Finnedain is the het ship between Finn and Edain from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Finn and Edain are two playable characters in Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War. Edain is the daughter of the Duke of Yngvi (a part of Grannvale kingdom). Finn is a young knight of Leonster.
On the begining of the game most Grannvale's forces are fighting the kingdom of Isaach. The neighbour's kingdom Verdan took advantage of the fact that most Grannvale's forces are away to attack the country. Led by Munnir (Verdan's prince) Verdan's forces invade Yngvi. Edain is captured by Munnir who take her to Verdan. Sigurd (the heir to the dukedom next to Yngvi and Edain childhood friend) go to fight Verdan to defend the country against the invasion and to save his friend. The prince of Leonster Quan (close friend with Sigurd) and his wife Ethlyn (Sigurd's sister and Edain's childhood friend) went to Grannvale to help Sigurd, they came accompanied by Finn. Jamke (Verdan's youngest prince) disagree with the invasion and free Edain alongside the thief Dew (who are asked to protect her) and they both join Sigurd's army.
If Edain reaches enough love points with Finn they will wed. At one point Sigurd is accused of being a traitor of the crown of Grannvale and is forced to flee to Silesse with his allies, including Finn and Edain. After hiding in Silesse for one year, Finn returns to Leonster along with Quan and Ethlyn, who decide to bring reinforcements back to Sigurd, and left Edain. Leonster, however, falls to Thracia, prompting Finn to flee with Leif (Quan and Ethlyn's infant son). At the end of chapter 5, Sigurd is betrayed and killed by Arvis. Most of his army died with him but Edain survive and flee to hide in Isaach (where some members of the army has sent their children to safety). She becomes an abbess in Tirnanog. She raises her own children that she had with her husband Lana and Lester, and acts as a mother figure to Seliph, Diarmuid/Tristan, Larcei/Creidne, and Scáthach/Dalvin. On the same time Finn raise Leif and Nanna/Jeanne while protecting them from the empire.
Seventeen years after Sigurd's death, Seliph (Sigurd's son) decide to fight the Empire's oppression and begin to liberate Isaach. Lana and Lester become members of Seliph's army. Their fight against the empire led them to unite with Leif's army who also started to fight the empire. The two army merge together. If Finn married Edain he will have a special conversation with their daughter Lana. Not knowing that she is his daughter he explain that she remind him his lover with who he was separated by war, he state that Lana is the first person he met to match Edain's beauty. Lana ask the name of Finn's lover and is suprised when she learn that he is her father.
The empire is finally defeated and Seliph become king. After the war Lester go to Yngvi, if Lana is not married she will go with , otherwise she will live with her husband. Finn return to Leonster to serve Leif who became king. It's unknow if Edain reunited with him.
Fanon[]
On AO3, the ship has only 4 works created in general, being the 6th most written ship for Edain and the 11th for Finn.Finnedain is a rare pair for strategic reason, while it has some advantage (generally good stats and the useful skills pursuit and prayer) but Lester won't be able to inerits bow and Finn's weapon will return to the shop and he will start chapter 7 with only an iron lance. Therefore, most players prefers to pair Edain with Jamke or Midir since they give a decent Lana and a good Lester with the skill Charge (and Pursuit if Midir is the father), and a few even like to pair Edain with Arden. With Midir, Jamke or Arden as his father, Lester will be able to inherit weapons (including a brave bow). The players who whant to focus on Lana, generally pair Edain with Azelle or Claud as she can have good magic growths. The lack of popularity can also be explained by the fact that Edain and Finn are never seen interacting together and member of the fanbase prefer to ship Finn with Lachesis or Brigid because of their interractions in the midquel Thracia 776 (and because it was chosen by one manga adaptation for the former).
A small part of the fandom ship them mainly because of Lester's blue hair which is a physical trait that he share with Finn. The fact that Finn get a specical conversation with his daughter if he married Edain (he also get the conversation with his daughter if he married Ayra or Lachesis) also raised a bit the popularity of the pairing.
