Frunn is the het ship between Winifred "Fred" Burkle and Charles Gunn from the Angel fandom.

Canon

Fred and Gunn meet while trapped in the dimension of Pylea, where Fred has been hiding and living in a cave for 5 years. Gunn sees her for the first time as she saves him from being attacked by (demon) Angel.

Fred initially develops a crush on Angel. Gunn calls her an "Angel groupie" and claims to understand. He talks openly of his admiration for her strength and perseverance. After hiding herself in her room for 3 months, Gunn and the gang begin helping Fred adjust to life back on Earth. Gunn suggests using chopsticks or forks to eat and she takes a fork from him. She excitedly tells Angel that she's been "forking with Gunn."

After months of working together and developing a close friendship, Gunn starts to see Fred in a romantic light. He is very honest about his attraction towards her and realizes that their friend and colleague, Wesley, has also developed feelings for her. Thus, the start of the Gunn and Wesley rivalry. Fred quickly develops feelings for Gunn as well. When Angel gets tickets to the ballet, Fred goes shopping with Cordelia for dresses. When she asks Cordelia about him, Cordelia mistakenly assumes she's talking about Wesley and tells Fred that he definitely feels the same. Fred describes Gunn as someone who is "so sweet and commanding" and someone she feels very comfortable around. Ready for their first ballet, Gunn and Fred see each other for the first time all dolled up. Fred excitedly laughs and gasps, "I'm sorry it's just… my god, you're so pretty." Gunn responds, "There's not a lot of people who could say that to me and live but the way you look… there's no way I could fight you." The team attends the ballet and Fred's eyes are on Gunn. Unfortunately, the night goes south, and Gunn is stabbed. Fred attends to him and is extremely rattled by the thought of Gunn not surviving. He tries to make light of it but her trauma weighs heavy. He hugs and comforts her and is surprised by how much she cares for him. Together, they recite a romantic line from the ballet, "the light is dimming and all I ask is one last…" and share their first kiss. The next morning Gunn takes Fred to her favorite diner, a place they've been having breakfast together for weeks now, but this time it's different. They can't take their eyes off one another. They discuss their newfound feelings and wonder if anyone else can tell.

They begin secretly dating and often pair off for work. However, they become aware that their boss, Wesley, knows about them, and they contemplate how best to balance a relationship whilst remaining professional. On the job, they're ambushed and Gunn protectively tells Fred to run and she does. Moments later Fred returns and saves him from getting killed. She tells him, "I got your back." He thanks her and they kiss. The next morning they discuss their future at their regular breakfast spot. Fred asks Gunn how he would react if he had to choose between her and the job. He'd choose Fred.

Fanon

Fred and Gunn are a very popular ship in the Angel fandom. However, they are strongly rivaled by Fresley. On AO3, Fred/Gunn is the second most written ship for Gunn and the second for Fred.

Fans love how the Gunn/Fred romance provides the series with a hyper sweet and normal relationship amongst the more chaotic and complicated events of their everyday lives. Those that are against Fred and Gunn often object to her entering a relationship so soon after she experienced significant trauma or simply prefer her to be with Wesley.
