- —Marinette to Félix in "Representation".
Felinette is the het ship between Félix Fathom and Marinette Dupain-Cheng from the Miraculous Ladybug fandom.
Canon[]
Félix and Marinette originate from the series Miraculous Ladybug, they can also be recognized from the beggining stages of the project/series such as concept art and concept animations, as they were the original canon endgame of the series. In addition, both Félix and Marinette are the only characters from Miraculous Ladybug who are both in the anime version and the official series, their characters remain somewhat consistent between the two works, but can vary in their own individual ways.
Season 3[]
In the series, they first meet each other in Season 3, episode 23, when Félix is presented in the series as Adrien's cousin from London. Félix knows about Marinette for the first time when he is going through Adrien's phone and finds a video of Marinette's love confession to him. He laughs it off and calls her pathetic, as he thinks she is like Adrien's others friends, which he dislikes.
Later in the episode, Félix gets into trouble while pretending to be Adrien, causing Juleka, Rose and Alya to be akumatized and try to fight him, Ladybug appears and takes Félix away, thinking he's Adrien. When Ladybug makes sure he is safe, Félix, who is purposely trying to damage Adrien's reputation and image tries to lead her into a kiss, Ladybug, even though doesnt know he is not Adrien refuses the kiss and punches him.
That's when Chat Noir appears and reveals to Ladybug that he, in fact, is Félix pretending to be Adrien, Chat Noir tries to scold him, but Ladybug stops him as Lady Wifi, Reflekta and Princess Fragance appear and fight with the heroes.
At some point of the fight Félix manages to take away the akumatized object, Ladybug asks him to break it so they can end the problem, but Félix refuses trying to contact and get Hawk Moth on his side. Ladybug then manages to solve the problem on her own, and even saves Félix when he is falling from the roof.
Back on Adrien's house, Félix ask Adrien for forgiveness, steals Gabriel's ring without him noticing it and comes back to London with his mother.
Season 4[]
In episode 9 of Season 4, Félix gets to prove true his theory of Gabriel being Hawk Moth which will be important for future events. In the season 4 finale Risk-Strikeback (Episode 24 and 25) Hawk Moth creates an akuma that causes the people of Paris to not be afraid of risks and its consequences, and he also makes sure that nor Ladybug or Chat Noir are aware that this akuma exists. Under the influence of this akuma's power, Marinette is more than willing to confess her feelings to Adrien and free him from his father.
Félix comes backs to France after the akuma infectes the people of Paris, therefore he is not affected by it, after seeing his cousin Adrien being sad on TV because of Gabriel's plan of sending him away agaisnt his own will with Lila, he proposes to save him and stand up to his father in a plan consisting of Félix pretending to be Adrien, and Adrien as Félix. Adrien under the influence of Risk accepts. Félix with his own plan and ulterior motives ends up in Hawk Moth's secret lair, discovers Emilie's dead body, steals both the butterfly and peacock miraculouses, and the tablet which has the grimoire of the miraculous.
When Félix disguised as Adrien is about to get on the train and leave paris, Ladybug appears in the train station and sort of confesses her love for him for a second time and asks him to stay in Paris. Félix, acting as Adrien says he can't do it as he lacks courage and says he's not a superhero like her, and the end he says goodbye to Ladybug, getting finally on the train.
Ladybug gets sad at first, but after a while and under the influence of Risk decides to fuse the horse and ladybug miraculous to teleport and make sure to save Adrien from his father, but then sees Hawk Moths sentimonsters and decides to take care of the issue first as only Ladybug. Meanwhile in the train, Félix goes to the bathroom to see the grimoire and use the peacock miraculous, he discovers that the miraculouses he stole from Hawk Moths lair are fake, he gets angry as we discover Félix purpose all this time was to get the Peacock miraculous, Ladybug gathers more heroes seeing that her and Chat Noir are not in conditions to defeat the sentimonsters by themselves, then Ladybug thanks to Rena Rouge realizes that there is an akuma causing people to commit risks without care. As everyone on the team is affected by this and seeing that she cant find the akumatized object, Ladybug uses her lucky charm and and undestands that she needs someone who hasnt been affected by the akuma to carry the plan and help her solve the problem, and thinks that Adrien (actually Félix) isnt a victim of "Risk" because he left on the train a while ago, after some time of deliberating whetever this is a good idea or not, she ends up doing it, fusing the horse, bunny and ladybug miraculous to travel to the train where Adrien (Félix) is.
