Fanphone is the slash ship between Fan and MePhone4 from the Inanimate Insanity fandom.
Canon[]
Inanimate Insanity[]
When MePhone tells the contestants that the fans will start voting in eliminations instead of the contestants, Fan excitedly asks if he gets to vote. MePhone corrects him and refers to the viewers voting instead.
Inanimate Insanity II[]
As MePhone tries to start the first challenge of the season, Fan tells MePhone that he wouldn't interrupt him and calls himself MePhone's biggest fan.
Fan is announced the third one safe by MePhone during The Bright Lights' first elimination. Later after the challenge, Fan returns from space with an egg thinking it was Marshmallow. MePhone asks Fan where he got it from only to change his mind, claiming to be tired from the day's drama.
After MePhone is asked about reviving Bow, Fan pops up by him and agrees that Bow was a fan favorite. He tells MePhone that the season will be worse without her, making MePhone ask how long he's been standing there. Fan dodges the question and points out how MePhone can bring the contestants back to live, asking why he can't do the same for Bow. MePhone sarcastically calls Fan special for figuring it out and assures him that he won't happen. As Fan thinks that he's refusing to do so just cause he hates her, MePhone demonstrates by opening up MeLife and showing that Bow isn't able to be brought back when pressing her icon. MePhone explains to him and Marshmallow that he was never able to bring Bow back since she died while he was gone and therefore never got the notification to recover her. A shocked Fan calls it an upsetting twist and walks away while eating popcorn.
In the haunted house, Fan and Test Tube are met with the ghost of Bow. When she lifts up a chair and breaks it, Fan convinces himself that MePhone made it so the chair was alive and killed itself.
Test Tube pours rice on a powered down MePhone per Fan's advice, with the two becoming shocked when this doesn't work. At Meeple headquarters when Cobs asks Fan about his egg, he offers Fan to give him the new battery that MePhone needs in exchange for the egg. Fan denies the offer and his team later makes it back down with a new MePhone battery nonetheless.
After MePhone announces to the contestants that the competition will start to become more lowkey, Fan takes it that MePhone is saying it is filler. MePhone denies it and says he's simply just slowing down the pace. Shortly afterwards, Fan talks to Knife about the peculiarity of MePhone leaving the contestants behind.
After the maze challenge, Fan gets excited when MePhone gathers The Bright Lights to the elimination area. Though, he is saddened when MePhone realizes he forgot there was no team to lose last episode. Shortly when MePhone announces that Marshmallow will be disqualified and eliminated if not present by next challenge, Fan freaks out by the fact that a disqualification is now possible in the show.
When Toilet and MePad take over hosting for the mining challenge, Fan yells at them for breaking the show's pattern and not telling the contestants were MePhone is. Later after MePhone wakes up having his memories restored, MePad tells him that Fan has lost the challenge and is the next one eliminated. While in an argument with Test Tube about who should keep the egg, Fan sees MePhone and is briefly relieved that he will set things in order. However, MePhone spawns the elimination portal and nonchalantly calls Fan ready to go. As Fan accepts that Test Tube will have to look over the egg, he shares his last thoughts about it before MePhone pushes Fan into the portal.
Inanimate Insanity Invitational[]
After Fan crash lands on an island with other select contestants, MePhone arrives and Fan is unfazed having guessed that he was behind this. As MePhone announces a new third season with them as the cast, Fan points out that he isn't finished with the second one. MePhone responds with multitasking being a strong suit of his.
In the finale, MePhone calls out Fan, OJ, and Paintbrush for leaving Indefinite Island early. He places the three in a jail cell by the jury as MePhone tells the three that they cannot talk during the vote. Fan rants that he made his way all the way back to Hotel OJ and is suddenly brought back only to be locked in a cell, guessing the exact phrase MePhone will tell him to be quiet with.
Behind the Scenes[]
Mephoj and Fanphone were both mentioned in a post by director Justin Chapman when asked about the fate of MePhone ships during the finale's twist. Chapman shared that he would leave it up to the fandom to decide who gets shipped with what, figuring that there would be some complications with ships involving MePhone and his contestants as a result of the reveal of MePhone being an unknowing creator.[1]
Fanon[]
Fanphone is fairly rare overall in the Inanimate Insanity fandom. The ship is mainly based off of Fan being obsessed with Inanimate Insanity as a competition, which MePhone hosts. Shippers find it that Fan would know MePhone well the most out of the contestants, pointing out how the two have both used the show as a coping mechanism while having trouble opening up to those around them. During the reveal in the finale, the ship was also seen in a new light of MePhone having made Fan to appreciate the show, with many taking the ship as MePhone self-shipping with an OC he created. The pairing has a following on platforms such as video edits on TikTok and posts on Tumblr, being rivaled by ships such as Fantube and Mephoj.
On AO3, as of February 10, 2025, the ship has 13 works in its romantic tag and 10 in its platonic tag.
