GingerRose is the het ship between Armitage Hux and Rose Tico from the Star Wars fandom.
Canon[]
Rose and Hux exist on separate sides of the new galactic civil war, and thus carry very different ideals. Hux is a general in the First Order, and a close companion of Kylo Ren. Rose is a mechanic with the Resistance, and becomes close friends with Rey, Kylo Ren's dyad, and Finn, a former Stormtrooper.
During the Battle of D'Qar, Finn and Rose dress as First Order officers and sneak aboard the Supremacy. Hux is one of the commanders of the ship, and is using it to pursue the Resistance fleets. Finn and Rose are eventually captured aboard the ship, and are brought before Hux and Captain Phasma. Rose struggles against her captors when Hux orders the First Order to fire upon the Resistance transports.
In a deleted scene, Rose drops her necklace during her struggle. She goes to pick it up, but Hux steps forward and places his foot on it. He picks the necklace up, and smirks at Rose. He then brings one hand beneath her chin, and taunts her by calling her "vermin". Rose, outraged, bites down on Hux's finger, ferociously grunting and shaking her head back and forth. Hux screams, and a Stormtrooper rush forward to help him. Once Hux's finger is free, Rose spits on the ground. Hux, incensed, orders both Rose and Finn to be executed before storming off.
Hux and Rose do not interact after this moment, although it is important to note that Hux functions as a spy within the First Order prior to his death. Although he does not actually support the Resistance, this technically still puts him and Rose on the same side of the war for a brief period of time.
Fanon[]
GingerRose is a popular pairing in the sequel trilogy fandom. It is often shipped by fans who ship Reylo and Finnpoe, creating an easy pairing off for the major characters from the trilogy. Over half of the GingerRose works on AO3 are also tagged with Reylo. Some see GingerRose as a parallel to Reylo itself, with both ships being enemies-to-lovers between characters in differing sides of a war. Fans who ship Rey with a character other than Kylo may then be drawn to GingerRose as a way to fill that niche.
Other fans prefer the ship simply for the small deleted interaction that is seen in The Last Jedi between Rose and Hux. The release of this deleted scene caused a boom in shipping of the pairing; prior to that, it had been seen as a rarepair without much fan content. Fans enjoyed the ferocity that Rose showed against Hux, while others enjoyed the way that Hux taunted her. The touch under her chin was especially noted by shippers, as the action could be considered romantic or sexual in nature (under different circumstances).
Fanworks for this pairing are ample, and many fans like to throw the characters into AUs. A popular AU involves one of the characters (often Rose) functioning as a double agent and joining the opposing side of the war. They then meet and fall in love, causing the double agent to question their own allegiances.
There are currently over 1500 works on AO3 for this ship. It is Hux's second most popular ship, and Rose's most popular. Its biggest rivals are Kylux and Finnrose.
