Chapter IV: Act I - Prelude of Blancheur and Noirceur[]
Furina and Lumine first come face to face during the quest Soloist's Prologue when the latter arrives in the nation of Fontaine alongside her traveling companion Paimon. To the duo's surprise, the two are welcomed soon after by none other than the Hydro god who presides over Fontaine - Furina, the Archon of Justice - who claims to have come to receive them personally and expresses a desire to have an "epic duel" with Lumine in particular. When Lumine interprets this as a provocation for a genuine fight and draws her sword in response, Furina questions nervously how Lumine isn't afraid at all about a duel against the divine, while at the same time expressing her admiration for Lumine's courage and referring to her as a true warrior. She clarifies that the kind of duel she wants to face Lumine in is a "duel in court", bringing up one of Fontaine's arbitrary laws (which Lumine and Paimon had not even technically broken) as an excuse to order Lumine's arrest and put her on trial. Much to Furina's amusement, however, a clever trick by Lyney - a magician that Lumine and Paimon had befriended very soon after arriving in Fontaine - causes Furina's charges against Lumine to no longer hold water, leading Furina to drop said charges before taking her leave.
Following some type spent with Lyney (and his siblings Lynette and Freminet) in the quest The City of Rains and Remembrance, Lumine and Paimon make their way to the Opera Epiclese to take their seats for Lyney and Lynette's magic show, at which Furina is also present but sitting at a much higher seat than everybody else. Coincidentally, Lumine gets seated right next to Neuvillette - the Chief Justice of Fontaine and closest individual to Furina - who comments on how Furina's been striking a pose in her seat for a while in the hopes of giving Lumine an elegant first impression, urging Lumine to look up before Furina gets too flustered and leading her to see Furina giggling satisfiedly to herself. Once the magic show actually starts, the two intently watch the on-stage tricks from their own separate seats and give similar impressed reactions, until the final trick involving a "box swap" ends up going wrong and leaving both the performers and audience in shock.
After it turns out that the error in the trick caused the death of one of Lyney's assistants and the disappearance of the woman inside one of the boxes, Furina uses the latter to draw a connection between an unsolved and ongoing serial disappearances case in Fontaine and impulsively accuses Lyney of being one of its perpetrators. Her satisfaction only grows when Lumine agrees to become Lyney's attorney to defend him against Furina's accusation, stating that facing Lumine as an opponent excites her even more than the prospect of delivering justice onto Lyney and that their showdown will be riveting. Neuvillette even remarks out loud about how Furina has set Lumine in her sights before giving both sides one day to build their cases.
Once Lyney's trial begins in the quest Lies Cast Shadows Under Gathered Lights, Furina is quick to take notice of the disappointed looks on her opponents' faces and remarks that she hopes the lack of evidence in Lyney's favor doesn't cause Lumine to concede so easily lest Furina get disappointed over not getting a proper duel against her most anticipated foe. Over the course of the trial, Furina brings up everything she can from Lyney's lack of knowledge on things he'd have to be aware of if he were truthful to his and his siblings' relation to the Fatui - an antagonistic organization that Lumine herself had clashed with numerous times prior - and her internal monologue gleefully talks about how her reasonings have left Lumine flabbergasted. Eventually, however, Lumine ends up turning one of Furina’s arguments against her, and after some additional much-needed support from an organization called Spina di Rosula (which had assisted prior in the investigation to build Lyney’s case) at a dire moment, Lyney’s innocence is confirmed and Neuvillette clears him of all charges. Furina, unable to find anything else to say in response to this new revelation, displeasedly admits defeat and huffs at Neuvillette for not leaving her any dignity, prompting Paimon to whisper to Lumine about how Furina’s left looking like a “deflated balloon”.
Chapter IV: Act II - As Light Rain Falls Without Reason[]
Furina is absent for the vast majority of this act and doesn’t even occupy the same space as Lumine in the story until the quest When All Return to the Waters, where both of them are present to see Navia - the president of Spina di Rosula - go up in court against the true culprit of the serial disappearances case that Furina had accused Lyney of in the previous act. While Furina is there to see the charges being pressed in real time, Lumine at that time is busy gathering up evidence with Paimon and only shows up near the very end of the trial to put the final nail in the coffin. Once the duo show up at the opera house with the last piece of evidence Navia needs, though Neuvillette complains about how the rules of the court keep being disrespected, Furina believes based on Lumine’s confidence that she’s found crucial evidence and allows her to proceed.
