GoFushi is the slash ship between Satoru Gojo and Megumi Fushiguro from the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom.

Canon[]

Satoru Gojo and Megumi Fushiguro officially have a teacher/student relationship in Tokyo Jujutsu High and a subtle mentor/mentee relationship throughout the course of the manga. It is revealed bit by bit that they go back a long way, with their history mired in unusual circumstances.

Introduction Arc[]

The series begins with Megumi on the phone with Satoru while he is searching for the cursed object i.e. the finger of Ryomen Sukuna at Sugisawa Municipal High School. Megumi and Satoru banter for some time about the finger being missing from the thermometer shed. Satoru comments playfully, “For real? That’s hilarious.” “No going home until it’s recovered, okay?” to which Megumi threatens to punch him. It is to be noted that Megumi tacks on ‘ましよ’ (rōmaji masiyo) at the end. In simple words, he uses keigo (formal speech) indicating his respectfulness, but reverts back to informal in his head while thinking, “This time, I’m gonna punch you for real.”

GoFushi (anime - 4)

Satoru taking pictures of a roughed up Megumi

In the beginning of chapter 2, Megumi is about to exorcise Yuji as a curse after he swallowed Sukuna's finger, but Gojo appears right behind him. After Megumi asks Gojo why he was here, Gojo replies by telling him that he didn't plan on coming, but saw that Megumi was very roughed up. He proceeds to take out his phone and take pictures of Megumi to show to their second-year students. Here, we find out that Gojo sent Megumi on the mission to find the finger.

When Gojo tells Itadori that he would like to fight Sukuna, he throws a bag of Kikufuku at Megumi, telling him a bit about it. This gets Megumi a little upset, thinking “This guy actually went and bought souvenirs! When people were out here dying!”. Although he didn’t say it out loud, Gojo almost reads his mind, and replies with “It’s not a souvenir!”, and proceeds to tell him more about the souvenir. At this time, Sukuna tries to attack Gojo, and Megumi yells, “Behind you!”. While fighting Sukuna, Gojo says to him, “My student’s watching, so I’m going to show off a little.” After their fight, Gojo knocks out Itadori, then asks Megumi what they should do with him. Megumi tells Gojo that he doesn’t want to let Yuji die, and Gojo asks while smiling, “Personal feelings?”

Satoru calling Megumi a ‘precious student’

Megumi tells him that these are his personal feelings, and that he’d like for Gojo to do something about this. Gojo giggles, then tells Megumi that since it’s a request from a precious student, he’ll have it done. Gojo specifically uses the word ‘かわいい’ (rōmaji kawaii) meaning ‘cute’ or ‘adorable’ in the sentence, which the official viz translation interprets as ‘precious’.

Once Yuji had arrived at his dorm next door to Megumi’s, Megumi asked Gojo why he decided to put Yuji there, since there were multiple other empty rooms. Gojo explains that livelier is better, and that he thought it’d be a good idea. Megumi says that classes and missions are enough social interaction with Yuji for him, and that this was an unwelcome favour.

After the arrival of Nobara Kugisaki, Satoru sends Yuuji alongside her for a mission in an abandoned building In Roppongi, with Megumi waiting outside. While sitting next to each other on the curb, Megumi asks if he could go in too, but Satoru tells him that he still needs to heal. The two of them talk about Yuji and Nobara, and Satoru explains that the two of them are not as experienced with Tokyo curses, unlike Megumi. Once Nobara and Yuji are done fighting, Gojo and Megumi take the child that they found back to his house. Gojo asks them if they’d like to eat, with Nobara and Yuji getting excited saying what they want to eat. Gojo asks Megumi, and Megumi ignores him since he was on his phone. Gojo decides to leave him and walk away with Nobara and Yuji, capturing Megumi’s attention again.

GoFushi Anime 5

Satoru walking alongside a moody Megumi

In the anime adaptation when they’re all heading home, Satoru initially walking beside Yuuji noticeably slows down his pace to get closer to Megumi, who is a few steps behind. Megumi is seem to be a little moody, and Yuji asks what was bothering him. Megumi replies with “Nothing” to avoid speaking about it, but Satoru says that Megumi is pouting since he didn’t get to join in on the fight.

Cursed Womb Arc[]

In episode 4, Yuji asks where Gojo was, since he expected him to be there for their mission. Megumi, being the only one of the three aware of this, tells him that Gojo is out for a business trip, and isn’t someone who should be loafing around the school. There is also a short clip of Gojo saying to Megumi not to expect souvenirs when he's back. In the Jujutsu Stroll of episode 4, Yuji mentions that Megumi always seems annoyed when he’s on the phone. Megumi replies and says that it’s because of Gojo, not the phone, showing that Megumi and Gojo often speak on the phone.

