Haruka and Michiru are in a romantic relationship. Although the anime was not graphic, there were several hints given, especially during the Stars season, that Haruka and Michiru had a physical relationship. In the original English dub, however, Amara (Haruka) and Michelle (Michiru) were changed to be cousins in order to avoid controversy surrounding homosexuality. Viz Media announced that Haruka and Michiru's relationship would remain intact in the new remastered English dub.
In the manga, Haruka moved in with Michiru to raise baby Hotaru after she was reborn at the end of the Infinity arc, and they formed an adopted family.
They also moved in together in the Stars season of the anime.
HaruMichi is not only one of the most popular ships in the Sailor Moon franchise, but also one of the most popular femslash ships within the anime/manga fandom.
- Haruka and Michiru were made cousins and not lovers in the original Sailor Moon English dub, this made viewers uncomfortable. They would flirt with eachother and the scenes would be uncut. This was later changed in the 2016 re-dubbing of the anime.
- In the 90s, during the first broadcast of this show in the West, this ship was notorious due to the large number of its haters who spread false information that HaruMichi is not a canon. In particular, fanfics were popular, where Haruka turns out to be a toxic lesbian predator or vice versa, a real male. Fortunately, in the end this company ended when at one of the events in the USA, the author directly confirmed that the two girls are a romantic couple.
