Fairy Tail is a manga series written by Hiro Mashima and has been adapted into an anime, multiple movies and games.
Plot[]
The series follows the adventures of the Fairy Tail guild and its members, Natsu Dragneel and Lucy Heartfilia, followed by supporting protagonists Gray Fullbuster, Erza Scarlet and later, Wendy Marvell, as well as exceeds Happy and Carla.
Natsu and the others deal with the world's problems using their magical powers as a means of earning money. Throughout the series, Natsu comes to blow with numerous antagonists who often try and use magic for their own personal gain. The show concluded with the final showdown against long time antagonists, Zeref Dragneel and Acnologia. The story since continues in Fairy Tail: 100 Year Quest where Team Natsu travels to the continent, Guiltina, to face up against the Five Dragon Gods.

Fanon[]
Fairy Tail is very well known for its numerous ships, despite the fact that the series does not truly explore romance. However, relative to other shonen series, Fairy Tail is very indulging of relationship between characters, having produced a number of major pairings that are widely seen by the fandom as the main ships of the series, these include NaLu, Gruvia, Jerza, GaLe and ElfGreen. Alternative ships are also popular, such as NaLi, GrayLu and LoLu.
Opinion of shipping within the Fairy Tail community seems to be divided, with some fans feeling like it takes away from the story, whilst others believe it is a natural result of how the story is told, since Fairy Tail has heavy emphasis on the "Power of Friendship" trope.
Shipping wars are commonplace in the Fairy Tail fandom, with the biggest disagreement taking place between NaLu fans and NaLi fans. This hostility has even reached Hiro Mashima, the author of Fairy Tail, who admitted that his decision not to pair Natsu with either Lucy or Lisanna was partly fuelled by the backlash he would receive from either fans.
