ExpensivePainting is the het ship between Simon Smoke and CraftyCorn from the Poppy Playtime fandom.

Canon

CraftyCorn and Simon Smoke are part of the game's group of the Smiling Critters and Nightmare Critters respective toy lines. While each character in the toy lines are based on real animals, the two are notably the only ones out of the Critters to be a mythological animal. CraftyCorn, being a unicorn, and Simon, being a dragon, stand out among the other Critters in this way. Though the relationship between the two groups is unclear in the game, information about them as individuals is available through their character information photos and snippets of the Smiling Critters cartoon. Simon Smoke is egotistical and relies on maintaining his popularity to feel satisfied, while CraftyCorn is shy and expresses herself through her passion for art. With the Nightmare Critters serving as darker versions of the Smiling Critters, Simon Smoke and CraftyCorn have a fair share of opposing traits.

Though not in the game itself, the two alongside the other Critters have been featured in seasonal artwork by Mob Entertainment. A 2024 Halloween post shows CraftyCorn and Simon Smoke hanging out while trick-or-treating with Bobby BearHug and KickinChicken. Other works show them with the other Critters partaking in other festivities such as a Thanksgiving feast and sleeping during Christmas night.

ExpensivePainting is fairly popular as a ship within the two characters' ships. With the introduction of the Nightmare Critters, fans of the Smiling Critters were quick to make the connection of the two being the only mythological animals of the groups. As the ship grew, fan art and AUs often tied in the fantasy elements between them as dragons and unicorns. Examples often show Simon in need of a princess and offering this to CraftyCorn, or alternatively CraftyCorn having to rescue Simon in a castle. Outside of these elements, other ship art of them combines elements of the two often in a more positive light. Examples of these include CraftyCorn getting Simon to express himself with art or Simon seeing CraftyCorn's worth similarly to how he would see himself. The ship has gained a following on various platforms including video edits on TikTok and art on Tumblr and Twitter. Other fan works may involve them in a love triangle among their rival ships, such as Simon with Rabie Baby and CraftyCorn with DogDay or KickinChicken.

On AO3, as of May 29, 2025, the ship has 10 works under its romantic tag. It is the most written ship for Simon on the site, though it is only the 7th most for CraftyCorn. Though, it is the most for CraftyCorn with someone outside of the Smiling Critters.
