Gigolas is the slash ship between Gimli and Legolas from the Middle Earth fandom.
Canon[]
Gimli and Legolas were both summoned to Rivendell after the one ring was discovered. They meet at the council, where Gimli immediately takes a dislike to Legolas and the other elves he brought with. The two joined the Fellowship that would set out to destroy the one ring, starting to become more attached to each other. On their journey they had a contest of who could take out more foes at each battle. Often coming to ties or near them. Legolas became very protective of Gimli, and would threaten harm on anyone who dared speak ill or threaten the dwarf in anyway. As the prepared for the final battle at Gondor, Gimli was in disbelief that he'd ever ride side by side with an elf. Legolas asked if a friend was okay, and Gimli said that it was. After the forces of Sauron were defeated, the two stayed lifelong friends, and went into the Undying Lands near the end of their lives.

Gigolas is one of the most popular ships in the Middle Earth fandom. Shippers tend to be fans of the Enemies to Lovers trope. Given how much the two bicker in the beginning, regarding the bad history between elves and dwarfs. Many fans enjoy watching the two bond and overcome their differences to form a genuine friendship. Even non-shippers enjoy their story as it symbolizes a divided people coming together.
Many shippers like to fill in the blanks of what happened during the journey. As well as deciding when the two ultimately realized their feelings for each other. Many also like their ending where Legolas was able to bring Gimli with him to the Undying Lands, making Gimli the only dwarf to do so.
On AO3, Gigolas is the most written ship for Gimli and Legolas. It is also the sixth most written ship in the TOLKIEN J. R. R. - Works & Related Fandoms tag, the fourth most written in the The Lord of the Rings (Movies) tag and the second most written in the The Lord of the Rings - All Meia Types and The Lord of the Rings - J.
