- Rudo… put aside those thoughts about getting stronger and needing to live up to expectations for just a second. There must be something you’ve always wanted to do. What is it?
- —Gris
Grudo is the friendship between Gris Rubion and Rudo Surebrec from the Gachiakuta fandom.
Canon[]
Meeting Gris[]
Rudo is first introduced to Gris during his observation trip. When Rudo asks Riyo who they are, she explains that Gris and the others are Supporters. They are individuals who assist the Cleaners. Gris looks at Rudo and is the first among the Supporters to approach him. Gris with a friendly expression, extends his hand to Rudo and says, “Nice to meet you.” Rudo, slightly taken aback by his directness, tries to respond but before he can say anything further, Gris firmly grabs his hand for a handshake. Rudo is caught off guard by Gris’s overwhelming strength, not realizing just how powerful his grip truly is.
Gris holds his hand out to Rudo
During a battle with the trash beasts, Gris explains Riyo’s vital instrument to Rudo and reminds him that even if he is only there to observe, he shouldn’t just stand around. He notices that Rudo is unaware of the danger behind him. Just as a trash beast tries to attack Rudo from behind, Gris steps in and punches it saving him. After the fight, Gris thanks both Rudo and Riyo for saving Follo.
Words Of Encouragement[]
Gris saves Rudo from falling
Later on, a massive Trash Beast attacks and shatters the ground beneath everyone. As Rudo begins to fall when the ground crumbles, he spirals into self doubt. He is thinking about how he is only slowing everyone down, how he can’t even use his powers, and questioning what he’s even good for. Just before he falls, Gris grabs his hands and pulls him back to safety. For a brief moment, Rudo snaps out it. Gris looks at him, then lifts him over his shoulders and starts running from the Trash Beast. While carrying him, Gris gives him words of encouragement. He tells Rudo not to give up before reaching his goal and to keep watching and learning from the Cleaners and Supporters. Eventually, Riyo defeats the giant Trash Beast. Gris is seen no longer running. He is still holding Rudo over his shoulder wondering if the battle is finally over.
Rudo sits alone at his welcome party, looking sad. Gris pulls up a chair beside him and says, “We haven’t talked since yesterday.” He hasn’t properly introduced himself to him yet, Gris tells Rudo his name. Rudo replies with his own, but Gris simply says, “I know.” Gris goes on to tell Rudo he did well during the Trash Beast incident. But Rudo quietly responds, “I didn’t do anything.” Gris reminds him that he saved Follo. Rudo admits he couldn’t use his powers when it mattered and needed Gris and Riyo to save him. He says it felt no different from what happened in the Sphere with Regto. Rudo begins to break down, expressing his frustration and self doubt in himself again.
Gris asks Rudo what he wants to do
He says he hasn’t changed at all, he still needed to be rescued, just like before and feels like he failed to live up to everyone’s expectations. Before he can doubt himself further, Gris interrupts him saying he actually wanted to thank him which leaves Rudo surprised. Gris explains that many people even among the Cleaners tend to look down on Supporters, seeing them as nothing more than baggage. But Rudo proved he was different. Gris encourages him not to obsess over getting stronger and needing to meet others’ expectations. Instead, he tells Rudo to ask himself what he truly wants to do. As Rudo quietly reflects, Gris tells him to go back to the beginning and says that by doing that, he’ll know what to do next.
Gris pats Rudo's head
He smiles warmly while patting Rudo’s head, and says, “Have faith in yourself.” Gris brings up how the Sphereites dropped Rudo, yet he is still alive and that has to mean something. Rudo begins to tear up. Later, Gris tells Rudo to come get food with him.
Someone Worth Saving[]
When Semiu explains the mission to everyone, Gris notices Rudo quietly thinking to himself and realizes he must be conflicted about the mission’s connection to him being a Sphereite. Gris tells him it is up to him to make the decision for himself. After a moment, Rudo chooses to go and Gris responds with a smile, proud of his choice. While walking out for their mission, Rudo wonders aloud if Gris carries a weapon. Gris replies that he does carry one for self defense, but he usually prefers to fight barehanded. At that moment, Follo leans in and tells Rudo that Gris carries a lucky charm, explaining that he prays to it before every job so that everyone can return safely. Gris embarrassed, quickly tells Follo to shut up. Rudo thinks to himself that Gris is a good guy.
