For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron ... In some ways Hermione and Harry are a better fit
—JK Rowling[1]

Harmony is the het ship between Harry Potter and Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter fandom.

Canon[]

Though Harry and Ron initially thought Hermione Granger was stuck-up and arrogant, the three became best friends after Harry and Ron saved her from a troll in their first year, and she in turn lied to keep them out of trouble. Her quick mind was sometimes the only thing that saved the three friends from potential failure in both life-threatening and mundane situations. Hermione was always with Harry and fiercely protective of him, from snapping at Lavender Brown when she doubted Harry's claim that Lord Voldemort had returned, to interceding when Dolores Umbridge was about to use the Cruciatus Curse on Harry. Hermione also stood by Harry when Ron doubted him during the Triwizard Tournament, accepting his story "without question", and when Ron temporarily left them in 1997, despite her own romantic feelings for Ron. Harry, for his part, was quick to defend Hermione against Cho Chang, Draco Malfoy, and others who insulted her, and instinctively protected her physically in dangerous places.

Although their friendship remained entirely platonic, their closeness sometimes aroused jealousy or curiosity in others, especially those who had feelings for one or the other, including Cho Chang, Viktor Krum, and even Ron. When the two were briefly alone together during the search for the Horcruxes, Harry and Hermione experienced some "charged moments", in which the two "shared something very intense"; however, Harry remained devoted to Ginny. As Harry himself described it, Hermione was one of his two best friends. The two were also close enough to share their feelings with each other before sharing them with their significant others. Through Hermione's marriage to Ron Weasley and Harry's marriage to Ginny, Hermione became his sister-in-law and the aunt and godmother of his children.

Year One[]

Hermione and Harry meet on the train to Hogwarts. Harry learns that Hermione has read about him in books. At first, Harry and Ron do not like Hermione very much, as she seems annoying and bossy to them. When Harry and Ron set up a duel with Draco late one night, Hermione was pretty much against the idea when they went to the "supposed" duel. And Harry and Ron were pretty focused on the duel, so they just ignored her. When they all realized that Draco had tricked them and was trying to get them into trouble with Filch seeing them, they had to try to hide somewhere. They ended up in front of a locked door. When none of the boys knew what to do next, since they didn't know many spells at the time, Hermione grabbed Harry's wand and used the Alohomora, which happened to be the home of Fluffy, the three-headed dog. One day, after Charms class, when Ron made that "nightmare" comment about Hermione, she happened to hear it and bumped into Harry, hurrying past them. She did not show up for the next two classes or the Halloween feast. Harry and Ron had overheard Parvati telling Lavender that she had seen her crying in the girls' bathroom. When Professor Quirrel warned the whole dining hall that there was a troll in the dungeon, Harry remembered that Hermione was still stuck in the bathroom and persuaded Ron to come along. When they first saw the troll, they were able to lock it in a room. Unfortunately, they realized minutes later that they had locked the troll in the girls' bathroom where Hermione was when they heard her scream. In the end, Harry and Ron defeated the troll and saved Hermione, with Harry literally jumping on the troll to distract it from attacking Hermione, and Ron using Wingardium Leviosa to successfully knock the troll out with its club. McGonagall, Snape and Quirrel came in soon after, and Hermione stood up for Harry and Ron so they wouldn't get into trouble. This was the first time Harry ever defended Hermione. When Ron complained that he didn't get more points for defeating the troll and saving Hermione, Harry reminded him that she might not have needed saving if they had locked the troll in the bathroom with her. This was also the night they all became best friends. Through this friendship, Harry and Hermione had shared many adventures and many interesting scenes together. In this book, Harry and Hermione carried a dragon to the top of the tallest tower at Hogwarts, they served detention together in the Forbidden Forest, and Hermione set fire to Snape's robes when she thought he was the one who made Harry lose control of his broom during their first Quidditch match. But the main mystery the trio is involved in in this book is finding out what is under the door Fluffy is lying on and trying to stop Snape, who they suspect is the one after the Stone. Towards the end of the book, Harry decided to get to the stone before Snape could, and Ron and Hermione went with him. They were able to get past Fluffy (Harry and Hermione played the flute) and Devil's Snare (Hermione did most of the work escaping the plant). In the next room, Harry was able to get the big key from the other flying keys. The next obstacle was for Ron, who had to deal with the Wizard's Chess. He finally had to sacrifice himself for Harry and Hermione to win the game and move on. For the next riddle, Hermione was the one who figured out the solution, which was to determine which liquid would allow you to go through the next door and which liquid would allow you to go back through the entrance you came from, since both entrances were blocked by flames. This whole scene shows how much trust and respect they have for each other. There's Harry trusting Hermione about which liquid is which to safely drink and go through the next door, there's Hermione telling him that he's "a great wizard" and Harry basically saying the same thing to her. Then we have the famous "friendship and bravery" line from Hermione, she did say "and" after "bravery," but what she meant to say is anyone's guess. What is believed to be Harry's first hug also takes place in this scene. After defeating Quirrelmort and talking to Dumbledore, Hermione and Ron were able to visit Harry in the hospital wing. When Harry first saw Hermione, she looked as if she wanted to put her arms around him, but was glad she didn't because he was hurt. As they left the station and said their goodbyes, Hermione looked a little unsure when she saw how unpleasant Vernon Dursley seemed.

Year Two[]

There are not many scenes between Harry and Hermione in this book, mainly because Hermione is gone for about a quarter of the book when she is petrified by the basilisk. In the beginning, Harry is told that it is "painful" to think of Hermione because he misses her when Dobby intercepts letters to him. At the Dueling Club meeting, Harry saved Hermione from being strangled by Millicent Bulstrode. When Hermione had her Polyjuice Potion mishap, which ended up changing her face into that of a cat, Harry quickly calmed her down and suggested they take her to the hospital wing. Around the time Hermione was petrified, McGonagall went to Harry to show him what had happened to her. She casually suggested to Ron that he come too. When McGonagall caught Harry and Ron snooping around, Harry made up a story that they were going to visit Hermione in the hospital wing. She bought it, and Harry could see a "tear glistening in her beady eye. And, technically, she only gave Harry permission to see Hermione. And at the end, when Hermione is no longer petrified, she is seen running up to Harry in the dining room and shouting, "You solved it! You solved it!"

Year Three[]

One of the favorite books for Harmony shippers, mostly because of the time travel adventure they shared together. But this is also the first book where they had a conflict with each other (the Firebolt incident). The Firebolt incident is quite controversial among Harmony shippers. Some think that Hermione was right to confiscate Harry's Firebolt. Some think that Hermione should have told Harry about her concerns, whether the broom was cursed or not. Some think Harry exaggerated. And some people think that Ron played a major role in Harry's ostracism of Hermione. Regardless, Harry believed that Hermione meant well. When he got the Firebolt back, he wanted to make up with Hermione. And when they did make up, it was Ron who sort of shoved it in her face that there was nothing wrong with the broom, while Harry admitted that it might have been bewitched. There's a scene where Hermione does a spell on Harry's glasses so he can see through the fog while playing Quidditch. Even though he takes Ron's side in the Crookshanks/Scabbers debacle, he tries to cheer Hermione up. Finally, they ride together on the Hippogriff, a symbol of love.
