Cookie Run: Kingdom[]
We've Never Met[]
"We've Never Met" is a bond that can be unlocked if the player obtains both cookies. The story states that the two were elected to search for a "treasure of legends past" by their community (Most likely the Crème Republic). On the day of their departure, Madeleine greets Espresso for the first time and greets him amicably, but Espresso is rude and dismissive, offending him. It's implied Espresso holds disdain for Madeleine because of his strong contempt for Light Magic, but it's still unclear as to why he feels this way.
Couldn't Care Less... And Yet[]
"Couldn't Care Less... And Yet" is a quest that triggers once the player levels both Madeleine and Espresso up to level 10. Though the two of them seem to have become more well-acquainted since "We've Never Met," Espresso still dislikes Madeleine all the same.
The quest has the player complete multiple tasks while following a story line revolving around the cookies building a puppet theater for the kingdom. One cut-scene between tasks shows Espresso going off on his own to collect resources, but not returning. Alchemist Cookie realizes that it was too dangerous for him to go alone into the wild, and Madeleine volunteers to go out and save him.
Madeleine finds Espresso in the wilderness, and he happily exclaims that he's there to rescue him. Espresso retorts that he was the one saving Madeleine, because he was doing all the work. However, Espresso admits to Madeleine that he may be more useful than Espresso had initiallly believed, and proceeds to work with him to get past the enemies in the forest and make it back to the kingdom.
Upon their return, both of them insist that the other receive treatment for his wounds first. In the final cut-scene after the completion of the quest, it shows the cookies planning a party. Espresso is asked whether he will attend, and at first declines, but after Madeleine announces he will come, Espresso reluctantly agrees as well. Further in the cut-scene during the party, Espresso asks who brought sugarcoated donuts, the abruptly gives a somewhat indignant reaction after it is revealed Madeleine brought them.
GNOMED[]
In S1 EP.1, the two are seen getting up in the morning side by side. Madeleine Cookie is fully awake blow drying his hair while Espresso Cookie brushes his teeth half asleep. This doesn't confirm it, but it lead some fans to believe that they live in the same house... apparently with Almond Cookie and a sugar gnome.
In S2 EP. 11, Madeleine Cookie tells the gnome about how Espresso Cookie works so hard every night and suggests he gets some sleep. Espresso Cookie tells the gnome that he doesn't need it because he drinks coffee to keep him up all night. The two start arguing until the gnome puts sugarcoated donuts in their mouth. They both take the donuts and have a picnic with the gnome. This actually isn't the first time Madeleine showed concern for Espresso Cookie's sleep schedule.
Cookie Odyssey[]
Chapter 1 - The Council of Heroes[]
On day two of the first chapter, Espresso Cookie and Madeleine Cookie arrive on the same airship in order to participate in the council, seemingly summoned by Clotted Cream Cookie to support his stance on sharing the Soul Jam. There, it is revealed that the two knew each other before the "We've never met" story, as they have saved the Republic together in the, so called, "Light fragment incident".
On day five, Espresso Cookie goes to The Crow's Nest Inn for a cup of coffee, and takes Madeleine Cookie with him (under the explanation of writing a report), but asks Madeleine to be quiet, unless Espresso specifically asks for his input. When Pure Vanilla Cookie also arrives and asks the two about the Crème Republic, Madeleine praises the nation as a perfect place to live. Espresso however holds a more neutral stance on the Republic. Then reveals he would much rather prefer to move to the Vanilla Kingdom after retirement, making Madeleine Cookie suddenly change his mind, and wishing to move to the Vanilla Kingdom alongside him.