Death Painting Arc[]

In episode 23 while Megumi is in the middle of a battle, we receive a flashback of him training with Gojo. Gojo kicks Megumi to the floor, and says “Okay, I win again”, then proceeds to talk about how unusual it is for Megumi to be training with him, as Megumi rarely asks him. Gojo easily sees through Megumi, and asks if this is because he fears Yuji surpassing him. Megumi gets up, and says that “beggars can’t be choosers”. Gojo asks him if relying on him really bothers Megumi that much. Gojo begins to tell Megumi that both Yuji and him have the same amount of potential, but the problem is Megumi’s mindset. He says to Megumi that he really doesn’t know how to bring out his best, getting Megumi a little irritated. Megumi asks if Gojo thinks he hasn’t been bringing out his best, but Gojo tells him that it’s not that he hasn’t, it’s that he can’t.

GoFushi

Gojo explains to Megumi how to become stronger.

Gojo begins to speak about the baseball game, and how Megumi sacrificed himself to let Nobara pass, but Yuji would go for the home run. He talks about how baseball is a team sport, and that a bunt wouldn’t be bad in that situation, but Jujutsu Sorcery is more like an individual sport. Megumi mentions that coordinating with others is important, and Gojo agrees while walking closer to Megumi, but adds that when you die, you always die alone. He explains that with this mindset, Megumi could forget about Gojo, and that he’ll never even measure up to Nanami. He tells Megumi that dying to win and risking to win are two completely different things, and he flicks Megumi’s forehead. He adds on, “Give it your best. Be greedier.”

Megumi begins to have a flashback of his life, where he talks about a “suspicious white-haired man” who told him more about his father and the Zenin Clan. Gojo tells Young Megumi that his father was saving him as the ultimate card to use against the Zenin Clan. Gojo asks Megumi if all of this pisses him off, and once Megumi found out that he was sold to the Zenin Clan, he thought, “Yeah, it pisses me off. Especially your lack of tact about it”. Megumi adds that Gojo took care of all of his and Tsumiki’s funds, and that the “irritating man” stopped his sale to the Zenins when he was just a kid.

In the Jujutsu Stroll of Episode 23, Yuji runs to Nobara and Gojo to tell them that Megumi is being hit on. The two of them have an immediate response, and Gojo yells, “Formation B!”. After Yuji and Nobara bother Megumi a bit, Gojo shows up, looking his best, saying, “Can you not touch him so casually please, you homewreckers?!” He begins to say that “Megumi-Chan” has violin practice with him now, and asks Megumi to come home with him. He adds that he will have Megumi master “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” today. Megumi looks at Gojo angrily, telling him to stop, and that he was embarrassing him. Gojo begins pointing, in a very odd way, getting Megumi angry.

Gojo's Past Arc[]

During his second year as a student, Gojo aged around 16, along with his classmates Suguru Geto and Shoko Ieiri, take on a mission to retrieve Riko Amanai who is to become Star Plasma Vessel, they have to escort her to Jujutsu High where she could fulfill her sacral role and merge with Tengen, an immortal jujutsu sorcerer who enforces the barriers that protect them. During that mission, they are attacked by Toji Fushiguro, a former member of the Zenin family, infamous assassin known as the Sorcerer Killer, and Megumi's father. While Toji was a non-curse user with no innate talent for jujutsu he was an elite fighter, with innate physical prowess far superior to all others in his path. Gojo and Toji fought twice, the first resulting in Toji believing the other to have died and with him proceeding to assasinate Riko Amanai, and the second, with Gojo overpowering him and injuring him fataly. Up to that point, Toji is shown as an absent figure in Megumi's life, but is revealed to still care about his son's fate as he is on the bridge of death. He decided to tell Gojo that Megumi would be sold into the Zenin family in a few years, and to do with that information as he pleases.

This event, and a culmination of other factors, lead to Gojo and Geto splitting ways, with Geto choosing to stray from the path of humanity, starting his own fight for the world free of non-sorcerers and subsequently curses born from human vices. This leads to Gojo feeling powerless when it comes to saving others who do not want to be saved, and he begins his search of finding more strong allies that can help him rebuild their society.

