Friendship Flag is the poly ship between Leafy, Book, Needle, Coiny, and Tennis Ball from the Battle for Dream Island fandom.
Canon[]
The Fish Monster asks what Leafy is doing here, and she says she's the new host. She asks if they can host together, but the Fish Monster refuses and chomps everyone up and spits them out in the Playground Area from last episode. Coiny lands in a sandbox, Tennis Ball, Book and Needle land on a slide and slide down it, Pin lands on one side of the seesaw, and Leafy floats to the other, launching Pin into the air; After this, Leafy says that this season is all hers. Pin is glad she's out, since Leafy is hosting; Leafy refuses to eliminate her since "true allies never eliminate each other", but Pin simply leaves herself, while still trying to do a cartwheel.
Tennis Ball sympathetically asks Leafy if she can really handle being a host because of the controversy a few years ago and she wants to fit in. to which she responds with a yes, reasoning that she spent the last five nights writing fun activities they can do for the challenge, and that host is synonymous with friend; Book points out this isn't true using one of her pages, to which a frustrated Leafy changes the text on it. Leafy exclaims that she will be the best host ever, but Coiny says that she hasn't even given him a prize; Leafy nervously hands him Pin's battery, after which he gives it back to Pin.
Needle asks what the challenge will be, and Leafy responds by bringing out the wheel, which now has "WITH LEAFY" scribbled in on every option except for the one labelled "barbershop quartet". Needle asks if Leafy tampered with the wheel, and the latter refuses, before scribbling "WITH LEAFY" onto the purple slice. Needle spins the wheel, which lands on "Claim the most territory (WITH LEAFY)". Coiny says that the challenge will be easy, but Leafy has to explain with "WITH LEAFY" part of the challenge. It entails taking Leafy to a travel destination, and if she likes her time there, she plants a Friendship Flag for the person that took her there. Whoever has the most flags planted when Leafy doesn't have any more, is the one that wins immunity from elimination. Book asks Leafy if the challenge is just an excuse to travel with friends, but the latter responds that travelling is just a side effect. Leafy then lets the vacations commence, and the challenge starts.
Tennis Ball asks where Leafy would like to travel first, and the latter responds that they've always dreamed of going to Mount Everest. Coiny interrupts by asking Leafy if she's enjoying her time right here at the playground in the Pristine Plains, and Leafy realises she is, and puts down a Friendship Flag for Coiny. Needle says that since Leafy wants Mount Everest, she has to make it happen, so she somehow pulls Mount Everest from the background into the foreground and places Leafy on a shrunken down version of Mount Everest. Leafy says that she's having a fun time on it, and gives Needle (whom she calls "Needy" resulting in a slap from Needle) a Friendship Flag, which breaks Mount Everest into pieces. Tennis Ball says that the Mount Everest crystals could be a great source of forward thrust, but Book says that TB can't waste time as they're the only players without flags. Tennis Ball realises this and says that he and Book should form a Secret Underdog Alliance, which Book likes the sound of. Coiny overhears this and tells Needle to form a Top Dog Alliance so that the underdogs don't gang up on them. Needle approves of this, but then says that she can't rely on just one ally, so she rushes over to Tennis Ball and asks if he remembered the deal they made. Tennis Ball responds with a yes, and Needle says that as part of the deal, Tennis Ball cannot harm Needle in any way during the challenge. Tennis Ball unenthusiastically replies with his signature "Aw, okay", and Needle says that she's still got The Contract alliance. Coiny sees that Needle has already defected from the Top Dogs and offers to make a Non-Defector Alliance with Book. Book accepts, but says that Needle is also her friend, so she goes to Needle to see if she and her are still FreeSmart Final Four Friendos, which Needle responds with "For real!" Tennis Ball sees that FreeSmart is still too powerful even during the merge, so he approaches Coiny and says that only by teaming as The Boys can they take down the FreeSmart Final Four Friendos. Coiny is hesitant, but later accepts. Leafy says that it's nice to see everyone working together, but Needle says that she would like to win immunity for herself, so she drags Leafy to the Evil Forest, with the latter saying that the Evil Forest is scary. Once Needle leaves, Coiny asks Book and Tennis Ball if the 3 of them want to create an alliance.
