First appearing as Dippy Dawg in the 1932 Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey's Revue, Goofy is a hopelessly clumsy and dim-witted goof and one of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck's close friends. After proving to be a hit with theater audiences, he went on to star in his own series of shorts starting in 1939. He also has a son named Max Goof, and their relationship is explored in the animated series Goof Troop, as well as in A Goofy Movie and its sequel An Extremely Goofy Movie, all of which are among Goofy's most notable roles.
