GakuRin is the het ship between Kamui Gakupo and Kagamine Rin from the Vocaloid fandom.
Canon[]
Gakupo and Rin are both characters from the voice synthesizer Vocaloid. The two belong from different companies, being Gakupo from Internet co. and Rin from Crypton Future Media. Because of this, the two don't appear together in many official stuff, though Gakupo appears in Hatsune Mix along with Crypton Vocaloids. Gakupo and Rin's relationship can variate depending on the song that they sing together.
Songs[]
The song Porinzu☆Porinzu (by Saya) shows Gakupo and Rin being in love with each other. Both are shy and doesn't know how to confess their feeling, so they want to express it undirectly. In the song The Tragedy of Chateau Cepage (by Mizuku) shows Gakupo kidnapping and abusing Rin. The song The Cursed Glassed - stray girl in her lenses (by Bucchigiri-p) talks about how Rin has a pair of glasses glued on that make her see the world as an RPG and doesn't know how to take them off. Meanwhile Gakupo, who sings in the background, palys the role of a priest, a doctor or an unknown character that ask her about how are things with the glasses. In the song Queen Thumbelina Gakupo is one of the many boys that fall in love with Rin.
Fanon[]
GakuRin is a rarepair within the Vocaloid Fandom. It is overshadowed by ships like GakuLuka, GakuKai, RinLen and MikuRin. The ship have also received many backlash due Rin being 14 and Gakupo, despite not having official age, is accepted as an adult by most of fans due to his appearance and voice. Most of GakuRin shippers defends the ship claiming that Gakupo is ageless, and often cite pairing that have a similar controversy yet are popular within the fandom, like KaiLen.
However, the ship has a loyal and dedicated fanbase. Many people love how they sound together, for how Gakupo's deep voice contrast with Rin's high and energetic one. Other reason why the ship is liked is because of their aesthetic, as Gakupo is tall and cool-looking while Rin short and cutesy. Though the ship only has 7 works on AO3, it has a surprisingly big amount of fanarts, as well as some covers. The ship was specially popular in the japanese fandom during the late 2000's era, and before Luka came out, it was one of the most common ships for both characters.
