"Flash and Substance" has Flash asking Batman to come with him to Flash Persuasion Day. With wanting one of the seven original members, besides himself, to be there. And Batman was the only one of them who is available. Batman agrees to go and brings Orion with him. While the later hero wonders how the Dark Knight could let an upstart like Flash push him into it. But Batman just glares at Orion in silence. With a number of super criminal of Flash's home city vanishing off the radar, and with it being Flash's special day, Batman had a feeling those criminals plan to kill. That's why he agreed to attend the opening of the new Flash museum, to aid Flash for when those criminals criminals come after him. After filling Flash in on this, not long after he had run ins with Mirror Master and Caption Boomerang, Batman and Orion tell Flash that they'll be teaming up with him today. Although Batman wanted to do things his way, Flash convinces him to it his way. This allows the Dark Knight to see how Flash handles his rogues in his unique way. Like watching Flash getting Trickster to reveal everything through compassion than ruthlessness, while talking like they were old friends than enemies. Now knowing where Mirror Master is, Captain Cold and Captain Boomerang plan to attack Flash. Batman waited outside the museum for them, but the three criminals managed to sneak passed him and Orion. Once the two saw people running out of the building, they go in to aid Flash. When Flash dove into the mirror dimension to save a woman, Batman uses a bat flair to help Flash find the mirror back. Arriving just in time to save Batman and Orion from the three criminals.

FlashBat is mostly supported in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited sides of the DC Animated Universe fandom. Because DCAU is one of the first DC animations to have the most screen time of Batman with a Flash, while other media adaptations don't have many moments between Bruce and Barry Allen, FlashBat tends to overshadow BatFlash (Bruce x Barry Allen), in fanworks. Due to the nature of the ship's title, however, some have confused FlashBat with BatFlash.
Since the mainstream comics and other DC media adaptations have Batman first meet Wally as a kid or teen during his Kid-Flash days, most fans outside of the DCAU fandom, treat the other versions of FlashBat as a friendship.
