HanaTeru is the slash ship between Hanako and Minamoto Teru from the Toilet-bound Hanako-kun fandom.

Canon[]

Yashiro Nene summons Hanako and wishes for her crush to fall in love with her immediately. After learning Nene's crush is Teru, Hanako begins to help Nene, though he cannot make Teru immediately fall in love with her.

Hanako gives Nene a note card and suggests she should give Teru a present, calling it "Operation Present". Nene says she feels confessing her love is too sudden, so she decides to thank him for picking up her pencil case. On Teru's desk, Nene leaves some summer vegetables and a heart-shaped note that reads, "Thank you for the other day." The summer vegetables confuse everyone and turn present turns into an unsolved mystery.

The next plan Hanako helps Nene with is "Operation Button of Love". Hanako makes Teru lose a button and tells Nene to sew another one on for Teru. As Nene is about to offer to do so, another girl notices and causes others to offer their buttons to Teru. Hanako then helps Nene with "Operation Lunch Box" where Nene will use her summer vegetables to make Teru lunch. Hanako says it would be boring to make an ordinary lunch and tells Nene to do a character bento. Upon seeing the lunch Nene prepared, Teru sees how ominous the lunch looks and takes it to the lost and found because he thought someone dropped it.

The last plan Hanako helps with is "Operation Corner of Love" where Nene has to jump out from behind a corner just as Teru is walking past it. Nene jumps out too early and collides with Minamoto Kou, Teru's younger brother, and causes him to fall down the stairs.

While hanging out with Kou, Hanako threatens him with a knife. Teru intervenes and insists that supernaturals are evil. As Teru is about to exorcise Hanako, Kou stops Teru's blade with his bare hands and makes a promise. He promises that he'll make sure Hanako won't cause harm and he'll take full responsibility if he does. Teru does not exorcise Hanako and leaves.

After School Hanako-kun[]

In Day 2, Teru joins Hanako, Kou, Tsuchigomori and Nene in playing the Game of Kings. Hanako is scared of Teru and asks Tsuchigomori to do something. Teru takes a photo of Tsuchigomori and threatens to share the story of a male teacher in a girls' bathroom. Tsuchigomori gives in and lets Teru play. Teru becomes king for a round which scares Hanako, Tsuchigomori and a Mokke. Teru reassures them that he's just there to play the game. He then orders Hanako and Tsuchigomori to fight him to the death. They get Teru to leave.

Fanon[]

HanaTeru is a rarepair within its fandom. One reason for this is that it's overshadowed by more popular ships, namely Hanako's ships with Nene or Teru's younger brother and Teru's ships with Akane and Aoi. It also isn't popular due to the age-gap between the two. There isn't a lot of fan content of HanaTeru. There is barely any fan art of them alone together and there are currently only 12+ works of the pairing on AO3.
