Gokumatsu is the het ship between Gonta Gokuhara and Kaede Akamatsu from the Danganronpa fandom.
Canon[]
Gonta and Kaede are both characters from Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. They first meet outside of the school, when Kaede and Shuichi Saihara are making their introductions to everyone. On first glance, Kaede believes that Gonta looks scary. However, she quickly realizes that he is kind-hearted, and apologizes for jumping to conclusions based on his appearance. She also tells Gonta that his name is "cute", which causes him to blush. Kaede decides to keep her distaste for bugs a secret from Gonta, after seeing the anger he reflects at Shuichi for the same thoughts.
Kaede later encourages Gonta and the others to attempt the Death Road of Despair. He seems to take well to her motivation, and continues trying to escape despite becoming exhausted. During the first class trial, suspicion turns on Gonta when it is revealed that he was alone in the AV room. However Kaede comes to his defense, and explains how it would have been impossible for him to kill Rantaro. When it is finally revealed that Kaede is the murderer, Gonta this time comes to her defense. He joins Kaito Momota and Tenko Chabashira, and the three of them stand between Kaede and the exisals. Gonta declares that he became strong for moments just like this. Gonta mourns with the rest of the class when Kaede inevitably allows herself to be punished.
Gonta and Kaede do not share any interactions in the non-canonical Ultimate Talent Development Plan. In Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp, Kaede thanks Gonta for setting up the volley ball net for their class beach day.
Free Time Events[]
In the first FTE, Gonta asks Kaede about her love of music. He tells her that his favourite music is "bug songs", which seems to disgust Kaede as she does not want to talk about insects. Kaede tries to change the subject, and mentions that music can change the mood. Gonta agrees, and talks about falling asleep to music. However, he inadvertently reveals that he sleeps naked, which shocks Kaede. She tells him that sleeping naked isn't very gentlemanly, which in turn shocks Gonta. He asks if there's any other advice that Kaede has about being a gentleman, and she recommends drinking tea.
In the second FTE, Gonta approaches Kaede and asks for her "paw". At first she is confused, but quickly realizes that Gonta meant to ask for her hand. He explains that Kaede is a lady, and so to properly escort her somewhere he needs to take her hand. Gonta nervously asks for Kaede's hand, and she offers it to him. Gonta calls her amazing, and Kaede notes that his eyes are "practically sparkling". However, Gonta then admits that he doesn't know what to do now that he is holding her hand. He suggests dancing, but Kaede says that it's not the time. Gonta apologizes, telling Kaede he doesn't know hot to treat her like a gentleman. Kaede reassures Gonta, telling him that she feels comfort just from simply holding his hand. She feels protected by his large form, and suggests that protecting ladies is a very important part of being a gentleman. Gonta smiles, and tells Kaede that her words have given him courage.
Fanon[]
Gokumatsu is a rarepair in the Danganronpa fandom. It is the least popular shipping options for Kaede, when compared to the rest of the characters from V3. Some people dislike the ship because they don't see Kaede as having any real respect or interest in Gonta, especially when compared to his Free Time Events with Shuichi. Shippers, however, see potential in a growing relationship between the two. They often like the idea of Kaede ending up with a "gentleman" who will respect her and treat her right.