When Félix is going out of the train's bathroom, Ladybug is coming out from another door of the train, they find and surprise each other in the hall.Félix, confused, asks her who she is, Ladybug introduces herself as Pegabug and makes sure to check that Adrien (Félix) is not infected by Risk, after this she decides to give him a Miraculous, Félix notices that Ladybug has direct access to the miraculous in the box with her yoyo.When Ladybug gives him the miraculous of the dog, Félix seems unsure of accepting it, but Ladybug encourages him of doing it, at the end Félix accepts and sees how a real miraculous works like, using it to transform. Ladybug explains the powers of his new miraculous, and tells him the plan and his role in it. They both go into the time burrow, and travel to the past so Félix can use the power of the dog miraculous to take the akumatized object, then travel to the future together, and see the city of Paris destroyed by the sentimonsters, Félix retrieves the akumatized object so Ladybug can break it and use her power to remove the damages caused by risk.
When they end the mission, Ladybug holds his hands and congratulates him on doing the job perfect in his first attempt, Chat Noir sees this and gets jealous.She continues telling him that he is the best while calling him Adrien by mistake, as he doesnt have a superhero name yet. Félix smiles and introduces himself as Flairmidable, Ladybug smiles back and tells him that the name suits him, after that they bump fists together together celebrating the success of their plan. Both Flairmidable and Ladybug go together to the sewers to destransform and feed their kwamis, separated by a wall. Marinette thanks "Adrien" once again and promises to bring him back to the train, but Félix refuses saying he doesnt want to come back because he wants to fight by her side, Marinette asks him about his trip, questioning if "Adrien" will be able to stand up to his father, Félix says that Ladybug gave him the courage he needed and that from now on, nothing will stop him.
Marinette smiles, taking the words in a romantic way, but we as an audience know that this is for Félix ulterior motives and plans. When Ladybug and Flairmidable come back with the rest of the superhero team, Ladybug proudly introduces Flairmidable to the team, very excited to have both Chat Noir and Flairmidable by her side, even making jokes about cat and dogs while Chat noir seems pissed off, both Ladybug and Flairmidable seem very happy and smiley. Ladybug states again how content she is to have him on her team, meanwhile Flairmidable uses his power to take Ladybugs yoyo without anyone else noticing.
Ladybug uses her lucky charm to start the plan and defeat the sentimonsters, asking for help and using the abilities of the rest of her team mates to get rid of them, when Ladybug explains her plan Flairmidable gets worried about where they are going to send the sentimonsters, when they all go and are ready to get rid of them, Flairmidable doesnt go with them, watching from afar how the sentimonsters dissapear, seeming both sad and upset.
When Ladybug tries to reunite with Adrien to take back his miraculous, she doesnt find him in the skewers, as Flairmidable has gone to the Agreste mansion to find Gabriel. Ladybug also goes there hoping to find Adrien in his room, when she arrives she asks him to give her the miraculous back, but the real Adrien seems confused, telling her she didnt give him anything, she reminds him that she indeed gave him the dog miraculous on the train, and Adrien reveals to her that she actually gave it to Félix. Félix, as Flairmidable is negotiating with Gabriel in his office, and asks for the real Peacock miraculous offering to give back all the miraculous inside Ladybugs yoyo in exchange of them. Gabriel accepts after Félix convinces him, they make the deal, and so Félix retreats Ladybugs yoyo and gives it to Gabriel.
Ladybug after seeing how she lost her yoyo because of Flairmidable's power falls in a panic attack, Adrien tries to calm her and asks her to trust him, Ladybug tries to use the only option she knows to get back the yoyo, and so she destransforms in the bathroom hoping that when she transforms back the yoyo comes back to her. But its too late, as Gabriel has already taken them all, after getting the peacock miraculous and fulfilling his part of the bargain, Félix goes from the Agreste mansion.
At the end of the episode, Ladybug cries on a rooftop, regretting her choices and where these have lead her, regretting to trust Félix even though she didnt know it was him, on the other hand, Félix seems calm, because he finally has the peacock miraculous on his hands. Ladybug gets comforted by Chat noir, and she finds hope in the idea of getting back all the miraculous again in the future.
Season 5[]
In the first episode of season 5 we see Félix at his house in London with the miraculous of the peacock, and is clear that he is not willing to give it away, as he appreciates Duusu given that Félix is a sentimonster himself.
