Bromance is beautiful... ✨
—Brawl Stars official twitter account

Fangster is the slash ship between Fang and Buster from the Brawl Stars fandom.

Canon[]

These two form the "Cinema Trio" alongside Maisie. The three of them are established as close friends, both lovers of movies, that work at the turbo theater within Starr Park. Fang sells popcorn or general food, Buster projects the movies, and Maisie is the safety coordinator who constantly controls the chaos that the boys create, products of their playful actions. Their entire theme is about movie culture, being this topic common in the boys' voicelines, who tend to reference classic lines or actors, while Maisie's main topic is fire hazards and rescue.

Fang was added as a playable character in January 2022, meanwhile Buster was added on November 2022. Before Maisie's arrival in April 2023, the boys were meant to belong in Lola's Brawlywood trio. This idea was discarded, however, the three of them remain as friends. Fang's playstyle is Assassin, while Buster's a Tank and Maisie's a Marksman.

The Cinema Trio

On the "TIME TO EXPLAIN" podcast,[1] lead character designer, Fernanda Oliver, points out that both characters are designed like a fun-like duel you'd see on a movie. On the same video, Dani, one of the social media managers, explains that "People don't understand the meaning of bromance, like very good friends, almost like a relationship", adding later on that "they're always together, like having pizza night or something".

In the October 2022 Brawl Talk,[2] the devs directly confirm that Buster is Fang's best buddy. Additionally, they're some of the brawlers seen with the largest amount of official art, posted to the social media accounts, usually receiving more interactions from the community in comparison to others.

They have a total of 4 appearances in the game's promotional animations, where brawler dynamics tend to shine the most. In this case, they're depicted as a playful duo that often gets in mischief, leading to conflict between other characters nearby, this is mostly seen in the April 2023 Brawl Talk introduction,[3] where they cause disorder and a fire on the cinema, this falls under control thanks to Maisie's help, but she seems bothered at the situation, that either way is solved in a happy matter. In November's 2024 seasonal animation,[4] the duo obtains a strange book at the Oddities Shop, being this the same item that unleashes a curse when Fang trips over a rock, affecting numerous brawlers nearby, turning them into angels and demons, while the boys hug, distressed at the situation that eventually curses them too, as seen in the season's ending official art.[5]

Fanon[]

Fang has been one of the most popular characters since his introduction and while Buster struggled to get popularity since his release, in recent months there's been a bigger wave of fans interested on him, as he's a viable character in the game´s competitive setting. The ship was quickly popularized since Buster's first appearance pointed out closeness to Fang, not seen with other characters, creating a massive focus on the creation of fanart, comics, edits and memes in social media. While the duo itself has an immense amount of canon and fanon media, their "friendship or relationship?" status is often a topic of debate, as ship wars are extremely common in huge fanbases, leading to some fans outright hating the idea of these two in a romantic relationship, which tends to give a bad reputation to this duo as a couple, however, its popularity remains high between old and new players.

Either way, fan artists tend to depict them as an overly affectionate couple, mostly focused on spending quality time together playing videogames or watching movies. The most common backstory accepted by fans showcases the previously mentioned bromance trope turning into a proper romantic relationship, often being Buster the one who falls in love first. Additionally, Fang attempts to show a tough attitude that ultimately falls apart at Buster's genuine and recurrent affection, mostly showcased by hugs and their common interests. A common running-joke between the community is the showcase of Maisie's reaction to this relationship, either portraying shock or a mundane reaction, as she already has a hunch about romantic feelings between her friends.

The easiest way to find content of the couple is through TikTok, where #Fangster redirects to 2600+ posts, while #FangXBuster redirects to 1800+ posts. Most of the time the relationship is portrayed in a comical way, through absurd memes and edits, joking about the friendship being so close, everyone accepts it as a romantic situation that tends to embarrass both Fang and Buster, who most of the time correspond to these feelings at the end of the day. Another place to visit is Twitter, where the same hashtags tend to get constant activity each week.

It is also common to see Gus, one of the few kid brawlers, being adopted by Buster in fan works, as he's featured caring for and rescuing the former in a dangerous ghost station in the "Train to Nowhere" animation. Because of this, Fang, being depicted as Buster's boyfriend, takes care of the child as well, immediately matching Gus' mischievous and curious personality.
