Half-Blood Trio is the friendship between Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood from the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles fandom.

Annabeth and Grover first meet when Annabeth is seven years old. On the run from monsters, alongside Luke Castellan and Thalia Grace, they are found by Grover, a satyr from Camp Half-Blood. He tries to lead the trio towards safety at the camp, but they are followed by a hoard of monsters. Thalia sacrifices herself, ensuring safety for Luke, Grover, and Annabeth. Grover and Annabeth both feel responsible for Thalia's sacrifice, a guilt they each carry with them.

Grover and Percy first meet at Yancy Academy. Grover has been sent to protect Percy as he comes into his power as a demigod. He manages to successfully lead Percy to Camp Half-Blood, but is knocked unconscious by a rampaging minotaur. Percy slays the minotaur, and drags Grover's unconscious body into the safety of Camp Half-Blood. Percy faints and is brought to the infirmary, where he meets Annabeth for the first time. She helps nurse him back to health, but rather than being amazed by his defeat of the minotaur she seems unimpressed.

Percy, Annabeth, and Grover set out on a quest together to recover Zeus' master bolt.

Percy and Grover are classmates at Yancy Academy, but after the fight with Nancy Bobofit, Grover seemingly turns against Percy by blaming him for Nancy ending up in the fountain. Percy takes this betrayal particularly hard, as he thought Grover was his closest friend. Later, Grover tries to explain that he did what he did because he knew Percy was no longer safe at Yancy. Still, Percy finds it difficult to trust him. This fissure between them only widens when Grover learns that Percy's mother isn't dead, but rather is being kept in the Underworld by Hades. Chiron and Mr. D swear Grover to secrecy, but he admits the truth to Percy after a few days. This convinces Percy to agree to the quest provided to him by the Oracle, on which he invites Grover and Annabeth to join him.

When Annabeth and Percy continue to argue with each other on the quest, Grover tries to diffuse the tension by singing them the "consensus song". They both stare at him with looks of bewilderment, which manages to calm them down momentarily. After being attacked by Alecto on a Greyhound bus, the trio find their way to Auntie Em's Garden Gnome Emporium. Alecto follows them and calls out to Annabeth, reminding her of the "offer" she'd made. Auntie Em, otherwise known as Medusa, comes out and scares Alecto away from harming the kids. She invites the trio inside, and explains her story over lunch. Percy shows sympathy to her, but Annabeth is staunchly against trusting her. Medusa pulls Percy aside and offers to free his mother from the Underworld in exchange for his friends. Percy, instead, finds Annabeth and Grover and runs from Medusa.

The trio work together to defeat Medusa, using Annabeth's magic cap, Luke's flying shoes (worn by Grover), and Percy's sword to behead the monster. Once the threat is vanquished, Grover asks why Percy has been acting on edge all day. He breaks down and explains that the prophecy told him he would be betrayed by a friend on this quest. He explains that he chose Grover for the quest because he thought Grover would always be on his side. He chose Annabeth for the quest because he could never see them becoming friends in the first place. Annabeth appears hurt by this comment. When Percy asks her what Alecto's "offer" was, Annabeth explains that she tried to convince Annabeth to give up Percy so she and Grover could escape with their lives. Percy then admits to the offer Medusa made him, which he also turned down.

Trials of Apollo

Grover, Annabeth, and Percy make sporadic appearances in this series, but do not appear together. The trio go on a road trip out to California in preparation for Annabeth and Percy starting college in New Rome.

Fanon

The Half-Blood Trio is a beloved friendship in the Camp Half-Blood fandom. Many fans draw parallels between this friendship and the Golden Trio friendship from the Harry Potter fandom. Much like the Golden Trio, this ship is comprised of one romantic relationship (Percabeth) and two very strong platonic relationships. Unlike the Golden Trio, there are very few, if any, ship wars when it comes to the Half-Blood Trio. Fans like the strong friendship bonds between Grover and Percy, and Grover and Annabeth, and it is not popular to ship them romantically.

The Half-Blood Trio dropped somewhat in popularity following the end of the Percy Jackson pentalogy. The Heroes of Olympus series put The Seven (HOO) into the spotlight, and greatly reduced Grover's role. The Trials of Apollo series reduced all three of their roles even further, with Grover appearing in one book and Percy and Annabeth only making cameos. Some fans prefer the relationship of The Seven over the Half-Blood Trio, while others prefer to sub in fan favourite Nico di Angelo into the group in place of Grover. Still, the Half-Blood Trio is the core group of the original five novels, and is deeply loved by most fans.