In episode 18, season 5, Marinette and Adrien seem to be an official couple. But Marinette isnt so sure of their relationship as she thinks Adrien hides something because of his behaviour around her, and this only gets more to her head when Adrien goes to another place in the middle of their date, and says he cannot tell her where is he going or why. When she meets Alya and Nino that same day she tells them her doubts, they both laugh about it because she doesnt know why Adrien is busy when she used to know everything, Marinette tells them that she has stopped doing those kind of things because she realized that they werent any good for her, Alya uses alliance to tell her that Adrien is attending an event organized by his father called the "Diamond dance", and they say that probably Adrien didnt tell her because she cannot go with him as the dance is for rich families and their sons/daughters only.
Marinette meets with Zoe, and they talk about the dance because that Zoe is on the guest list, Marinette understands why Adrien didnt tell her, but she cant help to pity him because he went probably because Gabriel ordered him. Zoe proposes her to go to the dance with her invitation and using her name so she can go and support him and telling her she doesnt mind as she knows it was because or her father that he didnt tell her.
Once inside the event, we see that Adrien and Kagami are going to be king and queen of the dance together and that this is a plan of both Gabriel and Kagamis mom. Thats when Amelie comes into the event, reclaming Gabriel for the dissapearance of his son, Félix. (Later is revealed that Félix disguised himself as Adrien to get into the diamond dance, and that Adrien during this events is actually Félix pretending to be him) Everyone gets inside the ballroom to the dance, Marinette wears a white dress with a white mask as this is the dress code for the dance. Chloe doesnt recognize her and tries to talk to her, Marinette notices that indeed the whole party is full of rich kids, and tries to search for Adrien, she finds him sitting with Kagami on what seems to be the second floor.
Someone in the dance announces that the King and Queen are about to open the ball. Félix, disguised as Adrien tells Kagami to run away of the party with him (Later in the season is revealed that he did this, among other things because she is a sentimonster like him) Kagami doubts while they descend to the ballroom to initiate the dance, but at the end she says no, Félix seems somewhat upset by this.
Seeing Adrien (Félix) on the first floor, Marinette calls his name and goes to him. Everyone seems surprised to see her there. Once she is in front to him, she tells him that even though he had to go to the dance by orders of his father he didnt need to hide it from her. Chloe makes a fuss about Marinette being on the party, and tries to get her out of it ordering some robots in the ballroom to do it. Marinette seeing this rushes and turns to look at Adrien (Félix), hugs him by the neck and confesses her love for him for the third time, reasuring him and telling him to have fun, as she will see him tomorrow. Félix looks worried for Marinette after this confession, he turns to see Kagami like hes thinking what to do, when Marinette is about to turn away and leave Félix grabs her by the hand, she turns to see him surprised, Félix smiles at her, pulling her close, as they begin to dance together. While the scene seems very dreamlike and romantic for both of them, Chloe shouts making everyone know that Marinette is the daughter of a baker who got into the dance as an intruder. Everyone expresses their disgust out loud.
Félix notices, and while dancing with her tells her: "All eyes are on you", but Marinette answers him telling him that they look at ther like shes a monster. Félix frowns as he gets closer to her and tells her: "Look closer Marinette, they are the monsters"
Marinette after hearing this and seeing the expression on his face, doubts that he is Adrien, and then recognizes him as Félix, saying it out loud, Félix only smiles at her. Chloe enraged throws herself trying to get Marinettes mask off her face, Félix uses the chance to transform with the peacock miraculous as Argos, creating a sentimonster with the apperance of a Red moon, which gives him the power of wiping out anyone who has been bathed in his light with a snap of his fingers, the first victm is Chloe when she begins to talk, and she wipes her out, after seeing this everyone panicks and starts running away. Marinette gets scared after seeing how Chloe dissapeared just behind of her, looking at Argos while he grabs her by her wrist.
