— “The Professors' New Adventure!”[src]

EternalHoneymoonShipping is the het ship between Kukui and Burnet from the Pokémon fandom.

Canon[]

Kukui and Burnet are two professors who work in a laboratory owned by Professor Kukui in the Alola region. In the games, Although they both live on different islands, Kukui bought a boat with which he usually travels to Akala to spend time with her. When he is with her he becomes a very affectionate person and somewhat sappy with Pimpinela. In the anime, after they decide to marry, they both live in the Professor Kukui's lab.

Kukui is the coolest and closest Pokémon professor. He is a very friendly and nice person who tries to be as close and familiar as possible with the new trainers in the region. His main field of research is Pokémon movements, his passion for researching Pokémon sometimes leads him to receive direct hits from them in order to learn from them, which is why he trains so that his body stays strong and can withstand these blows. Despite being a very nice and pleasant person, he also knows how to get serious when it is necessary, because he is also very responsible.

Professor Burnet, like Lusamine, has shown great love and responsibility regarding her profession. In addition to this, she has shown her liking for Pokémon. In the anime, she also is a huge fan of The Masked Royale.

Games[]

In the past, before meeting Burnet, Kukui made the Island Challenge when he was young with Molayne and Guzma. Back then, Kukui traveled through the region with the dream of being able to become one of the Alolan captains, Molayne and Guzma shared that same dream, but during the adventure, Guzma ended up realizing that he was not strong enough to complete the challenge and surrendered. Molayne ended up being one of the captains and Kukui had a chance to become a captain as well, but during his final battle against Kaudan, he realized that what he would really like to do is study and research the movements of the Pokémon. So he decided to train to become a Pokémon Professor, finally achieving his new dream.

Kukui has also traveled to the Kanto region in the past to improve his training, getting to take on each of the gyms and the champion, Lance. Which made him start thinking about the possibility of creating his new Pokémon league in the Alola region himself.

Two months before the events of the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon games, his wife, Professor Burnet, found an unconscious girl on the shore of the beach. This mysterious girl had run away from home and couldn't return for personal reasons, also, she was hiding a mysterious Pokémon that she had to protect. This girl is Lillie, whom Kukui finally decided to welcome into his laboratory, giving her a home to take refuge in, while she works in return as his assistant.

After the player completes the three island trials of Akala Island, Kukui invites the player to the Dimensional Research Lab in Heahea City, where she has been researching the strange phenomena occurring in the Alola region, the Ultra Wormhole and the Ultra Beasts. She appears in the same role in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon games.

Anime[]

Pokémon The Series: Sun and Moon[]

In the anime, Kukui makes his debut in "Alola to New Adventure!", while Burnet debuts on her own in "A Dream Encounter!", where Ash and Professor Kukui watch a TV show hosted by Anna announcing that Professor Burnet has received the Miss Alola of the Year award for her research. Ash asks about her and Professor Kukui states that she is a fellow researcher specializing in the study of Ultra Wormholes. In her interview she proves to be a fun and nice person, as well as having a great affection for Pokémon.

Later, in person, Professor Burnet informs Lusamine that there is an Ultra Aura in Melemele island and Lusamine decides to travel there with the Æther Foundation by helicopter and they land near Professor Kukui's house. Ash and Kukui are very surprised to see Burnet, although what really caught her attention was the RotomDex. Later when he sees Nebby, he states that it is most likely an Ultra Beast.

Their most major moment happens in "The Professors' New Adventure!". On the beach at sunset, Professor Kukui walks with Professor Burnet while they talk about the students, where Burnet wishes he had been there to listen to him, which Kukui also wishes, claiming that it was a scene to remember, Burnet blushes. While Ash and his Pokémon clean the dishes, Burnet comments that she and Kukui think in a similar way and it is at that most opportune moment when Kukui takes out a PokéBall that is actually to be a case with a wedding ring, with which he asks her to be his wife. At night the teachers tell Ash about their engagement and he reacts cheerfully.

At the Pokémon School, Ash tells everyone about the professors' engagement and the girls are the ones who get the most excited just thinking about everything that involves a wedding, such as: wedding dresses, wedding rings, throwing of the bouquet; but Ash tells them that there won't be a celebration, which makes them very depressed but Mallow proposes to make them a surprise wedding ceremony together as a gift. In that Professor Kukui arrives and everyone tries to act as normal as possible. At Mallow's Restaurant, she and her father will be in charge of the menu, while Samson Oak will be the one to officiate the wedding and the others have already invited Olivia, the Kahuna of the Akala island and on the wedding cake it will be Nina the waitress who makes it.

