Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022)[]

Act of True Love
To a lesser extent. Ghost admits to Soap why he initially abandoned him after Graves’ betrayal: it was force of habit as he’s used to working alone. During “Alone,” Ghost stays in constant contact with Soap and refuses to leave the church until Soap gets there so they’re both able to leave together.
Adaptation Relationship Overhaul
During the original MW2, Soap is higher-ranking than Ghost; being his Captain, while Ghost is his Lieutenant and second-in-command. In MWII, Ghost keeps his rank of Lieutenant, however Soap is lower-rank, being a Sergeant.
Affectionate Nickname
Ghost affectionately refers to Soap as “Johnny,” especially after “Alone”. Ghost is the only person who Soap allows to call him that as well.
Aloof Leader, Affable Subordinate
Ghost is Soap’s superior and he appears rather closed and detached, while Soap is more open and approachable.
Big “Shut Up!”
Their ally, Alejandro, amusingly questions why Ghost is called “Ghost,” leading to Soap saying he believes Ghost prefers to be called something else, however that ‘something else’ is cut off as Ghost loudly interjects himself in, stopping Soap from continuing, saying, “That’ll do!”'
Birds of a Feather
Ghost and Soap are both hardened military men with tragic backstories.
Brooding Boy, Gentle Boy
Ghost is brooding to Soap’s gentle. Given their circumstances, Soap can be very brooding too, but overall he’s softer than Ghost.
Casual Danger Dialogue
Throughout “Alone,” Soap needs to sneak around and make as little noise as possible as he and Ghost are actively being hunted. He and Ghost talk via their radios, a mix of banter and serious.
Fire-Forged Friends
In the beginning of MWII, Ghost and Soap are allies, but Ghost is rather aloof. As the game progresses, Ghost opens up more due to a growing connection with Soap.
First-Name Basis
Soap’s name is John and Ghost is the only person who calls him “Johnny”. He is also the only person who Soap allows to do that. Their ally, Alejandro, says he can’t call Soap “Johnny,” and Soap tells him not to, as Ghost is the only one who “can pull that off”. In addition, Ghost’s name is Simon, and while Soap primarily sticks to calling him “Lt,” he does refer to Ghost by his name once.
Held Gaze
Ghost and Soap communicate through a side-eye glace. Ghost is also well known for his intense stare.
I Can't Do This by Myself
Following Graves’ betrayal, Ghost outright states, “This happened on my watch, and I’ll need help to fix it. No one fights alone.” He says this while looking at Soap.
Morality Pet
Soap is this to Ghost, especially after “Alone”.
Not So Above It All
During “Prison Break,” Soap is directing Ghost through the cameras. Soap gets him to a high position with a guard directly below him. To deal with it, Ghost jumps down on the man and knifing him. It's not like there's a tactical advantage to it over simply shooting the guard. Ghost just wanted to show off in front of Soap.
One Head Taller
Ghost is 6’3” (190cm) and Soap is 5’10” (177cm), the heights of their actors, Samuel Roukin (Ghost) and Neil Ellice (Soap).
Red Oni, Blue Oni
Ghost is the serious, cool-headed, tactical Blue, while Soap is more hot-headed, jovial and energetic Red.
Short Range Guy, Long Range Guy
While Ghost has no issue going short range, he provides long-distance sniper support for Soap on numerous occasions if the mission calls for it.
Snark-to-Snark Combat
Ghost and Soap exchange some witty jabs from time-to-time with each other, more notably during the “Alone” mission.
