Escoffier doesn’t appear during the Fontaine Archon Quests, so her first meeting with Lumine takes place only after the prophecy of Fontaine’s flood is proven false and the waters have receded thanks to Neuvillette’s intervention.

Act I - Treasured Above All[]

Shaped by Fame[]

It all begins when Monica, through Leone, sends candy to Lumine and Navia as an apology for them witnessing Savanna’s argument. Inside one of the candy packages, Lumine finds a strange note that reads, "Find... Escoffier."

Navia explains that Escoffier used to be the head chef at Hotel Debord and was the one who brought back the famous Gateau Debord, helping restore the restaurant's reputation. However, due to a security incident involving lumiline being found in the food, Escoffier stepped down and was sent to Fort Meropide. She didn’t stay there long, but by the time she came back, Savanna had already taken her place. Navia believes that with the note Monica gave them, she wants her and Lumine to find Escoffier so they can convince Savanna to listen to the staff’s concerns. As they search, they overhear Escoffier scolding a boy named Hilaire over poor food preparation.

Paimon tries to approach Escoffier, but she interrupts them and tells them to get in line. Even after explaining that they are not there to eat, Escoffier insists. Navia suggests waiting for her to calm down. After several hours, they finally get a chance to talk. Ever since Escoffier temporarily returned as the head chef, the restaurant has been overwhelmed with customers. During a conversation about the situation involving Filmin and Hilaire, Escoffier suddenly speaks up to Navia, making it clear that she had been listening all along. This is when Lumine finally meets Escoffier properly.

Lumine is surprised when Escoffier reveals that she was actually the one who encouraged Savanna to become the next head chef. After reading the note Monica gave them, Escoffier agrees to return to Hotel Debord to check things out.

Back at the hotel, Lumine and Navia try to assess how the current chefs are doing. Escoffier seems hesitant to reclaim her role. Savanna then shows up and scolds Monica. When she sees Escoffier, the two exchange angry words. Vaneigem arrives and suggests a culinary duel to settle things, just like how the founders Modeste and Savelli used to decide who had the final say.

Escoffier returns to Fleuve Cendre and tells Lumine about the Codex Debord, a personal diary by Modeste that later became known as a recipe book. She explains that the original is barely readable now and that most of the current recipes were recreated by her. To beat Savanna in the duel, Escoffier plans to make her signature dish, the Gateau Debord, but she needs two kitchen assistants. Lumine volunteers, so Escoffier tests her cooking skills. She starts with simple tasks like knife work, juicing ingredients, and adjusting seasoning. Lumine does well enough to impress her.

Escoffier then gives Lumine, Paimon, and Navia a challenge. Each of them has to cook something from the current Hotel Debord menu. Escoffier will act as the judge. Paimon tries cooking despite her inexperience, and Navia makes macarons based on Escoffier’s previous reviews. Both of them receive a harsh 6 out of 100. When Lumine finishes her dish, Escoffier gives it an 8. Lumine is confused at first, thinking it means 8 out of 100, but Escoffier clarifies that it is actually 8 out of 10 and close to 9. She says the dish is very well done and just needs a little more improvement.

Firmin also tries to help as a kitchen assistant but hesitates due to memories of being yelled at by Savanna. Monica shows up next and offers to help, revealing that she left Savanna’s team to join Escoffier. With Monica joining, Escoffier now has her full team, with Lumine as one of her chosen assistants. Navia then suggests holding a celebration hosted by Spina di Rosula. Together, Lumine and Escoffier begin preparing some of the finest dishes in Fontaine to serve the guests.

Roasted by Flames[]

The day of the competition finally arrives. Lumine teams up with Escoffier and Monica, all determined to create the best Gateau Debord they can. Meanwhile, Savanna prepares her own version. When the time comes, each team presents their cake to the food critics. Despite their efforts, Savanna ends up winning the duel, leaving Paimon disappointed. As a result, Escoffier is forced to give up the original Codex Debord.

Ice-Frosted Endgame[]

A few days later, a chef arrives with troubling news: a map has been discovered showing secret locations that Chef Modeste visited long ago. This leads Lumine and Escoffier to suspect something is seriously wrong with Monica and Savanna, so they decide to investigate.

Their search takes them to underwater ruins where Escoffier uncovers the real history of Chefs Modeste and Savelli. The shocking truth is revealed — the secret ingredient Modeste used in the original Gateau Debord was actually a hallucinogenic substance called lumiline. Over time, this substance damaged Modeste’s refined palate and drove him to take his own life, disproving rumors that Savelli was responsible. It turns out Monica used lumiline to manipulate the chefs, including Savanna, and even the customers. Her plan was to steal the Treasure of Remuria hidden in the underwater ruins and sell it to the Treasure Hoarders for profit.

Lumine and Escoffier rush to stop Monica, but they arrive too late. Monica has already incapacitated Savanna and is preparing to claim the legendary treasure. Suddenly, a Praetorian Golem awakens and attacks Monica fiercely, then turns on Lumine and Escoffier. Luckily, they manage to defeat the Golem, but Monica, gravely wounded, pulls out a gun and tries to kill Escoffier. Just in time, Savanna recovers and strikes Monica down with a knife, ending the threat for good. As the ruins start collapsing, Lumine and Escoffier manage to escape with Savanna safely.

Once out of danger, the chefs gather and celebrate their survival. Savanna apologizes for her earlier irritability, explaining it was caused by the effects of lumiline, which had also drained Firmin. Now fully recovered, Escoffier challenges Savanna to a rematch since the previous duel wasn’t fair.

Lumine and Escoffier join forces once more to prepare their best Gateau Debord. Their teamwork this time is flawless, and they finally win the duel fairly against Savanna’s team.

Afterwards, Lumine and Escoffier share a quiet moment. Escoffier mentions that meeting a certain chef from Liyue inspired her to keep improving, even if she feels the Hotel Debord no longer needs her. Navia arrives with news about the Treasure of Remuria but is disappointed to find that the jar containing it has already been broken, unaware that Monica was responsible.

Fanon[]

This ship is one of Lumine’s newest femslash pairings, with Escoffier being a medium-build female chef from Fontaine. Because it’s so fresh, there aren’t many fanarts or fanfics about them yet.

Since it’s such a new ship, it’s hard to tell how popular it is compared to others. One of its main rivals in the fandom is the love triangle involving Lumine, Escoffier, and Xiangling. Fans often compare Escoffier and Xiangling since both are talented chefs from different regions, Fontaine and Liyue respectively.

Something many fans have noticed is that Escoffier seems more gentle and warm around women than men, especially based on her character teaser. This has led some to speculate that she might be a lesbian or, more specifically, someone who just feels more comfortable and open around women than men.

The ship rivals Escofuri.

Trivia[]

  • Like Escoffier, Lumine also has excellent cooking skills.
  • In "About Slimes" voice line, Paimon asks Lumine which type of slime she likes the most. Lumine responds, “Cryo Slimes, I think. You feel cold just getting close to them — you'll need that sort of thing in summer.Aether’s response is the opposite, as he prefers Pyro slimes.[1] In contrast, Lumine prefers the cold, which aligns with Escoffier being a Cryo user. Fittingly, Escoffier’s miniature spoon and fork clip are made of ice.
