Hampdenprice is the het ship between Eliot Hampden and Chloe Price from the Life is Strange fandom.
Canon[]
Life is Strange: Before the Storm[]
Chloe has known Eliot since kindergarten. Sometime after Chloe’s father, William Price, died in a car accident back 2008, she and Eliot hooked up “a few times,” as the two of them have “have history but no chemistry or drama”. Chloe states that Eliot as a person “is pretty not terrible,” but “there wasn’t really much to [their hook ups]”. She also confides that she doesn’t get where Eliot’s coming from most of the time. He’s asks to do stuff with her, which Chloe does find to be nice, however she’s not sure that they have much in common as they once did. She finds it difficult if Eliot wants to be genuine friends with her or just wants to get into her pants. Chloe believes she should be flattered at his interest in her, but also she’s not sure how much she truly cares.
Episode 1: Awake[]
On Blackwell Academy’s front grounds, Eliot spots Chloe as she walks past him while he’s looking at a school textbook. He calls out to her, leading to Chloe turning around and greeting him. Eliot takes notice of Chloe’s blacken eye, asking if she needs to see the school’s nurse. Chloe jokes that “he should see the other guys,” leading to Eliot commenting that he “guesses it’s true then,” stating that he heard people talking about the previous night that Chloe had at the Firewalk concert held at the old mill. Eliot soon changes the subject to asking Chloe to the school’s theater play performing the next night – The Tempest. Player choice, Chloe can accept the invitation or decline. Should she accept, Chloe’s more or less under the impression that this is a fun hang out session to “make fun of the drama kids.” Whatever the player chooses – accept or decline – Eliot is a bit disappointed as Chloe doesn’t see this as date. Chloe ends their conversation by saying she’ll see him in chemistry class.
Later that day however, Chloe misses class and school all together as she spends the entire day with Rachel Amber when Rachel decides to ditch school herself, bringing Chloe along with her. Eliot texts Chloe, asking why she wasn’t in chemistry, along with mentioning the confrontation she had with Drew North earlier that day as well. Chloe texts back that they’ll talk later, leading to Eliot backing off for the remainder of the day.
Episode 2: Brave New World[]
The following morning, Eliot is surprised, though pleased, to see Chloe as she’s walking through the Blackwell parking lot. Chloe informs him that from her yesterday antics with Rachel, she’s been either suspended or expelled from Blackwell. Eliot voices his shock, with Chloe agreeing that she’s “surprised it took this long too.” Seeing how Chloe might be upset at this news, he asks her if she’d like a hug. Player choice, Chloe can accept or decline. Considering it’s Saturday morning, Chloe asks what he’s doing at school, leading to Eliot telling her he’s buying two tickets to The Tempest. Depending if Chloe agreed to see the play with him, he’s buying the tickets for them both; if Chloe declined, he invites her then to join him in attending. He also asks her if she’d like to hang out after the show. Chloe doesn’t give a definite answer, leaving Eliot slightly upset, though he says nothing.
Thought out the episode, whether Chloe was suspended or expelled, Eliot texts her not to worry about it.
Later in the day, Chloe agrees to a job by Frank Bowers to locate and take back money owed to him and his boss from Drew, one of their sellers. Chloe steps back onto Blackwell property where after having gotten past the school’s janitor and the school’s security guard, she enters into the boy’s dormitories. She notices Eliot’s door is ajar with no Eliot inside. Player choice, Chloe can walk in and look around the room. She can find notes and drawings about her, being surprised by that fact. She can also find a photo of her and Eliot from a party they attended in the past. While looking through his computer, Chloe can see his search history which consists of different variations of her name.
That night, The Tempest is premiering, however Chloe wants to see Rachel, who’s performing in the play. Depending whether Chloe accepted Eliot’s invitation, he’ll text her once she reads the script for the scenes she’s performing in since earlier Rachel signed Chloe up as the replacement actor for Ariel. Eliot will ask her where she is and that he got seats for them.
