HanaChie is the het ship between Yosuke Hanamura and Chie Satonaka from the Persona fandom.
Canon[]
They have a neutral friendship with each other since they are both in the same classes together. They don't address each other by their first names, only call each other by surnames. In the English version, they are addressed to each other by their first names.
Despite being a relatively new student in Inaba, Yosuke seems to have started up somewhat of a friendship with Chie. She likes him enough to lend him her "Trial of the Dragon" DVD, although her trust may have been displayed. When she discovers that Yosuke cracked her DVD, she punishes him with a kick to the crotch. Yosuke offers to buy Yu food as he's the new kid in town, and Chie tags along as payment for her broken movie. There, they see Yosuke speaking with Saki Konishi. Chie teases him, asking if he's fallen in love with her.
A few days later, Yu, Yosuke, and Chie end up at Junes. They discover the TV world, and explore it together. When Yosuke has to go to the bathroom in the TV world, Chie chides him for wanting to pee in the corner of a room. They escape the TV world with the help of Teddie, but decide to return the next day when Saki is found murdered. Yu and Yosuke enter alone, while Chie stays in Junes and holds onto a rope tied around them. However, the moment they step foot in the TV world the rope loses contact, Chie begins to panic, worrying for her friends. When they return unharmed, she tells them how worried she was.
The next victim of the Midnight Channel is Yukiko Amagi, and the trio set out to save her. They continue to save various other students, welcoming them into the folds of their team. Yosuke and Chie remain particularly close, however, often being paired together if not with their respective best friends (Yu and Yukiko).
Chie mentions that she hates how Yosuke keeps sending her dirty jokes late at night.
During the school festival, Chie does Yosuke's drag makeup.
Persona 4: The Animation[]

Chie and Yosuke hug
After Yu and Yosuke return from the TV World, she shares a hug with Yosuke, until Yosuke angers Chie for making an advance on her.
When Yosuke and Chie partner up to tail Kanji. Chie complains about being hungry, and Yosuke suggests she order delivery. When Chie orders two meals, Yosuke angrily tells her that he didn't want anything. Chie snaps back that both of the meals are for her.
When the group gets to Kanji's dungeon, Yosuke is apprehensive of entering, but Chie drags Yosuke into the dungeon by his ear.
On Yu's last day in Inaba, Chie force feeds Yosuke a spoonful of Yukiko's disgusting curry to get him to shut up.
Persona 4: Golden[]
During a group hangout, Rise suggests that Chie and Yosuke date. Chie immediately says no, with Yosuke remarking how fast she shot that offer down.
On the skiing trip, Chie and Yosuke went snowboarding with each other and complemented each other's skills.
Persona 4: Arena[]
In Yosuke's story, before Yosuke fights Chie, Yosuke is tricked into thinking that Chie wants to eat him, which he initially take as Chie wanting to engage in some sort of "intimate" act. After Yosuke defeats Chie, Chie is forced to stay behind while Yosuke goes on to fight Yukiko and Yu. As Chie gets worried for Yosuke, Yosuke pinches her nose to cheer her up, but she dismisses it as another one of his dumb antics.
Persona 4: Dancing All Night[]
When Yosuke performs his dance to stave off the shadows, Chie seems incredibly impressed. She searches for the right words to explain how she feels about watching his dance. Yosuke teases her, asking if she's "falling" for him. Chie and Yukiko shut him down, and Yosuke explains that he was only joking.
Fanon[]
HanaChie is a relatively popular ship in the Persona fandom, although it pales in comparison to its biggest rivals: SouYo, YukiChie and ShuChie. While there seems to be a fair amount of shiptease for these two, this pairing is a subject of controversy because of the widespread belief that the constant bickering between the two characters would mean that a romantic relationship between them would be unhealthy or toxic. Ironically, their ongoing bickering is also the reason why fans support the pairing, likening their dynamic to that of an old, bickering married couple. There are also many that see Yosuke and Chie as purely platonic friends with a sibling-like relationship.
This pairing currently has over 125 works on AO3 and is the second most written ship of Yosuke Hanamura and Chie Satonaka on the site.
