Gal Pals is the friend ship between Sandy Cheeks, Penelope Puff, Karen Plankton, and Pearl Krabs from the Spongebob Squarepants fandom.

Canon

GIRLS' NIGHT OUT

Sandy made a scientific breakthrough and discovered how to shrink herself down to molecular size so that she could live with amoebas. She called up Karen and Mrs. Puff to tell them about her amazing feat in science. Karen and Mrs. Puff were both having a tough time, dealing with Plankton raging out and SpongeBob crashing the boat, respectively. It was clear that they both needed a break and a Gal Pal session with Sandy was exactly the break they needed. The Gal Pals gathered later that night, at a cafe, where Mrs. Puff and Karen vented their frustrations to Sandy before breaking down, crying. Sandy had an idea on how to cheer them up: pulling pranks on the people who annoyed them.

First, they pranked Plankton by having Sandy and Mrs. Puff dress as Mr. Krabs and go to the Chum Bucket. Using an AI voice generator from Karen, they made it sound like Mr. Krabs was retiring and giving up the secret formula to Plankton. Plankton fell for the trick and went to the Krusty Krab to recieve his formula. By trespassing, he set off the Krusty Krab's alarm and got the real Mr. Krabs to come on down and beat him up, which the girls had a good laugh over.

Next, they pranked SpongeBob, by giving him an VR headset and putting him in a virtual reality where he got his boater's license. The Gal Pals also set up a shopping cart for him to get inside of, thinking it was his boat. The Gal Pals all shook the cart and made him think he was driving. However, the prank went overboard when SpongeBob started rolling down a hill and into traffic, leading to the Gal Pals having to chase him down and save him. After saving him, they realized that these pranks were a little too high-stress for them as well.

Finally, the Gal Pals just went back to Sandy's treedome and shrunk themselves down to molecular size, so that they could just relax, sip come coffee, and tell some jokes among the amoebas.

A CABIN IN THE KELP

The Gal Pals went on a camping trip into the kelp forest. This time, they welcomed Pearl into their group as their official fourth member. Pearl was nervous that the other Gal Pals would try to prank her. As backup, she brought SpongeBob along in her backpack.

PLANKTON: THE MOVIE

The Gal Pals met up for coffee. Sandy asked Karen if she wanted to join her, Mrs. Puff, and Pearl to see a movie. Karen declined, since she had to help Plankton with his latest evil plan. Later, Plankton's selfish behavior and lack of empathy caused an enraged Karen to leave him and upgrade into a high-powered supervillain.

With Mrs. Puff driving the Gal Pals' speedboat, the Gal Pals saved Plankton from the upgraded Karen, just as she was about to destroy him. They brought Plankton to their secret hideout, which is located underneath an abandoned sunken ship.

In their hideout, Mrs. Puff asked Plankton if he could just apologize to Karen. However, he was so selfish that he was unable to say the word "sorry." Pearl jokingly remarked that Plankton needed an empathy chip (the computer chip that Plankton installed inside of Karen to give her empathy). This gave Sandy the idea to place Karen's old empathy chip inside of Plankton.

With the empathy chip inside him, Plankton had an epiphany and realized how much he mistreated Karen over the years. The Gal Pals teamed up with Plankton to help him reach Karen and apologize to her. They found a battle station that the upgraded Karen had created. While Plankton searched for Karen, the Gal Pals battled Karen's split-personality robots.

The Gal Pals used one of their superhero moves called "Batter Up" to fight Karen's robots. Sandy held up Pearl like a baseball bat and launched Mrs. Puff at the robots. Eventually, the Gal Pals successfully beat Karen's robots after Sandy dropped a large anchor on them. This caused the robots to explode, and the Gal Pals celebrated their success with a group high-five.

Fanon

The Gal Pals are a pretty well-received friendship in the fandom. Before the Gal Pals formed their friend group in the series, fans enjoyed the friendly interactions between Karen and Sandy (Karendy). "Salsa Imbecilicus" was a notable example, since the episode involved Karen and Sandy teaming up to save Bikini Bottom after the rest of the city became extremely unintelligent.

The formation of the Gal Pals group has allowed more interaction between the show's female characters. Additionally, with the Gal Pals, the show has made some episodes that pass the Bechdel test. The Gal Pals have also increased interest in ships such as Karendy and SandPuff, which were all part of the overall friend group.