Gris steps in to protect Rudo
During the mission, Gris and Rudo try to escape with the other Cleaners together after being confronted by two Raiders. Rudo looks back wondering about them and bumps into Gris. The group found an emergency exit. Gris thought Zanka was coming up from the shadows not knowing it was Jabber. Gris asks who is he but he immediately goes for exit to block it taking note of Rudo. Gris and Follo try to stop Jabber from taking Rudo, stepping in to protect him. After Follo is struck down, Gris immediately places himself in front of Rudo, shielding him. He declares that he will protect his team including Rudo and keep them safe. Rudo pleads with Gris, telling him he doesn’t need to defend him and that he can’t fight someone like Jabber barehanded. As Rudo begins to question why Gris isn’t moving, Jabber coldly reveals that Gris is dead by his claws. Rudo is left stunned, watching helplessly. Seeing Gris injured reminds him of Regto’s death.
When Rudo activates his powers through Gris’s lucky charm, he thanks Gris for helping him remember what he truly wants. Rudo admits that if Gris hadn’t asked him that simple but important question about what he really wanted to do he’d probably still be stuck in self pity and anger. Despite being injured, Gris thinks to himself he doesn’t have to worry about Rudo anymore. He points out that the reason he couldn’t use his powers before was likely because his emotions were clouding everything. Rudo suddenly strikes Jabber with a powerful punch one that catches even Jabber off guard. Rudo firmly declares that the punch is Gris’s favorite weapon. After defeating Jabber with Zanka, Gris’s lucky charm disappears leaving Rudo trembling. He says it meant so much to Gris and it is all his fault it disappears. After being kidnapped by Jabber, Rudo tells him before he leaves that he’ll get payback for what he did to Gris a thousand times over.
Good Job, Rudo[]
Rudo sees Gris injured
In the aftermath of the battle, Rudo is visibly anxious when he finally sees a injured Gris. Rudo overcome with guilt confesses that he accidentally broke his lucky charm. Gris tells him and smiles :
- “That charm… really meant a lot to me…And if you were able to get some use out of it… then I’m really glad to hear it. You did good… Rudo.”
Later, Rudo is sad because of the situation with Gris. He confides in Enjin about how he feels thinking he was dead. Enjin explains that Gris chose to protect him not because he’s a Sphereite, but because he sees him as a true team member. When going into a room, Rudo is stunned to find Gris alive and recovering in a bed. Everybody jokes around about the situation.
Rudo finds out Gris is alive
Gris takes a moment to thank Eishia, Follo, and finally Rudo. Gris praises him, saying he did a good job. As for the broken lucky charm, Gris tells him not to worry he is glad it could help someone. He explains that’s how he finds worth in things when the things he cares about are able to help others. Rudo stands silently, but is visibly relieved and happy to see Gris alive.

Fanon[]
Fans love that Gris played a role in Rudo’s early character development especially in helping him grow into his identity as a Giver. Their friendship was the main focus of the Raiders Trap Arc, with Gris not only encouraging Rudo to keep going and not give up on his goals but also reminding him of the people he’s helped, like Follo. Even though their interactions become less frequent in later arcs, fans still view Gris as a father or older brother figure to Rudo. Their friendship remains a fan favorite in the fandom due to Gris’s protective nature, steady guidance, and the emotional support he provided to Rudo. Many fans are hoping that Gris won’t be killed off later in the series, fearing it would mirror Rudo’s past trauma with Regto and emotionally devastate him.

Trivia[]
- Rudo calls Gris a softie after learning about his lucky charm in the English dub.
- The English dub and the original version of the scene where Gris and Rudo are running away together in episode five have a notable difference. In the English dub, Gris tells Rudo he doesn't want to wait around with him because of the bandits, which causes Rudo to feel self doubt about himself. In the original, the dialogue is instead about Gris wanting to get away from the bandits together and being unsure of the bandits' powers.
- They both have summer birthdays with Gris in June while Rudo is in July.