Before leaving the Vanilla Kingdom, Madeleine Cookie excitedly talks about going back to the Crème Republic, and asks Espresso Cookie if he feels the same way. He doesn't, and, once again, expresses clear dislike for the other, which Madeleine interprets as a joke. Upon noticing Espresso Cookie looks very anxious during the return to their homeland, Madeleine comforts him, saying their arrival will go just fine.
Chapter 2 - The Glory of the Crème Republic[]
Upon arriving, Espresso Cookie wants to immediately begin his research on the Soul Jams. The Nine Elders, however decide to prepare a special commendation to reward Espresso's and Madeleine's efforts, to which the first one refuses, offending the Elders. Madeleine quickly emends the other by saying they would both be honored to attend the event.
Madeleine Cookie invites Espresso to drink together during the celebration, Espresso refusing and leaving early to continue his studies. In order to continue them, however, he needed an ingredient which can only be found in the Lower Part of the Republic. During their trip, the group visits Espresso Cookie's laboratory, Madeleine mentioning, how he has been there before, and complaining about the lack of luxuries in it.
Chapter 3 - The Heroes of the Light[]
Mulled Juice Cookie and Sablé Cookie want to know more about the Magic Candies discovered by Espresso Cookie, and go to Madeleine, asking if he has seen the other. Sablé mentions, how the two always seem to be around eachother, so she assumed Madeleine Cookie would know Espresso's location. Madeleine reacts with disappointment upon learning they weren't interested in talking to him personally.
Espresso Cookie meanwhile, got fired from his job at researching the Soul Jam for not wanting the Magic Candies with espresso in them to be used on cookies other than himself, as he learnt it can be very harmful to do so. Knowing House Custard wants to monopolize the power of Soul Jam, Espresso broke into his former workplace, (the Institute of Thaumaturgy) and stole the Soul Jam, getting a serious bounty on his head in the process.
Madeleine Cookie, unknowing of what Espresso Cookie had done, stumbled onto a wanted poster of his in the Market, initially not believing it's really him on the poster. Madeleine, very confused about the situation, tried to look for Espresso, convinced he would never hurt anyone on purpose. Madeleine finds the other just as the Custard guards are about to catch him, and persuades them to leave before they manage to find Espresso Cookie.
Having to find a way to message the Ancient Heroes of what's going on currently, Espresso asks Madeleine to use his family's airship to deliver the message. Madeleine Cookie, while not wanting to risk his, and house Madeleine's reputation, agrees to use the airship after Espresso Cookie convinces him to do so.
After the fight with Dark Enchantress Cookie, everyone, including Espresso and Madeleine decides what they'd like to do next. Espresso Cookie officially decides upon moving to the Vanilla Kingdom, as he previously wanted to, Madeleine however changes his mind, and decides to go on a voyage around Earthbread instead of going with Espresso. Espresso Cookie then laughs on-screen for the first time ever (leaving Madeleine just as surprised as the audience), then saying Madeleine has finally found his own path. Even after Espresso moved, Strawberry Crepe, his new research partner, senses his sadness, and asks is he's sure he doesn't wanna return. He denies, mostly blaming the expensive rent.
Cookie Run Kingdom Holiday Stories[]
Madeleine Cookie and his aunties visit the Vanilla Kingdom for the holidays. His aunties join the rest of the villagers for the holiday party while Madeleine Cookie visits Espresso and Strawberry Crepe Cookie in the Wafflebot Laboratory. Madeleine says that he wanted to tell Espresso Cookie stories about his travels over coffee. Espresso Cookie agrees to listen, but only while they're brewing his cup.