The next day in the morning Ash wakes up Professor Kukui to take him to see a beautiful and dazzling Burnet dressed in a beautiful wedding dress and get married at the surprise wedding that their students made for them, there the Pokémon witnesses were the Burnet's Munchlax and Kukui's Braviary. After the celebrations, the guys meet with the members of the Æther Foundation, where Faba is sorry for all the things he has caused, in addition to the fact that he was demoted to Wicke's subordinate, and Lusamine asks the students that they become the Ultra Guardians that capture the possible Ultra Beasts that may appear in the future, adding that the Ultra Wormholes are more likely to open in Alola and that their duty will be to capture them and return them to their world where they belong and thus protect Alola. All agree to such duty excited. Then when they throw the bride's bouquet they hear a loud roar that turned out to be Solgaleo trotting in the sky and the boys say goodbye to it.

In "Exhibition Unmasked!", when Kukui reveals that he is the real Masked Royale, his alter ego that he has been hiding for days, Professor Burnet faints quite a bit with emotion, since before she considered Kukui and the Masked Royale as two different people.

Finally in the season finale "Thank You, Alola! The Journey Continues!", Professor Burnet says goodbye to Lusamine, Lillie, Gladion and finally, between tears, says goodbye to Ash Ketchum, who depart from Alola on their journeys. It is later revealed that she got pregnant from Professor Kukui.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series[]

Kukui and Burnet reappear in the episode "That New Old Gang of Mine!", where they both welcome Ash and his new friend, Goh into their home; while Burnet holding her newborn son, Lei. Professor Burnet invites both guys to enter her house and after Ash's Pokémon greet their trainer, she informs the Alolan students that the guys from the Pokémon School are waiting for them to give them a welcome party.

Later, they both reappear again in JN112, Burnet is very attentive to how Ash remembers the old days when Kukui shone as the Masked Royale. So Ash and Kukui decide to become the Masked Royale, Ash being the Junior version. However, Kukui decides not to use said alter ego anymore, since he believes that Ash is the true star of the Battle Royale, even though he is not the New Masked Royale, due to Ash being the first champion of the Alola region. Ash leaving Alola is implied to have said goodbye to Kukui and Burnet, and then Ash returns to Kanto to train for the World Coronation Series' Masters Tournament battle, with his friends Goh and Iris supporting him.

Quotes[]

Burnet“Well, you just admit it. Give up, Kukui”
Kukui“No, not yet”

Fanon[]

Currently, EternalHoneymoonShipping is the most popular ship within the Sun and Moon fanbase. Although it is not one of the most popular ships in the entire anime, it still has some fans because it is already completely canon at some point in the episodes of the Sun and Moon series.

Aside the constant hints between them and the moments they shared in the series, the marriage proposal managed to keep fans attached to the ship and hopeful for its future. However, it doesn't have as many fans as AmourShipping due to Kukui and Burnet debuting in a season that was considered "bad" by fans, especially because of the drastic change in drawing style.

However, along with MeanBeanShipping (Mohn/Lusamine), it is one of only two notable canon ships in the Sun and Moon series. Other canon ships just aren't usually popular, like the parents of every Alolan student.

When it comes to the Pokémon canon ships, this pairing is usually ranked as top tier 1st in Japan, because it usually generates conversations about Kukui and Burnet, compared to the other Pokémon canon ships that are almost not talked about, such as AccordShipping (Tonio/Alice), DivergentShipping (Joshua/Erica), BickerShipping (Oscar/Andi), Brock'sHormonesShipping (Flint/Lola), BalanceShipping (Norman/Caroline), etc. In the West its popularity is not higher than in Japan, because of Ash's ships. With EternalHoneymoonShipping being the canon ship, it's one of most liked canon ships and has no potential rival ships, but also not as popular as Ash's ships.

Kukui and Burnet also are considered "Ash's best adoptive parents", as both Kukui and Burnet acted like parent figures to him, paying more attention to him than his real mother, Delia Ketchum, did. Even in some fanfictions, Kukui and Burnet are written together with the fan-favorite Ash ship, depicting EternalHoneymoonShipping as the parent figure to Ash and parent-in-law figure to the girl shipped with Ash, mostly AmourShipping.

It is usually also preferred by fans who tend to go only for completely canon ships and also by those who have lost all faith in Ash's ships.
