Gearou is the slash ship between Genos and Garou from the One Punch Man fandom.

Canon

Chapter 30

Genos hears about Garou for the first time during his visit in Bang’s dojo with Saitama. He manages to instantly make Charanko withdraw from his attempt to “teach them to respect” Bang after they declined learning from him. Genos questions Charanko’s status as being Bang’s “best disciple” and does remember hearing that Bang should have had actually a lot of other disciples. Bang then tells him that he once had other disciples until one of them went on a rampage and disabled the other skilled ones. The rest got scared and quit. Saitama asks Bang was this rampaging disciple strong and what was his name, to which Bang answers by telling them his name was Garou, and that he was his best disciple back then, but after what he did, he had to beat him up and expel him from his dojo.

Chapter 82

Genos meets Garou for the first time when he comes blasting to the scene where Garou had managed to defeat several heroes who attempted to deal with him earlier. Glasses, one of the B-Class heroes, managed to send an emergency signal before he lost consciousness to which Genos answered. He moves his arm forward, palm open towards Garou and threatens to eliminate him.

Chapter 83

Garou is now weakened by the heroes from the earlier fight as Genos and him start to exchange blows. Genos keeps up with him easily and Garou feels the threat of Genos’ power and speed. Garou tries to evade Genos’ attacks and as Genos tries to blast an energy beam at Garou again, he uses one of the heroes behind him as a shield so that Genos can’t blast him as it would most likely hit the hero behind the Hero Hunter, and Genos resorts to close combat.

Even though it happens to be Garou’s specialty combat form, it doesn’t help when he is badly injured. Garou gets hit couple times by Genos’ powerful attacks and he notes that he can’t keep up with it if he just uses minimal body movement. He then starts counterattacking with his special technique, repelling Genos’ fists and tries to go for a hit, but Genos dodges it easily and suddenly tries to punch Garou with his arm propelled by a booster integrated into his elbow.

Fearing for the blow, Garou manages to kick the punch in the last second, so it doesn’t hit. He then kicks the arm away, kicking Genos’ neck with his other leg and burying him partly to the ground. And as he isn’t getting up right away, Garou then tries to jump kick him to the ground deeper, but Genos suddenly prepares to shoot a cannon beam from the arm that is buried under the rubble with his head. Garou manages to notice this in the last second and dodges it just before the powerful beam hits him. He then calls Genos an asshole for luring him in, because he let himself be buried on purpose.

Genos gets back up by thrusting himself upwards with turbines built on his back, and starts to observe Garou. He noticed how Garou puts all his focus to evasion and still barely manages to survive, yet still he tries to counterattack every time. Genos then understood why the other heroes had a hard time with Garou.

Exhausted Garou is then in turn looking at Genos and does note that he is very strong, that his strength rivals with Tanktop Master’s strength, and that his speed is no joke. On top of that, Genos uses his heat cannon without hesitation which makes him quite a problem for Garou, in his current state. He then notes that he is starting to lose his vision and his legs are about to give up.

As Garou turns around, as if leaving, Genos tells him to give up, because he can’t escape when his legs are in that state, but Garou is not ready to give up and he starts to remember Watchdog Man’s movement patterns and jumps to action. He runs and jumps on all fours, which surprised Genos. He notes that Garou’s movement patterns changed. Garou then suddenly grabs one of his arms and rips it away, he laughs that he is very good at high-tech machinery, especially at breaking them. His joy is short lived when suddenly the arm moves to grab his neck, startling him, and propelling and slamming him into a nearby giant tree and the arm shoots several wires around the tree, trapping Garou in place.

Genos tells him it’s useless (to do anything). Garou then starts laughing, and comments that he sure has become popular, especially when hero after hero comes after him. Genos only answers that the world is in chaos and public order has been sent into disarray by a malicious monster organization, and while the Hero Association has to work together to overcome this, they don’t really have time to waste “on someone as insignificant” as Garou, and if he understands he should disappear.

This makes Garou angry, and he then tells Genos that if he is so insignificant then he should lend him a hand. He then asks if hunting Genos down will make the world fear him. Genos then shoots a powerful beam at Garou, but he manages to escape it by breaking the tree in half with his legs. As the top of the tree drops down, Genos has to dodge it. Meanwhile Garou rips himself free from the part he was stuck in, because of Genos’ other arm.

Tangling his hair in blood with his hands, Garou then loudly proclaims that the Monster Association is nothing, and all the heroes are no match for him, as he is the strongest monster. He then yells at Genos to let the world know he’s standing right there. Genos’ other arm returns to him and he then only states that there are no monsters there, and is ready to shoot another cannon beam at Garou.

Before he can do that, however, a bunch of Monster Association’s foot soldiers jumps from underground to cover the Hero Hunter. They attack Genos, which surprises Garou. Then another monster comes behind him and tells him who they are and that they are here to help him. Garou is not interested. Though the monster dies instantly by Genos’ hands after it heard the other monsters’ death screams.

Genos is a bit surprised that the Hero Hunter had connections to the Monster Association, and then he says that he no longer lets his guard down again as he learned it from his defeat a day before. He then proclaims that he has also become stronger than he was yesterday. At the same time more monsters appear from the underground. Genos tells Garou that his teacher, Saitama, told him to train his mind and he is now starting to understand what he meant. Garou questions who this Saitama is to which Genos answers that he is the strongest hero as there is no monster who can match him. After that exchange Genos starts to shoot a sudden cannon beam at Garou, but Bang interrupts this by suddenly kicking Garou hard. Bang asks Genos to leave Garou to him, to which he does. Bang’s big brother, Bomb, appears and kills the monster behind Bang.