- The CRK twitter account posted Madeleine and Espresso for Valentine's Day. They also posted that same image on Random Act of Kindness Day.
- The CRK Instagram account put submitted Espresseleine fanart on one large canvas for Madeleine Cookie's Cake Crusade.
- An official post on Gingerbrave's Twitter shows Espresso Cookie nervously sweating while reading #Cookieletter fan mail that translates to "Espresseleine get married" repeatedly ("마들에슾" is the ship name for Espresseleine in Korean). This was meant to poke fun at people in the thread telling them to make Espresseleine canon. Another #Cookieletter addressed to Madeleine Cookie asked if he is Espresso Cookie’s friend. The response letter said "All the cookies of this kingdom, including Espresso Cookie, are under my protection."
- Cookie Run's official Youtube channel posted a holiday special. One of the drawings shows Madeleine and his family with Espresso cookie in the vanilla kingdom. The caption says "I will go on singing forever, for Love and Peace!"
- Cookie run posted an image of Espresso Cookie and Madeleine Cookie without their accessories with naked and bald Gingerbrave in between them. What?

Fanon[]
Espresseleine is one of the most popular ships within the Cookie Run: Kingdom community because of how much canon content there is of the two both inside and outside of the game; they're often paired together in promotional art, package art, comics posted by official accounts, and even some merchandise. There are currently over 950 Espresseleine fanfictions on A03. Due to the ship fuel provided by both the bond and quest centered on these two characters, a recurring theme in fanworks are of one of the two--usually Espresso--being hurt and rescued by the other, or repairing their past relationship.
Based on their relationship, some are ignoring Madeleine's growth or saying how the pair [ship or not] haven’t changed since their first interaction, they are missing on their character growth. It’s important that they met, and their growth can only occur through each other. Espresso always knew where he was headed, he had to create his own path since he was born in the lower city. Madeleine was handed a good life and path, but with Espresso [ and the whole odyssey update] he’s able to realize it wasn’t 100% perfect and he needs to learn for himself. And in regards with Espresso, he’s able to be more trusting and rely on the goods of others. His idea that only he can solve his problems is proven wrong, and if it wasn’t for Madeleine's intervention [ and the other cookies] Espresso would’ve been captured by custards guards. Both characters were influenced by the circumstances of their surroundings, but one doesn’t think we would see a catalyst of growth without one or the other. Nobody is saying that they are constantly dependent on each other, and to think so is just a poor mischaracterization of each character but, the impact they’ve had on each other, both away and together, is essential for their growth. Many people constantly mention that Espresso doesn’t like Madeleine as if the only times he’s ever actually disliked him was when they had just met. However as time grew, Espresso was able to actually tolerate Madeleine and began to accept him for who he is. Espresso isn’t going to like Madeleine because Madeleine is the elite and Espresso had to fight to get a place.

This couple was described as "a handsome pair... minus the constant bickering." Putting forward the common usage of the adjective "handsome" for men, this description aligns very fittingly with the nature of Espresseleine, leaving room for speculation.
- At the end of the story, the aforementioned couple is also mentioned to get back together by Cocoa Cookie.
- Another food for thought about the couple being Espresseleine relates to how Cocoa Cookie is very close with Mint Choco Cookie, who is observed to fight alongside and be on good terms with Madeleine Cookie in the story "The Grand Cookie Games".
- In CRK CN story (exclusive collab) "Empresses in the Palace", both Espresso and Madeleine play as the Emperor (Madeleine) and Empress (Espresso). The choices made by the characters, particularly regarding music selection and dialogue options, create several possible "endings," rather than a single, linear conclusion regards into the story. In "Quarrel in the Palace of Great Benevolence Part 1", Espresso is rehearsing his final lines with the crew's consultant towards the end of the play alongside with Madeleine. The director instructs both indivisuals to act in the finale with playing out as the characters emotionally.

- The director calls them out, which means it’s noticeable. Madeleine’s physical closeness to Espresso isn’t necessary for the scene—it’s personal. That’s a classic ship trope: one character uses the scene as an excuse to close the emotional or physical gap. The praise for Espresso’s “despair and weariness” right after he says “My head hurts” blurs the line between acting and genuine emotion. Is Espresso overwhelmed by the scene—or by Madeleine? “One look and I’ve memorized them~” is more than bragging, it’s a flex meant to impress Espresso.
- In "Quarrel in the Palace of Great Benevolence Part 2", Madeleine Cookie dramatically pleads to be hated, prompting two wildly different responses from Espresso Cookie. In one ending, Espresso awkwardly deflects with a vague “Uh…,” leading to a comedic sequence involving snack-munching actors (Princess Cooke & Choco Werehound Brute), and quickly pivoted to business, thanking Madeleine for funding his experiment and ultimately taking the money funds from the play (basically Madeleine's money) and pays for equipment. He even held Madeleine’s hand and got a signature for the expenses, all while palace chaos unfolded around them. In the other, he delivers a confession, admitting he tried to hate Madeleine but simply couldn’t, revealing deep emotional conflict. The scene blends palace theatrics with humor and sincerity, showcasing the dynamics between the two.

- In the “Wicked” Collab update, “Side Story 3: You found a flyer for Madeleine Cookie Tutoring Lesson”, featuring both Espresso Cookie and Madeleine Cookie, Madeleine Cookie is seen promoting his “Popularity” tutoring to Espresso Cookie after his travels. However, Espresso Cookie declines despite Madeleine Cookie’s continuity of his tutorial unsurprisingly but considers the clout/popularity usefulness for research purposes.