Sometime later, Gojo meets with a young Megumi Fushiguro, and is immediatly despleased at how similar the younger looks with his father. He brings up the jujutsu world and the Zenin clan, explaining how his father would've sold him to them for monetary profit. Gojo is about to reveal to him that he has killed his father when Megumi interrupts him and says that he doesn't care about his dad anymore since he hasn't been around for a while, same as Tsumiki's, his half sister's, mother. Gojo is surprised by his cold words and reaction, and even asks him if he really is a first grader. He gives up and tells Megumi to just ask him if he wants to know anything more about his dad. He then asks if he wants to go to the Zenin family, to which Megumi says that his answer will depend if his sister will be happy if they go. Gojo tells Megumi that he can never guarantee that, to which Megumi glares at, prompting the other to laugh and pat his head, saying that he will take care of things, and that Megumi should focus on getting strong from now on, and not get left behind. It is implied that Megumi is the start of Gojo's search for new strong allies.

The arc ends on October 19th of 2018, Gojo being woken up by his students after seemingly dreaming and remembering his past. Megumi chastises him for dozing off when he was the one who called them in the first place. Gojo lifts his blindfold and looks up at them with a smiling expression. In the next panel he is shown to be standing, as Nobara and Yuji take his seat, but he is still looking and smiling at Megumi, who notices and questions him about it. He dismisses the question saying it's nothing.

Shibuya Incident Arc[]

On October 31 an alliance between cursed spirits and curse users, forged by Mahito and Pseudo-Geto finally makes their move with the purpose of sealing Gojo inside a cursed object called Prison Realm. Megumi is with Nanami and Takuma at the Tokyo Metro, Shibuya Station near exit 13 as they are informed about the situation. When Yuji announces that Gojo had been sealed, Megumi along with Takuma and Nanami head to Yuji's location. They come up with a plan to deal with the situation, but it ends up with Megumi far away from the others. Megumi has a brief run-in with his own father, as a spirit channeled by another sorcerer, that ends up with Toji taking his own life to not be used as a weapon against his son. He seems relieved to find that Megumi kept the surname Fushiguro, while Megumi remains ignorant of his identity.

Some time after that Megumi gets attacked by Haruta Shigemo. Megumi retreats, and comments on how to obtain more shikigami for the Ten Shadows Technique. Megumi collapses and states how it's pointless to have multiple shamans exorcise the shikigami since it would nullify the technique, but says that the pointless exorcism does have its uses. He recalls some time in the past where he had visited Gojo, seamingly at his estate.

Gojo asks him if he knows why the Gojo and the Zenin families are on bad terms. Megumi questions back if they had always been on bad terms, and Gojo replies "the worst". According to Gojo's narration, some time ago, either during the Edo or the Keicho period, the heads of their respective households killed each other in a fight before the aristocracy. Megumi asks who were the heads, and Gojo reveals, that it was a Limitless cursed technique user with the Six Eyes, like him, for the Gojo family, and a Ten Shadows technique user, like Megumi, for the Zenin family. Megumi looks shocked at the information. Gojo asks Megumi if he realises what this means, alluding that, their techniques are each other's natural weaknesses.

Back in his fight with Haruta, Megumi seemingly replies to Gojo in his memory, saying that this doesn't mean that he can become as strong as him. He ends up summoning a shikigami so strong no Ten Shadow curse user had been able to excorsise before, called Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga. He also realises that this must've been what the head of the Zenin clan must've done too back then.

Fanon[]

GoFushi is a large ship in the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom, but it is more popular in the Eastern fandom spaces (Japanese, Korean, Chinese etc…) rather than the Western fandom.

The Western fandom isn't very accepting of this ship due to Satoru and Megumi's age gap, preferring ships like SatoSugu and ItaFushi instead. This side of the fandom prefers this ship platonically, and like to think of the two of them as a father/son or having a brotherly bond, as they've known each other for a very long time. Fanart explores the idea of Gojo raising Megumi with his half sister, Tsumiki Fushiguro (when they were both children) or teasing him, due to the nature of their relationship using canon interpretation. But even those who are fans of these characters (note, 99% of people who says this doesn't ship the two romantically) find Gojo being a father figure or even a brother figure to Megumi (and Tsumiki) especially with the headcanon of Megumi viewing Gojo as a father be such a huge stretch and glaringly out of character for Gojo and Megumi instead it's said they have more of a Mentor Figure type of relationship rather than a Family Figure view on each other, even paired with calling Gojo also being the rich distant uncle.

The Eastern side of fandom is more accepting with this ship, and it's placed as the second largest pairing in the series following GoYuu. This side that ships them romantically often enjoys the idea of Gojo being Megumi's guardian, or attempts at that, but with them slowly developing feelings as time passes, in Megumi's case as a secret inconvenient crush. Another widely used idea is Megumi being Gojo's new start, years after his falling out with Geto, giving him a second chance at happiness.

It currently holds more than 3,646 works on Archive Of Our Own as a slash pairing, and over 2,091 works that focus on a more platonic approach to them.
