Gwuncney is the poly ship between Gwen, Duncan, and Courtney from the Total Drama fandom.
Canon[]
Overview[]
Courtney and Gwen first became enemies in "Dodgebrawl", when Courtney flung mashed potatoes at Heather, missed and hit Gwen. Because Courtney refused to apologize for her mistake, Gwen pelted her with dodgeballs later on and thus, began their everlasting rivalry. In "Basic Straining", Courtney started dating Duncan, who she had a love-hate relationship with. In "I See London ...", Courtney and Gwen became friends over their shared hatred of Heather as they tortured her on a medieval rack. However, their friendship was short-lived, as at the end of the same episode, Gwen made out with Duncan. In the very next episode, "Greece's Pieces", Courtney found out and declared war on Gwen for stealing her boyfriend. Thus began the infamous love triangle between the three of them. Courtney rightfully hated both Duncan and Gwen, being betrayed by them both. Duncan made it clear that despite never breaking up with her, he was done with Courtney. Gwen, on the other hand, regretted her decision on account of how she ruined her relationship with Courtney. However, she was conflicted, as she still loved Duncan, and continued to happily pursue her unethical relationship with him. When the trio returned for All-Stars in "Heroes vs. Villains", Courtney had completely forgotten about Duncan and shut him (and Gwen) out. Gwen tried and failed several times to make it up to Courtney and become her friend again but Courtney did not reciprocate her peace treaties. Courtney's cold shoulder also made Duncan obsess over getting her attention. He basically turned his relationship with Gwen into a ploy to get Courtney to respond to him, which made Gwen mad. In "Moon Madness", Gwen broke up with Duncan because he was more focused on Courtney than herself. In "Suckers Punched", Courtney and Gwen fought out their problems with each other and finally moved on past Duncan and they became friends. However, in "Sundae, Bloody, Sundae", Courtney had a list that showed her plan to get Gwen eliminated so that she could win. Gwen felt betrayed by Courtney and unfriended her and later had her eliminated. With that, all three parties had split up from each other and moved on with life.
Fanon[]
Fascinated by the love triangle between the three characters and dissatisfied with how badly it ended for all three of them, fans have come up with an alternate ending to the trio's story arc, where there's a happy ending for all of them. Instead of them all fighting and getting into this huge war, Duncan, Gwen, and Courtney would instead make up and get into a polyamorous relationship. While there is a divide in the fanbase over Gwuncan vs. Duncney, a compromise that people can come up with is this poly ship here. Another compromise people made is that none of them go out with each other and instead, they all just become friends. No matter how you roll the nice, most fans of these three characters just want things to end nicely for them, whether it's romantic or platonic.