Once this quest is completed, visiting the Fountain of Lucine in front of the Opera Epiclese will sometimes cause the player to hear what sounds like Furina weeping as she bemoans her loneliness and wonders how much longer she has to bear it, possibly serving as an indication that she wants something or someone to lead her from her solitude.
Chapter IV: Act IV - Cataclysm's Quickening[]
After being told by Neuvillette to go to the Opera Epiclese to protect Furina, who is currently in a diplomatic meeting with the Knave, Lumine only tells him to explain things later before going to the opera house. Upon seeing her arrival, Furina stands with joy and immediately urges Lumine to sit beside her.
Whilst being pelted with questions by Arlecchino, Lumine makes some decisions in an effort to draw the Harbinger's attention away from Furina. However, at one point, Arlecchino's patience runs out and thus she begins questioning Furina's authority, even claiming that she is negligent towards Fontaine and that she is not the only one with these thoughts in mind. Furina stands up to the Knave and rebukes her accusations, despite having been depicted as extremely frightened when faced with Arlecchino after nearly being assassinated. Lumine internally comments as to how Furina is not being her usual self, and that she truly thinks these thoughts, instead of putting up a front. This burst of confidence is immediately shattered later on when the Knave asks the details of her emergency plan.
Before going out of the room to accompany Arlecchino and proceeding to the next step of the quest, players can interact with Furina, who is still sitting on her spot. When interacted, players will see her sighing about how the tea party was more difficult than she expected, before seeing Lumine listening in on her, in which she will quickly change the subject and becoming incredibly dismissive.
Chapter IV: Act V - Masquerade of the Guilty[]
After arguing with Neuvillette, Furina hastily closes the conversation and runs out of the room, not acknowledging Lumine's presence by the door. When Paimon mentions this, Lumine notes how Furina seems "deeply troubled" and that she was hiding something. Then they enter Neuvillette's office, leading to the traveling duo and several other characters holding a meeting to "hunt" Furina.
Lumine internally reminds herself that the "hunt" is only a metaphor, and not something she should literally do, as the relationship between her and Furina has not reached such a dire stage. She notes how prying into Furina's secrets is "an act of sacrilegious disrespect", but must be done if they want Fontaine to be saved.
A few days after the meeting, the traveling duo gets informed that a small scale riot has been declared in the Opera Epiclese and that Furina is missing. They go to Poisson, where they find Furina sobbing, telling herself to give up and that she's ultimately helpless and saying apologies over and over again to the people that dissolved. When Lumine calls out her name, her demeanor immediately changes back to her boisterous, conceited persona, in which Lumine says that she doesn't need to keep acting tough. Furina shakily waves the concern off, before a small mob spot her, in which a chase scene ensues.
After the chase scene, the trio enter an inconspicuous house, in which Furina expresses relief at not being caught before slipping back to her mask again. A short moment later, a small earthquake occurs, startling everyone. When Paimon tells her that a similar earthquake happened before the tragedy of Poisson, Furina expresses genuine fear at a similar disaster happening again, which leads to the duo reassuring her and talking while she slowly calms down.
When she's relatively calm, Furina admits that she's been investigating the prophecy and trying out several ways to mitigate it during her entire time serving as the Hydro Archon, before talking about how fate will ultimately come to pass, no matter what she does or no matter how cruel fate may be. Lumine asks if she still hasn't given up, in which Furina relishes in the simple phrase, as it would mean coming to terms with fate and gaining her freedom. Then Lumine adds that giving up would mean that all hope would be lost. At that, Furina admits that she's thought about giving up multiple times, especially after Poisson, but also realizes that as long as the final moment hasn't come, it's still not too late. She says, either for Lumine or for herself, that she will keep hope alive for everyone.
A moment later, she slips back to her mask, claiming that she was just playing the stricken maiden and that they shouldn't take her words seriously whilst Lumine and Paimon exchange looks. Lumine, not willing to give up when they've come so far, still pushes on, saying that this isn't a burden she has to deal with alone. When Furina waves it off, saying that this duty is hers and hers alone, Lumine says that she can still choose to confide with someone. She adds that Furina can confide with her, as she is only a "witness" to Teyvat.