In the middle of all, Gabriel shouts Félix name gaining his attention, Marinette tries to use the chance to run away but Argos just pulls her closer by the wrist. Gabriel tries to threaten Félix, but he seems done with it and while shouting that he will free him, his mother and Adrien from his control he snaps his fingers, making him disappear. The moon gets bigger and brighter as Argos snaps everyone at the party one by one, even Kagamis mom, telling to be happy because now she is free. After doing this, Argos holds Marinette by her waist, then carries her bridal style, taking her away with him. Once out of the party, Argos walks around the city with Marinette in his arms, Marinette starts questioning him about where Adrien is, but Argos reassures her that he wouldnt hurt Adrien, as he hides her in a recycling bin he tells her that Adrien is very lucky to have her, and that she should stay safe there, going away. Marinette is angry, saying to Tikki that this time he wouldnt let Félix get away with his plans, and the she transforms as Ladybug. Meanwhile Argos is snapping everyone out of existence in Paris while he sings out of joy, because now he has the power to do what people used to do with sentimonsters.
Ladybug then appears on scene, Argos seems happy at this, saying now he only needs Chat Noir so he can get both of their miraculous, Ladybug fed up with the situation attacks Argos by grabbing him by the wrist with her yoyo while pulling him close to her as she shouts with anger, blaming him, and saying how because of him she lost all of the other miraculous before. Ladybug starts attacking him but Argos seems more in control as he avoids her attemps of hitting him, while he succesfully attacks her, while saying how he wants the miraculous of the ladybug and the cat so he can make his wish. Ladybug tries to defend herself and attack again, saying how she doesnt understand what he wants. Argos stops Ladybug by threating of snapping his fingers against her, while he says that he wants to make the wish so he can make a free world where nobody has to be under anyones control, where theres no people to decide who gets powers and who doesnt, like Ladybug.
She tells him that there is a terrible price to pay if he wants to make the wish come true, he seems sad and surprised at her answer, but then he tells her: "There is no price too high for me, i have nothing to lose"
Ladybug seeing that he has let his guard down takes the chance to break a lamppost so it distracts him as she finds another way to attack, using her yoyo, she she knocks him to the ground while getting on top of him. They fight and after a while Argos decides to snap Ladybug. It is revealed that Félix has the power to bring back anyone he has snapped, as at the beginning of the plan he snapped Adrien but when Kagami confronted him he was able to bring him back, revealing that he did this plan to set them all free. Both Kagami and Adrien tell him that what he is doing is wrong, they are both sad because they lost everyone including Marinette, but Félix says that in fact he has not dissapeared Marinette, when he tries to get her back though, it doesnt work, both Kagami and Adrien get even more mad at this, and tell him to make everyone come back, Argos does it, he seems upset and clarifies he never meant harm to them.
Once everyone comes back, Marinette re-encounters with everyone, Argos seems sad likes hes yearning from something when he sees Adrien and Kagami hug with Marinette and all of them being happy together. He goes away from the scene, afraid that his power is truly out of control, in pain and asking for forgiveness, he decides to snap the red moon sentimonster out of existence, crying because he sees sentimonsters as his family. After this he comes back to London, revealing to us that Félix's mother knows hes Argos and that Félix planned this to prove to his mom that Gabriel is a bad person,
His mom is very upset, saying that Gabriel is a monster, that all of them are monsters. Félix hugs his mom and says that not all of them are monsters. We dont know if his words are about Adrien, Kagami or even Marinette, or the three of them, though it is a fact that the only human Félix saved during his attack/attempt of genocide was Marinette.
Fanon[]
Felinette is considered to be the very first ship of Miraculous Ladybug, as they were the original canon pairing in the early stages of the series, such as in comics, animations, and more. The idea of Felinette has always been alluring to the fandom. Even when Félix hadn't appeared in the series, there were fans who preferred the version/idea of Félix and Marinette together. That's when a lot of fanon content started to appear within the Miraculous Ladybug fandom about Felinette. Some fans still see Félix from the Miraculous promotional video (PV) and Félix from the show as different characters, preferring their own headcanons to the canon of the show. Some fans like to ship Félix with the PV version of Marinette, who got nicknamed as "Bridgette" to separate between the PV and current versions. However, it was confirmed by the creator Thomas Astruc that her name was originally Marinette from the start and there was no "Bridgette". When Félix appeared on the series, the fanon idea of Felinette just got stronger, to the point where artist would do their own AUs for Felinette. The most remarkable one is Emzurl's Miraculous The Office AU, an animated fanon series on Youtube about an AU made for Felinette.
After their scenes together in Emotion the ship just got even more fans, and even though both Marinette and Félix have canon pairings (The love square and Félix x Kagami) Felinette continues to grow stronger within the series and the fandom.
