DuckTales (1987)[]
In the original DuckTales animated series, Webby is the granddaughter of Scrooge McDuck's housekeeper Mrs. Beakley, both of them joining the McDuck household in "Three Ducks of the Condor." As Mrs. Beakley was hired in particular to help Scrooge take care of Huey, Dewey, and Louie-his great-nephews-Webby was initially and often seen as an unwelcome addition to their group dynamic by the boys themselves. However, the boys also came to appreciate her presence and regard her as a genuine friend. Webby, for her part, enjoys spending time with the boys, and can be feisty enough to contend with all three triplets when the mood strikes her.

In the reboot series, it is Scrooge's great-nephews who surprise Webby by joining his household, which Webby and Mrs. Beakley have been part of for as far back as Webby can remember, in "Woo-oo!" Webby initially mistakes the trio for operatives of one of Scrooge's various enemies, but upon hearing one of them refer to "Uncle Scrooge" realizes who they are and is thrilled to make their acquaintance. Though somewhat weirded out by Webby and initially skeptical of her claims regarding their family, the boys are quick to warm up to her in turn. In addition to going on adventures together, the boys also help the highly sheltered Webby navigate the social challenges of the world outside McDuck Manor.
Throughout the series, Webby's relationship with the triplets continues to improve, and she is often involved in activities and adventures with some or all of the group. Indeed, Webby remains with the three brothers even in moments when, for one reason or another, they are apart from Uncle Scrooge or others. In "Moonvasion!", the group are seen as younger parallels to the group of Donald and Della Duck and their cousins Fethry Duck and Gladstone Gander. How appropriate this is, however, isn't truly seen until the series finale "The Last Adventure!"
In the course of this escapade, Webby is inexplicably the member of the friend group to recover a magical artifact that could only be retrieved by Scrooge's rightful heir. As a result of learning this, and speaking with Ludwig von Drake, the boys thus learn that Webby is actually Scrooge's biological daughter created by the villainous organization F.O.W.L. Though initially stunned by the revelation, the boys readily accept it as simply a clarification of the bond they've already built with their newly revealed cousin. When Webby later refers to Scrooge as "Dad" and he questions the address, all three triplets all give Scrooge nods of confirmation as he too realizes Webby's true place in their family.

HDLW is a key feature in both incarnations of DuckTales, though depicted quite differently in each. In the original series, Webby was something of a cross between beloved but aggravating sister and tagalong friend to the nephews, though with no actual blood ties. In the reboot, their relationship is generally much more positive, with creator Frank Angones noting that Webby saw herself essentially as "the fourth triplet" and the boys' attitudes seeming to reflect this acceptance. Despite the implied familial nature of their relationship, each of the nephews was considered by various fans as a possible future romantic partner for Webby up until the revelation that in this continuity they are actually close relatives.
