Hapistance is the femslash ship between Hapi and Constance from the Fire Emblem fandom.
Canon[]
Three Houses[]
Hapi and Constance are both from the Ashen Wolves house in Fire Emblem Three houses. In the DLC, they have many interactions and help uncover the Chalice of Beginnings, only to be tricked into a trap by their caretaker Aelfric, who used Yuri to kidnap Constance, Hapi, and Balthus so he could use their blood in a ritual. However, Byleth and the other students come to their aid and together are able to stop Aelfric.
Hapi and Constance both suffer afflictions that greatly hamper their mood and how they are able to interact with others. Constance suffers severe mood swings while in direct sunlight causing her to go from a haughty, determined woman to a self-deprecating shrinking violet. Hapi was experiments on at a young age and is now cursed to summon monsters when she sighs, causing her to suppress her emotions to prevent this. Despite this, Hapi's support conversations with Constance are unique in that she does not mention or bemoan her curse during them. In their C support Constance tries to scold Hapi for eating while walking but Hapi is unfazed and shares her treats with Constance. Upon eating some, Constance agrees that there are other forms dinning to be enjoyed. In their B support, Constance asks Hapi to share some coffee with her, an expensive import to Fódlan, to show her gratitude for the all the food Hapi has shared with her. At the end of their A support, Constance defends Hapi to a group of passing nobles that insult her and reassures Hapi that she thinks of her as a dear friend and excepts Hapi to keep her company "well into [her] dotage."
In their paired ending they travelled across Fódlan for many years helping rebuilding before returning to Garreg Mach. They are said to have "remained lifelong friends, steadfast through thick and thin forever after."
Three Hopes[]
During Scarlet Blaze and Golden Wildfire Constance and Hapi are together during together during the story when they become recruitable.
In their support conversation Constance and Hapi reminisces about their days at Abyss, with Constance embellishes a memory of when they first left together, claiming that Hapi told her she could be utterly lonesome without Constance and that it would only be a matter of time before she sighed, thus is was necessary they stay together to avoid disaster. Hapi does not remember the conversation but shrugs it off and agrees. When Constance wonders if Hapi would want return to Abyss, Hapi says no, as she is treated better among their current commands thanks to them not knowing about her power, and she wants to be with around Constance. Hapi then tease Constance, asking if she could get lovely without, which Constance finally admitting she would. They continue their back and forth, both admitting they only agreed to their current guard duty because they knew the other would be their partner for it.
- Hapi – “Plus, you’re here. It’s like you said, I’d get lonely without my Coco. What about you? Would you be lonely without me?”
- Constance – “OK, fine! I would! I would be positively despondent without you here!”
- Hapi – “There you go. That wasn’t so hard, was it? I’m glad you finally admitted it.”
Fanon[]
Constance/Hapi were shipped immediately after the Ashen Wolves DLC was released thanks to their interactions and support conversations. Fans appreciate their playful dynamic and fanworks often feature the pair sharing meals and treats together since it was the common theme of their support. Their interactions during Three Hopes helped win over many new fans who were otherwise neutral toward the ship as they stay with each other and become recruitable at the same time during two of the three routes.
Hapistance is the most popular ship for each of the involved characters on AO3. Its shipping week goes from June 30th to July 6th, starting in 2020.