Episode 3: Hell is Empty[]
The following day, Chloe visits Rachel (and Mikey North) who’s recovering in the hospital. Just as Chloe’s leaving, she runs into Eliot who’s visiting Mikey or Mikey’s brother, Drew. Upon learning that Rachel is in the hospital too, Eliot grows increasingly suspicious when he learns that’s why Chloe is there. Depending if Chloe wrote on Eliot’s personal dormitory whiteboard, he’ll bring that up and ask her about it, commenting that he “recognized her handwriting.” With her mission for Rachel in mind, Chloe leaves and as she does, Eliot watches her carefully.
In order to help Rachel locate her mother, Chloe breaks into the Amber house and goes through James Amber’s office. While there, Eliot calls out to her, surprising Chloe that he followed her. Eliot asks what’s she’s doing there, as they’re in Rachel’s house. Chloe realizes something’s amiss, her inner monologue asking if Eliot just followed her there. Chloe tells him he’s “acting crazy” for being there. It’s there Eliot notices the deck of crash Chloe intends to give to the drug dealer for Rachel’s mother. Both Chloe and Eliot go to grab it, with Eliot being the one. Chloe asks him to put the money down, as he has no idea what’s he’s dealing with. Eliot sighs, commenting if she does either. Chloe insists that Eliot wouldn’t understand. Eliot asks for a chance, wanting to know what she’s doing and the trouble she’s gotten herself into. Eliot voices his frustration that he’s sick of Chloe “not seeing who Rachel really is”. Eliot attempts to make Chloe see how during her and Rachel’s relationship, Rachel is always the one who ends up okay, while Chloe is the one who ends taking the harder fall, the one who gets into the most trouble. Chloe tells him to be quite, but Eliot states that he’s “been quite long enough”. He goes off to say how Rachel is fake, while Chloe is real. He lists the trouble Chloe has gotten into by befriending Rachel, ending with him saying how he cares for Chloe, not Rachel. With Eliot blocking the door, and seeing how she can’t get out of the situation on her own, Chloe stealthy calls the police, entering into a backtalk challenge. Eliot proclaims how after Max Caulfield left, when Chloe’s father died – no else cared for Chloe expect for him, also saying how “they have a lot to talk about”.
Should Chloe win the challenge, Eliot is none the wiser to her secret call to the police. Believing Chloe agrees he’s right. Eliot goes in for a hug against Chloe’s will, claiming that “he’ll always be there for her”. When the police arrive, Eliot says he’ll talk to them. Forgetting he set the office alarm earlier, he triggers it while opening the door. Seeing as he’s distracted, Chloe grabs the money and rushes out, leaving Eliot to be apprehended by the police.
Should Chloe fail the challenge, Eliot notices the cell phone Chloe used to call the police. He calls her a bitch, claiming he was only trying to help her. He begins to walk toward her, forcing Chloe to threaten defending herself with a handheld trophy as a weapon. This further angers Eliot, seeing how Chloe would hurt him to protect Rachel. Chloe throws the trophy at a window, shattering it, triggering the office alarm Eliot had set when he locked himself and Chloe in. Chloe calls him a “dickbag,” telling him to run as the police will there any minute. Chloe leaves with the money, and Eliot rushes to leave as well.

Fanon[]
Hampdenprice is a ship with a sour reputation within the Life is Strange fandom. Eliot is often considered Before the Storm’s Warren Graham – a boy with a canon crush on the female lead whom some people view as creepy. Surprisingly enough, the game’s 2021 statistics show that more people chose to be friendly with Eliot, rather than dismissive of him. However, in the third and final episode, Eliot shows his true nature to Chloe that turns most people off of him in the end.
Nevertheless, Eliot/Hampdenprice does have it’s supporters. Some fans do see Eliot’s actions as caring for Chloe and having her best interests in mind.
On AO3, Hampdenprice has 5+ works in its romantic/het tag, and has none in its platonic/general tag.
