GhostSoapKönig is the poly ship between Simon “Ghost” Riley, John “Soap” MacTavish and König from the Call of Duty fandom.
Canon[]
In Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, Ghost, Soap and König appear as Operators, player characters, on opposing sides. Ghost and Soap are on SpecGru, while König is on KorTac. Each of these private military contractors (PMCs) were created following the death of Major Hassan Zyani, who serves as the primary antagonist of the single player campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022). While König does exist in Modern Warfare II, he does not appear nor is he mentioned in the campaign. Due to him being on opposing sides with Ghost and Soap, he and they are enemies.
Fanon[]
GhostSoapKönig is a popular ship within the Call of Duty fandom. Its popularity was slow rising, with few shippers in the beginning. It started out as a joke ship and mostly between Ghost and König, as both men are similar in the fact that they wear masks and are tall in stature. However between Ghost and Soap’s ship rapidly skyrocketing into becoming the fandom’s most popular ship and König becoming a breakout character, fans began to ship them all together.
GhostSoapKönig’s primary popularity was at the hands of a few key figures within the fandom. Twitter/Tumblr user @bluegiragi created a PWP mini-comic about the three men that initially introduced GSK to a wider audience. They also began calling the ship “Soapböx,” as a means of “spreading it around” however they weren’t the one to coin the name. The name “Soapböx” is credited to Tumblr user @whispermask who is the author of a popular GSK fan fiction, titled Gasoline in Your Heart. When GSK had enough works in its AO3 tag to have an official tag, they began calling it “Soapböx”.[1]
Due to the lack of interaction König has with Ghost and Soap in canon, GhostSoapKönig is very heavy in fanon content. Fan works often have König joining Ghost and Soap’s unit, whether officially or as an ally. With Ghost and Soap’s ship being so popular, they’re most often depicted as being in an established relationship, where König is then invited in. In these types of works, Soap is typically the one to show an interest in König (with König also pining for him) where Ghost then follows, forming his own connection/attraction to König, which then leads into a polyamorous relationship. However, in what little canon they do have, König is Ghost and Soap’s enemy. This is less common, though in some fan works König will actively try to hurt them. In these types of works, it’s mainly focused on GhostSoap, with one trying to save the other from König.
On AO3, GhostSoapKönig has 160+ works in its romantic/poly tag, and 2+ in its platonic/general tag.
