Euryphone is the friendship between Eurydice and Persephone from the Hadestown fandom.

Canon[]

Within the myths, no version features much interaction between Persephone and Eurydice. The main one involves Orpheus serenading Persephone alongside Hades about how much he misses Eurydice, some versions have Persephone begging her husband to let Eurydice go home with Orpheus.

Hadestown[]

Though Eurydice and Persephone don't get to interact during Act I, Persephone's stay at Hades causes winter in the mortal world, which affects the poor Eurydice as she couldn't afford food and shelter. During his proposal to Eurydice, Orpheus mentions that he will make spring come back, with Eurydice admitting that spring was so long ago that she could barely remember it. When Orpheus sings his song, he proves to Eurydice that it can bring spring back by having flowers grow all around them, Eurydice is so impressed that she falls in love with him and begs for him to finish the song. When Orpheus thinks of the first verse of his song, Eurydice listens wordlessly to him recounting the tale of how Hades met Persephone after Hermes asks for him to recall how it went. Spring indeed comes back right at that moment, as Persephone had just arrived back on Olympus and brought joy and hope back to the people living on Earth, Eurydice in particular beams happily when she sees her. But when Hades arrives early to take Persephone back with him, Eurydice gets curious about how life is like back at Hadestown. But as Eurydice holds out hope for Orpheus to finish his song, Hades is lectured by Persephone for losing the things that caused her to fall in love with him in the first place. As a result, Hades sees Eurydice and tempts her with living in Hadestown giving her the food and warmth Orpheus couldn't provide for her immediately, specifically choosing her to make Persephone jealous. As a result, Eurydice makes the difficult decision to venture to Hadestown via train like Persephone did, essentially killing her.

Act II starts with Persephone trying to lift the spirits of the workers just as Eurydice arrives in Hadestown. Eurydice had just started to forget her name, her life and the way to return to it as Orpheus arrives to save her. But when Hades confronts him over this, Persephone tries to speak up in their defense. As Hades reveals that Eurydice had signed her life away to him and physically can't go back, Orpheus openly laments this, causing Persephone to sympathize with the young couple when she overhears this. When Persephone confronts Hades over his cruelty, she tells him that Orpheus loves "that girl". She outright tells him that Orpheus' love for Eurydice is the same as the love she and Hades once had. When Hades rudely dismisses that Eurydice means nothing to him, Persephone tells him that she means everything for Orpheus. When Hades still refuses, Persephone outright tells him to let Eurydice go. But when Hades illustrates that letting Eurydice go is the first in a series of larger problems for Hadestown, Persephone reminds him that Orpheus doesn't care about Hades' affairs, he only wants the girl he loves back. But when Hades reluctantly lets Orpheus finish the song, Orpheus sings about how Hades' love for Persephone used to be like his love for Eurydice, but acknowledging that it was corrupted by greed finally caused the stony heart of Hades to melt. Hades agrees to let Eurydice go home with Orpheus, but under the condition that Orpheus shall merely lead the way for her, looking back will damn to live in Hadestown forever. When Orpheus accepts the deal, Persephone is openly rooting for the two when Hades reveals that there's no guarantee that Orpheus will succeed in saving her. But when Eurydice inevitably falls back as Orpheus looks at her in concern, she is greeted by Persephone lifting her spirits by telling her that they shall drink a toast on Orpheus, the flower that managed to bloom in the dead of the winter.

Given that few adaptation put much focus on Eurydice interacting with Persephone, the Hadestown fandom enjoys exploring how they would interact at different points in the story. Though some people enjoy the idea of shipping them romantically, it isn't very popular as doing so would require breaking up two very popular ships.
