HanaKane is the slash ship between Hanako and Aoi Akane from the Toilet-bound Hanako-kun fandom.
Canon[]
Hanako and Akane are both among the seven school mysteries of Kamome Academy, with Hanako being Hanako-san of the Toilet and Akane being one of The Clock Keepers. When Hanako met The Clock Keepers, he was a pervert and The Clock Keepers said they never wanted to see him again. When The Clock Keepers cause everyone's time to move forward, Hanako is unable to go to their boundary since The Clock Keepers didn't tell Hanako where their boundary was. Hanako heard that the second clock keeper was hiding as a student going to Kamome Academy. Akane was the second clock keeper, having the ability to stop time.
Hanako possesses Nene to seduce Aoi, who Akane was in love with from a young age. This angers Akane, and he chases Hanako to a rooftop. Akane knocks Hanako out of Nene's body, causing Hanako to comment on how Akane isn't half bad. Hanako knew then that Akane was a supernatural since a normal human wouldn't be able to knock Hanako out of Nene's body. Hanako puts Aoi in danger to make Akane reveal himself. It works, and Akane stops time and reveals himself.
Akane recognizes Hanako and fights him. As Akane is about to punch Hanako, Nene intervenes. Time resumes since Akane can only stop time for five minutes at a time. The group leaves to a different location. Akane assumes that Nene is a victim that Hanako tricked into being his assistant. After learning Nene wasn't tricked, Akane asks what Hanako wants with him. In the process, Akane calls Hanako a "slimy, perverted brat" twice. Outside, the group finds that everyone had turned into old people because of Mirai, the third clock keeper. Hanako and Akane team up temporarily to catch Mirai.
Akane grabs Hanako's arms, telling Nene how he is a murderer and yelling at Hanako. Akane lets go of Hanako's arm and agrees to team up. Hanako says that humans like Akane are his favorite kind.
Fanon[]
HanaKane is a rarepair within its fandom. One possible reason it might not be shipped is because of the age-difference, with Hanako dying at the age of 13 and Akane being 15-16. HanaKane is also overshadowed by more popular ships such as Hananene, Hanakou, Aoikane and Terukane. Though, it can be shipped along ships such as Aoinene. On AO3, there are currently 6+ romantic works and 7+ gen works for the ship.