The scene cuts to Leafy and Needle in the Evil Forest, with the former says that she has a bad feeling about the place. Needle says that there's nothing to be afraid of, but Leafy says that she was violently detected at the exact location they are at in the Evil Forest once. Needle responds that she was burnt to a crisp in the Evil Canyon. Leafy says that she and Needle have so much in common, then hugs Needle, and puts down Needle's second Friendship Flag. Leafy hears music and asks what it is, and Book says that it's coming from the Concert Auditorium and that Pan Flute and his orchestra are performing. She take Leafy and puts her on a seat while Pan Flute conducts Call To Adventure. Book asks Leafy if the music is nice, but Leafy says that she is not a fan of the genre of music. Book says that she can fix that, and whispers to Pan Flute to play a different song. Pan Flute says that he won't play the musical garbage Book suggested, but Book threatens to kill Pan Flute in a similar way to how he was killed in PointyPointyPointy ♫. Pan Flute says that he will play the piece, and conducts his orchestra to play a piece known as "Smaller Cap = Less Plastic". Leafy says that the song brings her back to the good old days, and gives Book a Friendship Flag. Leafy then goes over the current scores, saying that Book and Coiny are tied with 1 flag, Needle having 2, and Tennis Ball, whom she calls a "terrible friend", has 0 flags. Just then, the aforementioned Tennis Ball drives into the Concert Auditorium (breaking down the door in the process) in his new car made out of the rocks from Mount Everest, asking if such a terrible friend would give Leafy a ride in their brand new car. Leafy says that the car looks fancy, hops in the car, and Tennis Ball drives off. Coiny says to stop Tennis Ball as he is taking Leafy away from the others, so he, Needle, and Book chase after Tennis Ball in the car. Leafy asks where they are heading, and Tennis Ball responds by saying that there are lots of needies (resulting in a slap from Needle) and yoyleberries there. Leafy figures out that they're going to Yoyleland and accepts it, but then tells Tennis Ball that they have to drive through the Goiky Highway, which was destroyed, but Tennis Ball says that it's been refurbished.
Tennis Ball and Leafy drive on the Goiky Highway, with Book, Coiny and Needle right on their tail, but Tennis Ball yells to stop after he sees a hole in the road. He and Leafy gets out of the car and says that they can't cross. Coiny says that maybe he can jump across, but fails to do so. Needle asks who wants to jump next, and Book says she doesn't want to do it as a gap that large is uncrossable. The 5 of them spend until nighttime by the hole. Coiny, Book, and Tennis Ball are all asleep, and Needle sleepily says that it's currently the 7th hour since the challenge began. Leafy is contently drinking some Bubbly Pop and asks if they're all having a good time. Tennis Ball wakes up and says that he isn't, and comments on the bridge builders' horrendous building skills. Book asks if there's anything than can be used to fill the hole, and Tennis Ball says that after some careful analysis, he saw that the shape of the hole looked familiar, almost as it was someone they once knew. The 5 of them peer into the hole, and Coiny asks if it looks like Black Hole. Tennis Ball says that it doesn't, and goes on to say that they all know who the hole looks like, and that they need to recover him. Needle uses Tennis Ball's Magnet to bring the HPRC over. Needle, Tennis Ball and Coiny bring the HPRC over, but notice Bomby sticking out. Coiny then shoves him back inside, stating that he's useless. The contestants then start to recover someone one by one slowly, which was Woody. They start cheering for him until Coiny ruthlessly shoves him in the hole. Then, they all get inside of Tennis Ball's vehicle.
Tennis Ball tells Leafy that the next location will be when he needs a gift for someone's birthday party. Book and Needle are seen, with Book concerned that they are falling behind in the contest. Needle states that Tennis Ball is declining the contract, and Book says that Coiny doesn't seem to be upholding the NDA. Needle grabs Book and exclaims that he's not staying true to the Top Dogs. Needle asks where Coiny even went, but then Book decides to look up on where they both are. Then, Needle and Book start to chase after them after finding their location. Then, we see Nickel, who was still flying from being hit by the HPRC, and eventually lands on something. He claims that the location he landed at feels welcoming, but then slowly zooms out for a hydraulic press to be shown. Cuts back to Tennis Ball and Leafy still driving, until they start drifting randomly. Leafy worriedly claims that the way they are going is not straight. Tennis Ball asks what's going on with the vehicle, until it shows Coiny, right under the vehicle and controlling the vehicle's wheels. Leafy states that she's feeling carsick and not having a fun time, until Tennis Ball quickly shoves an onion down her mouth again to reduce her nausea. Since Tennis Ball made her feel better, she decides to place down a flag for him, which ends up getting planted on Nickel on the hydraulic press. After the flag gets planted on him, he notices his circular hole. Book and Needle are then seen running towards the junkyard and Book calls out Tennis Ball for having a flag. After Coiny learns this, he starts to control the vehicle more, until they get into a car crash. Tennis Ball and Leafy both fly forwards, and Leafy makes it through the fence, but Tennis Ball doesn't due to his size. Coiny then blames the bad driving on Tennis Ball, with Leafy agreeing. Leafy and Coiny then decide to go to the desert after encountering a storm cloud. Book and Needle catch up to Tennis Ball and agree to crush his flag, with Nickel noticing but not understanding. Book and Needle go through the fence. A dazed Tennis Ball wakes up and repeatedly tries and fails to go through the fence himself.