Furina seriously mulls over this offer, but just as she was about to respond, the "house" or the Magic Box opens up, revealing that now they're on the stage of the Opera Epiclese. She looks around as she gathers her bearings, before immediately slipping back to her mask once Lyney finishes his speech. Then, after refusing to duel Clorinde, Furina goes on an elaborate speech where she expresses genuine regret and willingness to take accountability for the tragedy of Poisson, before she concludes that the trial of the Hydro Archon shall now begin. When Furina accepts to stand trial, Neuvillette asks for the prosecutor to take the stand, in which Lumine steps forward. Lumine expresses regret or sadness at how things had to turn out like this, before reassuring herself that they can still get answers so long as they defeat Furina in court.
After defeating Furina in court and proving her to be human, Furina frantically cobbles up a last minute attempt to sway the opinion of her people, who are now viewing her with disdain and coldness. Whilst Neuvillette is declaring his verdict, Furina reaches out to Lumine, who refuses to meet her eyes and turns away. When she's declared guilty, Furina's world is shattered. Then she completely shuts down, hanging her head low while silently weeping on her throne. Even when the Oratrice's verdict reads as, "The Hydro Archon, guilty, to be punished via the death sentence", she has no response.
After the Narwhal suddenly appears and is repelled, the Oratrice starts acting strange. Neuvillette says that he believes that it's going to carry out the death sentence, and Lumine calls out Furina's name several times. When there's no response, she quickly rushes over, hand outstretched towards her, in which she comes in contact with Furina's tears, sending Lumine to her inner world.
Inside Furina's inner world, which takes place in the empty opera house, Lumine attempts to speak to Furina but is quickly brushed off as she says she shouldn't disrupt the performance. After connecting the dots, Lumine turns off the spotlights shining on to Furina, in which she receives a golden ticket and a front row seat. After taking her seat, Lumine witnesses Furina's struggles over the past 500 years--from the people's rejection of Furina's true self during her first accession speech, to her waiting for the "magnificent, dramatic and wondrous trial, a trial to end all things", to her investigations and interactions with her informants, and finally to her gathering her thoughts on her bed at the end of each day. Throughout the entire play of Furina's life, the Opera Epiclese remains hollow, until Lumine joins her onstage during that moment in the Magic Box. In that split second, Furina is shown to be internally debating herself over Lumine's offer, but ultimately slips her mask back on, rejecting the one chance she can fully be open. Lumine relents, before the lights go off, leaving only Furina and her spotlight.
In a cutscene, Furina dances in unison with Focalors whilst she's alone onstage, and Lumine watches her with a vaguely saddened expression on her face. As she takes her bow, Focalors is executed, and in her inner world, Furina disappears, her hat falling on the stage. The play thus concludes.
At the end of the Archon Quest, the traveling duo learn from Wriothesley that Furina has left. When they ask Neuvillette for the specifics, he says that Furina only said to him after relaying Focalors' words that she was tired and needed rest, before she packed her things, abdicated the post of Hydro Archon, and left the Palais Mermonia. After all that happened, Lumine nods in agreement that Furina's shackles of having to play as the Hydro Archon finally being removed will significantly reduce her burdens, and lead her to a normal life.
After the Archon Quest, players will no longer be able to hear Furina's voice crying at the Fountain of Lucine.

FuriLumi is a generally popular ship in the fandom, with fans liking the ship due to the inner emotional relationship shared between Lumine and Furina found within the plot of the Fontaine's Archon Quests series. Fans of the ship also likes to point out some similarities between the two, such as both were at least 500 years old and have each gone through much suffering, which prompt some artist to depict the two comforting each other, in a wholesome way.
Furilumi is in direct competition with much more popular ships like ScaraLumi and XiaoLumi on Lumine’s side, and Neuvifuri and Arlefuri on Furina’s. They currently have 120+ works on AO3.

Trivia[]
- As of the in-game reveal that Furina is the humanity of the Hydro Archon while Focalors is the divinity, they are technically seperate entities. Because of this, the ship name FocaLumi can be used to refer to two different ships; though it's still generally used in reference to Lumine's ship with the human Furina, since the ship and its name existed since before this revelation.
