GingerPilot is the slash ship between Armitage Hux and Poe Dameron from the Star Wars fandom.
Canon[]
Poe and Hux exist on separate sides of the New Galactic Civil War, and thus carry very different ideals. Hux is a general in the First Order, while Poe is a pilot and Commander in Leia Organa's underground paramilitary organization, the Resistance.
During the Battle of D'Qar, Dameron sent an insulting prank transmission to Hux, referring to him as "General Hugs" and implying that he had a scurrilous message about his mother. Dameron acted as though he couldn't hear the First Order transmission, sowing confusion and humiliation in Hux in front of his bridge crew, one of whom had to break it to Hux that he was being 'tooled' (i.e., mocked) by the Resistance pilot.
Dameron then caused even more damage and confusion by taking on a dreadnought-class ship in nothing but a single light fighter. Dodging the ship's weapons, he succeeded in taking out its surface cannons one by one. The ship's commander scrambled TIE Fighters in response rather than obeying Hux's angry orders to blast 'that puny ship.'
When Poe and Finn are later captured on board the Supremacy during an attempt to rescue Chewbacca, General Hux accompanies the prisoners and their Stormtrooper guards to a sequestered part of the ship. Claiming the desire to execute them himself, he takes one of the trooper's blasters and executes the Stormtrooper guards before announcing "I'm the spy." Poe's immediate response: "I knew it!" Hux insists on staying behind in order to continue passing vital intel to the Resistance, and ultimately pays for it with his life.
Because technically, Hux was acting as a spy for the Resistance at the end of the sequel trilogy, this put him and Dameron on the same side, at least in some respects. Hux never believed in the Resistance, instead wanting only to ensure the downfall of Kylo Ren.
Fanon[]
In fanon, many fics have imagined that Poe Dameron was General Hux's long-distance handler while he was spying within the First Order.
Although The Rise of Skywalker shows General Hux being executed at blaster point by Allegiant General Enric Pryde, many fanfics imagine that Hux was wearing body armor under his uniform, and had a loyal subordinate who could jettison his unconscious body over Exegol. From there, he could have been picked up by the victorious Rebellion.
Many fics deal with the aftermath of the war and Hux's status as a notorious war criminal. As the person who destroyed the Hosnian System, he would be one of the most infamous surviving members of the First Order. Even his stint as a spy for the Rebellion would most likely not be enough to sway popular sentiment in his favor. Hux's obvious disdain and contempt for the New Republic would do him no favors in rehabilitating his public image. In contrast, Poe Dameron was a popular war hero and a literal poster boy of the Resistance.