Coiny and Leafy are shown hopping through various Goiky locations until they reach the desert. Leafy is comfortable in the high temperatures for a moment, but is then set on fire due to the temperature. Needle, having found Coiny, chastises Coiny and carries Leafy to a newly appeared mountain range. Leafy, having cooled off, considers giving Needle a Friendship Flag, but then freezes over due to the low temperatures. Coiny and Needle repeatedly cool and warm Leafy until Book arrives and puts Leafy in the middle. Coiny begins to spin Leafy to keep her temperature stable. Leafy nearly gives the three of them a Friendship Flag, but then starts to become nauseous. Then, Tennis Ball, having recovered fully, gives Leafy another onion, causing her to feel fine. Leafy gives Tennis Ball his third flag. The crack beneath Woody begins to grow, startling him. Leafy, even after eating onions, becomes hungry. Thankfully, Book is also Leafy's Diary, so she reads through Leafy's thoughts and finds that she wants to go to the corn field. The five of them begin to travel.
Book hands Leafy a piece of corn, but Leafy becomes distracted by the tornado. Leafy notices Ice Cube and pulls her out of the tornado, asking if the two of them are friends. When Ice Cube denies this statement, Leafy kicks her back into the tornado. Then, Gelatin attempts to befriend Leafy, and Leafy almost agrees, but then remembers that he was the one that killed her two years ago, and denies his friendship. Book asks if she can get a flag, which Leafy agrees to, reluctantly. After this, the crack beneath Woody begins to expand, scaring him.
Coiny tells Leafy that he knows another place to take her, the mall. Leafy agrees, and they go to the backside of the mall. However, Coiny forgets that the entrance is on the opposite side from where they are, so he and Leafy take a trip around the world, causing Woody to slip farther down in the process. Once in the mall, Leafy notices a claw machine, but doesn't have any money to get a prize, to which Coiny responds that he will work as money to play. After some hesitation, Leafy forces Coiny into the machine, causing it to break. Somehow, this works and allows Leafy to get a prize. But after opening it, it is shown to be options for execution, and a 15 minute warning. Leafy is disappointed and angry, but Coiny folds the paper into an airplane that carries Tennis Ball onto the Announcer Crusher. Leafy gives Coiny a flag, which prompts Needle to storm into the mall and tells the two of them that she will take Leafy to the summit of Yoyle Mountain. This begins a montage of the characters taking Leafy to various previous places. Needle gets a flag for the summit of Yoyle Mountain, and Book gets a flag for bringing Leafy to a cloud. However, after she plants the flag, the cloud dissipates and Book and Leafy fall out of the sky. Due to this, the tornado fades away as well, with Book's flag nearly hitting the eliminated contestants. Coiny takes Leafy to the remains of the So-Ha fashion store where Tennis Ball is recovered. Tennis Ball takes Leafy to the bug hive and gets a flag, but the two are swarmed by bugs moments later. They somehow survive and make their way to the Colosseum, where Needle gets a flag. Throughout the montage, Woody slips farther down and lava begins to fill up the crack, terrifying Woody until he accepts his fate. Leafy even takes Tennis Ball to Dream Island, which Tennis ball says is an experience he'll never forget. Another faster montage plays, showing Leafy planting flags in the Pristine Plains, the Really Weird Planet in the Orion Nebula, Pin's telepathic dimension, Tennis Ball (while shrunk down) and a lead atom (while even smaller). In her joy, Leafy gives all four of them a flag, causing the lava to rise out of the water and set the area around Woody aflame.
