Gabriphale is the non-binary ship between Gabriel and Aziraphale from the Good Omens fandom.
Canon[]
In both book and series, Archangel Gabriel is Aziraphale’s superior. Though he is only mentioned off-handedly by Aziraphale in the book.
Season 1[]
In the beginning, Aziraphale gets an unexpected visit from Gabriel when eating sushi at his favorite restaurant. Though Gabriel greets him cordially, he immediately criticizes Aziraphale’s decision to eat. Aziraphale justifies his regular eating as wanting to blend in with the humans, offering Gabriel some tea to have him try it. Gabriel declines pouring “gross matter” into his “celestial body”, though he relishes in Aziraphale complimenting his new suit, showing that Gabriel isn’t above some human customs. However, he says that the clothes won’t be around for long, saying that something is “afoot” regarding the birth of the Antichrist, suspecting that the demon Crowley has something to do with it. When Gabriel tasks Aziraphale to keep watch on Crowley without blowing their cover, he notes that it’s a miracle that Crowley reportedly never spotted Aziraphale, which Aziraphale covers by saying that miracles are not unusual for their kind.
11 years later, Gabriel visits Aziraphale again in his bookshop, under the guise of wanting to purchase some books. Looking for an excuse to talk with Aziraphale in private, Gabriel loudly announces that he is buying pornography. When Aziraphale hurries Gabriel and his companion into the back room of his bookshop, he assures that Gabriel managed to fool the human customers. Gabriel re-introduces Aziraphale to his companion, Sandalphon, before noting that something smells “evil”. Aziraphale couldn’t reveal that Crowley had been visiting the bookshop regularly, so he lies about some nearby books being the source of the smell. Gabriel then reveals that their visit is to check on the status of the Antichrist, which causes Aziraphale to get nervous, though he is relieved when Gabriel says that everything is going according to plan. Gabriel reminds Aziraphale that the hellhound had been set loose the day before, now they have to wait for the summoning of the Four Horsemen to start the Apocalypse. When Aziraphale asks Gabriel who summons them, Gabriel says that it’s not his department, they had to outsource someone. When Gabriel asks how the hellhound was, Aziraphale says that he couldn’t stick around to see. This satisfies Gabriel and he and Sandalphon leave while loudly thanking Aziraphale for his pornography.
In “Hard Times” when Aziraphale receives a clue where the Antichrist resides, he tries to practice telling Gabriel about it. However, when Gabriel later invites him for a meeting in Heaven, Gabriel notes that Aziraphale’s message was merely about wanting to tell him something. So he ordered the major Archangels to hear about Aziraphale reporting “something big”. Aziraphale stammers at first, but then settles on telling them the half-truth that the “other side” might’ve lost track of the Antichrist. Gabriel scoffs at that, reminding Aziraphale that the son of the American ambassador is under constant surveillance and is currently being transported to the plains of Megiddo, where the Apocalypse should start. Aziraphale then lies about it being possible that Crowley’s meddling might’ve caused the Antichrist to be a ruse and the real Antichrist is missing. When the Archangels ask where the real Antichrist should be, Aziraphale says he’s not sure, but could find out. Gabriel entertains the possibility, but shot it down under the pretense that it wouldn’t change anything, there will be a war between Heaven and Hell anyway. When Aziraphale asks if there has to be a war, Gabriel tells him that he appreciates the hypotheticals, but ends the meeting while explaining that they have other things to do.
In “Saturday Morning Funtime”, Aziraphale catches Gabriel on a morning jog in human disguise, wanting him to stop and chat with him for a moment. Aziraphale has something to tell Gabriel, hoping to get the news of prophecies upstairs to the “Big Boss”, Gabriel does not care for Aziraphale’s human prophecies. Aziraphale summarizes the prophecies of Agnes Nutter that came true, telling Gabriel that Armageddon is coming today just after teatime. Gabriel is very non-plussed by those news, telling Aziraphale that it’s “right on schedule” and tries to continue jogging. Aziraphale begs Gabriel to stop just for a minute to ask him if there’s nothing they can do. Gabriel tells Aziraphale they can fight and win, but Aziraphale tries to tell him that there doesn’t have to be a war. Gabriel misses the point entirely, telling Aziraphale that there has to be a war, else they couldn’t win it. So Gabriel orders Aziraphale to wrap up his businesses on Earth, report back to service in Heaven and adds a rude comment about Aziraphale needing to lose weight. When Gabriel tells him that he just now remembered that Aziraphale should still have his flaming sword, asking if he didn’t lose it, Aziraphale jokes about him giving it away, even though that’s exactly what he did. However, the Archangels find out about Aziraphale being in consorts with Crowley through photos of the two chatting with each other.
In “The Very Last Day of the Rest of their Lives”, Gabriel arrives at the scene of the Apocalypse, after the Antichrist and his friends had already slain three of the Four Horsepersons. Begging the young Antichrist to start the apocalypse anyway, Aziraphale interrupts them to ask about God’s Ineffable Plan Gabriel keeps bringing up. Gabriel tells Aziraphale to keep his mouth shut for the first time. However, when the Antichrist refuses, Gabriel complains that it’s not part of the Ineffable Plan, only for Aziraphale to shut him down for once by pointing out that he shouldn’t know what God’s plan was either, it is by definition ineffable. When both Gabriel and Beelzebub realize whose fault it is that the war would have to be called off, they resort to telling Satan about it to punish his son. However, the Antichrist rewrites reality so that his human father is his only one, stripping Satan of his power over him. However, just as it seemed that Aziraphale and Crowley get to relax, they are ambushed by the angels and demons respectively and sentenced to erasure from existence via Hellfire and Holy Water respectively. When Aziraphale tries to tell Gabriel that what they did was for the greater good, Gabriel shuts him up by telling “sunshine” that Archangel Gabriel should know above everyone else what the greater good is. When Aziraphale asks if the good guys can’t reconsider, Gabriel tells him that good guys make an example out of traitors and hurries Aziraphale to go into the Hellfire. When Aziraphale tries to give a farewell to the Archangels, hoping to meet them in another life, Gabriel tells him to shut up and die already. However, when Aziraphale stands right inside the fire while smiling and even trying to scorch the Archangels by breathing it out, Gabriel is shocked and thinks it is worse than they thought. Later, Aziraphale meets up with Crowley to switch to their original bodies, content that their respective higher ups are too afraid of them to bother them for a while.
