Fanpaper is the slash ship between Fan and Paper from the Inanimate Insanity fandom.
Canon[]
Fan's Fantastic Features[]
For the fourth episode of Fan's show, he is set to interview Paper. Similar to the acronym of his show, he introduces Paper as a "Fellow Fiber Friend" to a cheerful audience. Paper expresses excitement to be included and right as he talks about monitoring the hotel, Pepper suddenly cuts the two off and dismisses Paper from the show. To Fan's confusion, Salt and Pepper take on the role of Standards and Practices and give off suggestions to improve the show. Later on, Fan is eventually tricked by the two into signing away the show to them, forcing him to try and continue his series in secret. Introducing his new series, he prepares to have a calm chat with Paper, who is still annoyed about being cut off from the show earlier. However, right as Fan is about to ask him something, Pepper cuts the two off once again to reveal that they never actually wanted the rights to the show and only wanted more dramatic tension for it. In the credits, Fan apologizes to Paper for not being able to do the interview. He promises that he'll have Paper on in the future, adding that OJ is threatening to kick him out of the room if he doesn't.
Later on during the Inanimate Insanity Direct, Fan and Paper are eventually able to have their interview. Paper amuses Fan by sharing his fear of dolphins, expressing certainty that he's able to get over it. Test Tube then tells Fan that they've received Spoiled Lemon tickets that need to be claimed immediately. Although Fan is amazed by the offer, he wants to prioritize the importance of being in the moment with Paper. Paper assures him that he's allowed to go if he wants, which Fan gladly accepts and thanks Paper for it. Before quickly leaving, Fan tells Paper that he can entertain the audience as he wishes while he is gone. Paper then walks up to the table and drops Fan's lucky mug, making an evil grin until a dolphin suddenly appears and makes him scream.
Inanimate Insanity IV[]
As Fan announces the chance to join a new season of Inanimate Insanity, Paper is willing to join since places of forced isolation like Idiotic Island are out of the picture. Afterwards, Fan explains to the contestants what their first challenge is: meeting with everyone one-on-one and trying to guess each other's self-chosen word. Afterwards as Fan and Test Tube go through which word everyone chose, Tapey figures that Paper must've chosen "sweet" out of the listed words, which Fan confirms. When the final scores are revealed, Paper and Pepper both notice they're within the bottom third and ask Fan how they could've done this bad despite being around since the first season. Fan then asks Paper and Pepper how much time they've spent with people other than OJ and Salt respectively, causing Paper to blush as the two try to think. Fan then announces that the bottom six placers will be put in an elimination ceremony, leaving Paper up for elimination alongside Pepper, Trophy, Teddy Bear, Cammy, and Jack. Once the six make it to the area, Fan announces the new feature that the season's eliminations will have: a wheel that determines whether they get immunity or not. Fan calls Paper up first to make his vote out of the six. Once the votes are in, Paper then decides that he'll spin the wheel, wanting to avoid being a first boot like he was in the first season. Seeing a yellow and red slice on the wheel, Paper asks Fan about this where he learns that the yellow slice has no impact and the red slice adds another vote towards elimination. Although confused, Paper spins the wheel and lands on the yellow slice. Despite not receiving immunity nor a penalty, Fan declares that his vote will no longer be counted since he gave it up for the chance to spin. During the vote read, Paper becomes nervous when Fan announces that he received a vote, although it is revealed afterwards that Jack got the most and is the first one eliminated.
Fanon[]
Fanpaper has gained a following throughout various platforms for the show's shipping fandom. Although the two had not interacted in the main series until the fourth season, the two having interacted in Fan's Fantastic Features allowed fans to get a sense of what their dynamic is like. This also mainly inspired the ship to gain attention, especially within slash shippers having a taste for rarepairs. Ship art of the two mainly on sites such as Twitter and Tumblr explore ideas that put the two in more romantic situations, alongside fanfics on AO3 backing up these scenarios. The ship is mainly rivaled by Fantube and canon ship PayJay.
On AO3, as of September 14, 2025, the ship has 9 works in its romantic tag and 7 under its platonic tag. It is the second most written ship for Paper on the site.
