Funkin' Trio is the poly ship between Boyfriend, Girlfriend, and Pico from the Friday Night Funkin' fandom.
Canon[]
The trio first interact on Week 3 within the game. According to the official developers, the story behind the week involves Daddy Dearest hiring Pico as a hitman to kill off Boyfriend due to the man being in a romantic relationship with his daughter, Girlfriend. Pico obeys his employer and sets off to eliminate him. However, when discovering his target is his ex-boyfriend, he decides to rap battle in place of his original task for the sake of nostalgia. Progressing further into the weeks, upon hitting Week 7, Boyfriend and Girlfriend stumble upon a restricted warzone and face Tankman. Tankman grows more aggravated at his constant losses and demands his men to shoot Girlfriend; before she could be murdered, Pico swiftly steps in, kicks her off the stereo and into Boyfriend's arms to rescue her, and blasts the soldiers. The trio are implied to collide again in Week 8.
The trio are known for their destructive behaviors; Girlfriend and Boyfriend tend to commit various crimes whereas Pico is depicted as a hitman in the Friday Night Funkin’ platform, in which he is originally a student in Pico’s School who frequently utilizes gunfire. The three are capable of protecting themselves and, notably, others. Both Girlfriend and Pico had engaged in a romantic relationship with Boyfriend. Despite Pico and Boyfriend being exes, thus Boyfriend had moved on to Girlfriend, It seemed at first that Pico did not mind the transition and respects Girlfriend as an individual. In an update of the game. Pico is seen eliminating various cardboard cutouts of various characters with his heavy machine gun. When Boyfriend's cutout pops into view, he skips him, but when Girlfriend's cutout appears, he unhesitatingly obliterates it. A user on YouTube pointed out that he shot Girlfriend's cutout slightly more than the others, evidencing how he feels about her. However, his negative opinion on her contradicts his act of heroism when he saved her from gunfire in Week 7. This may be due to him caring for Boyfriend as a reliable friend and is aware of how valuable Girlfriend is to him.

The trio are a heavily popularized ship within the Friday Night Funkin’ fandom. Many fanart and videos depict them hanging around together, even resulting in AUs of them being roommates. A possible main factor for the pairing is the notable fact that they are currently the only “chibi” designed adults in the franchise. A heavy rise in the popularity occurred after the release of Week 7, for Pico had rescued Girlfriend as she sings with Boyfriend. Additionally, the two are popularized in fandom meme media with many different scenarios featuring the trio.
Fans also create mods for the original game that centered around the three, such as the “Tall Mod” in which Boyfriend, Pico, and Girlfriend are taller than their original designs, and “Bad Time Trio”. Popular headcanons include Pico and Girlfriend sharing romantic affection for Boyfriend simultaneously. The ship currently has 272 works as a polyamorous pairing on AO3.