Tennis Ball, tired of running around, asks Book what the standings are. At that point, Book had 27 points, Needle had 63, Coiny had 69, and Tennis Ball had 80, pleasing TB. He then asks when the challenge ends, telling Book to read through Leafy's thoughts. The two of them realize that the point of the challenge was for Leafy to hang out with the final four for a very long time, and that Leafy has at least one million flags in her box. The two of them attempt to convince Coiny and Needle to stop playing Leafy's games, but they don't give up in their quest for victory. Needle takes Leafy to the Pillary Wonders (most likely the Pillary Ruins in the present), and Coiny tries to catch up with her. Tennis Ball and Book agree to destroy as many flags as they can, either for victory or for morality.
Coiny and Needle visit the Pillary Wonders, but Coiny grabs a frying pan and smacks Needle, causing her to fall down a pit. Later, the three of them are on top of the TLC/LOL, where Needle feeds Leafy ice cream. Leafy places a flag directly on top of the propeller, causing all of the eliminated contestants and the current contestants to fall out of the sky. Then, Coiny and Needle take Leafy to the bunk bed in the sky, where Needle sings her lullaby to put Leafy to sleep. But when Leafy places the flag, the aliens on the lower bunk are enraged and knock the three of them to the ground. During all of this, Book attempts to break a flag over her leg, and Tennis Ball grabs a hammer and starts smashing flags to pieces. However, by a few hours later, only two flags were broken in their quest. Thankfully, Book remembers that there is a hydraulic press in the junkyard, and the two of them walk to retrieve it. The hydraulic press requires a password to use, but Tennis Ball can hack into it. Pin then shows up, to which Tennis Ball immediately disregards her value to the show after her elimination. Book explains their dilemma, and Pin expresses her desire to end the season. Then, Pin gets an idea and leaves, after which the press is hacked. However, Nickel expresses a desire to be freed, which Book and TB comply to. Nickel begins to play on the playground, but Tennis Ball orders him to help crush the flags. As Nickel, Tennis Ball, and Book begin to end the challenge, Leafy senses what is happening almost immediately and teleports to the playground, but does not catch on yet. Tennis Ball and Book attempt to get Leafy to leave, but she only leaves once she remembers that Coiny wanted to take her to a sandwich shop. due to the close call, Book questions the possibility of the objective, to which Tennis Ball replies that the flags only have to be destroyed faster in that case.
Coiny feeds Leafy a Yoyleberry, making her metal. Coiny then grabs Leafy and jumps down the hole. Tennis Ball attempts to go as well, but Needle brings up the contract one final time. She jumps down the hole as Tennis Ball begins to panic, which is when Pin's drill lands right next to him. The screen cuts to Coiny and Needle running down the sides of the chasm, hitting and shoving each other until Coiny makes a remark about W.O.A.H. Bunch, which gets Needle to snap and hit Coiny so hard that he flies backward through the lava and comes into contact with Pin's corpse. Being too scared for her safety to move, that renders him out of the challenge. Leafy chastises Needle for being harsh, but she says that she has to do what she has to do.
Tennis Ball aims the drill at Needle, until Book comes up and attempts to make him see reason. However, Tennis Ball drops the drill anyway, so Book enters the chasm and tries to stop the drill from hitting Needle. Needed and Leafy finally make it to the core of the Earth, which is a marble. Leafy attempts to stab the flag into the core, but due to the core's bouncy properties, the flag doesn't stick inside the core. As Book falls, she attempts to grab the drill, which then hurts her hand, so she resorts to blocking it with her body, but then a burst of lava knocks her onto one of the sides of the chasm, setting her on fire. The drill then falls into and drills through one of her corners, causing her to scream. When Book reaches the core, she sees Leafy and Needle repeatedly attempting to give her the 10 points she needs to win, and tries to save Needle by jumping above her so the drill breaks her apart instead of Needle. However, it is discovered that Tennis Ball was not aiming for Needle, but Leafy. Her body is shredded and Book disintegrates into a pile of ash. Needle gets extremely angry at Tennis Ball for his actions, but Tennis Ball claims that he never disobeyed the rule of entering the chasm. Needle attempts to get the flag again, but the Earth closes up on her, crushing her and ending the challenge. Tennis Ball is the winner of the challenge by a single point.
Fanon[]
This ship is a rarepair in the community. The ship got popularity from the episode"I'm the Main Character", where Leafy becomes the host of the rival four contestants. The ship is mostly used as a compromise ship and a Leafy poly ship because the ships of them with Leafy as pairs are more popular then all of them together. This ship however does have quite a bit of art in a non-romantic sense, meaning the relationship is really popular, just not the shio. It's possible that this ship will become popular if they get another episode, however that's unlikely. Their rival ship is BFDIA Finalists, the ship between Book, Needle, Coiny, and Tennis Ball.