Chapter 84

When Bang and Garou’s brutal fight starts, Genos observes this and how much skillful Bang is compared to Garou. As the Hero Hunter tries to escape the brutal beating by trying to take one of the unconscious heroes as hostage, Bomb stops him with a kick. And as Bomb and Genos have dealt with the last monsters there, Bomb notes that Garou is the only one left. Genos does pick up some monster activity in the tunnel that was left after the monsters came out from it, but he can’t pinpoint their exact location. Bloodied Garou curses and thinks the Monster Association is useless as they got wiped out so easily. In the meantime, a monster known as Phoenix Man is observing the situation in the air, far enough away so the heroes won’t notice him.

Soon Bang and Bomb together start brutally attack Garou, and he knows he will die if this continues. And even though he would manage to put on an act and beg for them to spare him, he knows the Demon Cyborg (Genos) wouldn’t let him leave, which makes the whole thing impossible for him. As Bang kicks Garou hard to the face, he starts seeing his memories from his childhood flash past his eyes.

Chapter 85

The flashback fuels Garou to push back the onslaught and he suddenly gains the strength to oppose Bang and Bomb, which surprises them and Genos.

Genos notices Phoenix Man approaching them and warns Bang about it, trying to point his palm at the monster and blast him, but Phoenix Man instead uses his massive wings to push them all back with strong wind current. Everyone loses their footing for a minute and Phoenix Man catches Garou from the air, escaping with him. When the heroes get their footing, Genos tries to shoot them down with a massive heat cannon blast, but Phoenix Man calls for Elder Centipede to appear and as the giant centipede comes out, the blast hits him, yet it doesn’t do anything. Garou (reluctantly) manages to escape with Phoenix Man as Genos, Bang and Bomb are left dealing with the centipede.

Chapter 155 (online)

Garou dealt with the Evil Natural Water and Platinum Sperm, saving Genos, King and the rest. However, when Saitama returns with Flashy Flash and Manako and notices that Genos’ arms and legs have been ripped off, he asks was it Garou that did it, pointing at the half-monster in the distance. Genos answers that it wasn’t and tells him it was the enemy cadre he struggled with before. Genos then says that King took care of it (as it was falsely thought that instead of Garou it was King’s special move that did it), however Genos mentions that he does think it’s strange that the energy Garou has seems to be similar with King’s special move, but thinks it may be a malfunction.

Chapter 165 (online)

The “God” entity has managed to push its influence to Garou and turning him into a cosmic monster. He fights against Saitama, and Genos sees part of the fight happening in the clouds where the fighting shadows are seen. Garou eventually manages to create a massive gamma ray burst attack that makes Saitama to fly far enough so he is gone for a while. As Garou drops down right next to the heroes, they start to run away from him as especially the lower-class heroes get scared of him.

Chapter 166 (online)

Unknown to them, Garou emanates a massive amount of radiation which starts to kill them in a minute. The heroes lose consciousness and Bang realizes that something or someone is really controlling Garou. Blast appears and agrees with Bang, though Garou doesn’t seem to listen. Genos then yells at them to move out of his way and propellers past Bang and Blast at Garou, hitting him right in the chest with his head with powerful speed. He says that Blast isn’t the only hero immune to radiation. However, this doesn’t do anything to cosmic form Garou and he just lifts Genos up from his hair, recognizing him. He then realizes whose disciple Genos is.

Blast then attacks Garou, and Garou keeps hold of Genos’ hair until Blast manages to hit a punch to Garou’s face, who then releases his hold on to Genos’ hair. They fight for a while until Garou takes hold of Genos’ hair again and rips his core out of his body, so he could get Saitama to power up fully. This results to Genos’ death.

Chapter 168 (online)

Thanks to Garou’s sacrifice, Saitama manages to travel back in time and defeat the cosmic Garou before he manages to kill the heroes with radiation poisoning, and before Genos loses his life. Genos witnesses how Garou flies with single punch and starts to lose all his powers. In the end future Saitama and current Saitama also merge to become a single being again, losing his memory of the future (as like it never happened).

Chapter 169 (online)

However, Genos learns about the alternate future when he gets a hold of his future self’s core that Saitama was still holding onto. He knows what Garou did to him, and what happened after. In the end of the chapter Genos witnesses how heroes are fighting about should they kill Garou. Thanks to Tareo and King (and Saitama, Bang + Metal Bat), Garou disappears as he runs away, leaving all the heroes surprised. Genos believes he would become a repeat offender, but Saitama answers that he doesn’t believe so.

Fanon

Gearou is a rarepair ship within the One Punch Man fandom. It has gained fans through Genos and Garou’s interactions in the manga and anime. The ship doesn’t have that much fanon content thanks to the characters mostly interacting in hostile way towards each other, however the potential is still there if circumstances were different, and the shippers like to play with the possibilities. It's also a ship that's close to same age so it makes it easier for the fans to have fun with. The Monster Association Arc’s few last chapters did give the shippers a bit more angst to deal with in their stories for this ship.

The ship’s main rival ships are Genosai and Batarou, and it’s part of Shitty Teen Squad fanon friendship.
