Escamerlin is the het ship between Escanor and Merlin from the Seven Deadly Sins fandom.
Canon[]
Escanor met Merlin in Liones, after successfully defeating a rampaging monster that had plunged a city into chaos. Amidst the aftermath, several Holy Knights, including the revered Great Holy Knight Zaratras, scrambled to contain the situation, apprehensive of Escanor's perceived influence over the fearful populace residing in the surrounding towns and cities. All of the knights were severely injured. However, Merlin and Meliodas invited him to join their order of knights, though the two were forced to restrain him by order of the king to prevent his rampage.
After being taken prisoner to the castle of Liones, Escanor was accused by the Kingdom of terrorizing and destroying many towns and cities, severely injuring the Holy Knights who attempted to restrain him, and also of disrespecting the king. Labeled the Sin of Pride, Escanor was then sentenced to flogging, followed by a public hanging. However, Meliodas intervened at the last moment, stating that he would take care of him.
That night, Meliodas takes Escanor to his companions as the seventh and final member of the Seven Deadly Sins. There, he meets Merlin again, to his surprise, and thinks to himself that she looks almost exactly like Rosa (who had saved him in the past). He then shyly comments that this is the second time they have met. After everyone drinks the night away, Escanor decides to leave. While reciting a poem, he is surprised by Merlin who asks him why he is leaving. Escanor says that he cannot stay because his curse, which prevents him from controlling his actions during the day, will end up causing him to hurt them. Merlin then smiles kindly at Escanor and tells him that he really is an interesting man, as she had thought, causing him to feel embarrassed. As the sun rises, Meliodas appears asking if his power is as strong and invincible as they say, offering to test it with a blow. Escanor warns him that he cannot guarantee that he will not lose his life if he takes a step towards him. When Meliodas disobeys him, he receives a blow that causes him to collide with Ban, who was drinking. Believing that he has killed them both, Escanor flees to a nearby mountain and begins to destroy it, asking someone to stop him and end his life.
At night, Escanor secludes himself in the mountains, where he is found by Merlin. She tells him that she doubts that it will be effective to destroy a mountain every time he wants to calm his anger, but adds that it may be useful to cleanse the area. He tells her how his power is the reason he is alone, since everyone is afraid to see him use it, but that he also cannot help but be happy on the rare occasions when someone reaches out to him. Merlin then suggests that Escanor join them in discovering the mystery of his power and finding a way for him to use it. Escanor then smiles at her and mentions that it is not only her face that resembles Rosa's, but also the fact that she is the only person who continued to speak kindly to him after seeing his curse. Escanor also adds that Merlin's sad look is also similar to Rosa's. Escanor thanks her for the offer, but says that he has no right to join them after (according to him) having killed two of his comrades. However, Ban and Meliodas appear to the two, revealing themselves to be alive, which terrifies Escanor, believing them to be ghosts, and makes him grab Merlin's legs. When the other Sins arrive, Meliodas tells him that he is not the only monster there and that they are all trying to repent their sins by living life to the fullest. Meliodas again offers him to join them, but Escanor insists that his lack of control over his own power has only harmed those around him. He claims that no one knows what he had to go through because of his curse, to which Gowther uses his Invasion to read his memories and reveal his past. Escanor believes that the destruction of his kingdom was due to him and that Rosa must hold a grudge against him for it. Merlin then suggests that he see her in person to ask if this is really true. He then asks Merlin if she knows where Rosa is, to which she replies that she is a mage and that using the information Gowther extracted, pinpointing Rosa's location would be child's play for her. Escanor is excited about this at first, but then he says that he shouldn't see her because he doesn't think he could face her and doesn't even know what to say, as she has been through too many horrible things because of him and he says that she would probably be happier if he were dead. Then Meliodas asks Escanor to fight him at noon to decide (if Meliodas wins, Escanor will join the Seven Deadly Sins, but if Escanor wins he can leave and do whatever he wants).
The next day, during the fight between Escanor and Meliodas, Merlin watches them from afar and is impressed by how enormous Escanor's power is during Noon. However, although Escanor reaches the peak of his power at Noon, Meliodas manages to defeat him by releasing his Assault Mode. When Escanor finally says that he wants to live, he asks them to take him to Rosa and suddenly faints due to the fight. Merlin then says that this is quite convenient if he wants to see her. She then sends her soul to the Capital of the Dead and Escanor finds Rosa there.
Fanon[]
Escamerlin is one of the most popular ships among fans of The Seven Deadly Sins. Shippers often praise Escanor's protectiveness towards Merlin, Merlin's acceptance of Escanor and the mutual respect they have for each other, as well as appreciating the many moments the two have together.
There is also a theory within the Four Knights Of The Apocalypse (The Seven Deadly Sins sequel) fandom that one of the main characters, Gawain, is somehow the daughter of Escanor and Merlin, due to her strong similarities to both characters, such as her physical appearance and her magical abilities that closely mirror Escanor and Merlin's powers.
