HimeShino is the friend ship between Gyomei Himejima and Shinobu Kocho from the Demon Slayer fandom.
Canon[]
First Meeting[]
Gyomei Himejima and Shinobu Kochō first met when Shinobu and Kanae's family were attacked by demons, Gyomei, who's profession was still a Demon Slayer at the time, Gyomei, intervened just in time, saving both sisters from further harm. Despite the rest of their family, that being their parents, passing away, Shinobu and Kanae managed to survive, thanks to Gyomei's assistance. Shinobu held a massive respect for him after he saved her and her late sister's life. This is revealed in the 143rd chapter, where Shinobu reflects on her childhood.
Hashira Introduction[]
In the anime and currently, the two were both affiliated with the Demon Slayer Corps with Shinobu being the Insect Hashira and Gyomei being the Stone Hashira. The two are seen during the Hashira Introduction when Tanjiro Kamado is brought to the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters, where he is put on trial for violating Corps rules and protecting a demon, his sister, Nezuko Kamado.
Tanjiro lay there, bewildered by his surroundings and unfamiliar with the term “hashira.” Shinobu not only provided him with context but also explained his purpose there. As she began to inquire about his alleged crime, the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku, interjected. With the assistance of a kakushi, Tanjiro finally grasped the significance of a hashira, only to be met with Gyomei's declaration of execution, echoed by Kyojuro and Tengen. Giyu Tomioka, who had remained silent until then, disclosed the tragic fate of Tanjiro and Nezuko's family, prompting Gyomei to advocate for Nezuko's death for her supposed “liberation”. Amidst the escalating tension, Sanemi Shinazugawa caused a disturbance, prompting Shinobu to intervene and urge him to maintain composure.
When Kagaya Ubuyashiki eventually revealed himself, he asserted that Tanjiro and his sister would not be killed. In response, Gyomei voiced his dissent, despite understanding Ubuyashiki's intentions. Shinobu, in contrast, remained silent, likely out of respect for Ubuyashiki's authority.
Official Fanbook[]
In the Official Fanbook 2, there's a segment about how the hashiras view each other. On Gyomei's profile, he notes Shinobu's delicate nature, expressing concern that she may overwork herself and adding that she seems to enjoy speaking with Giyu Tomioka. On Shinobu's profile, she simply states “I respect him from the bottom of my heart.” This demonstrates her profound appreciation for him, particularly following his rescue of her during her family's attack.
Light Novel ― Kimetsu no Yaiba: One-Winged Butterfly[]
In the first chapter, which is named after the novel title, One-Winged Butterfly, it takes place following the death of Shinobu and Kanae's parents. The two sisters return to Gyomei in order to express their thankfulness for him saving their lives. Instead of having the opportunity of living their lives peacefully, the two decide to become Demon Slayers, urging Gyomei to train them in order to do so. Gyomei hesitates at the notion of introducing the two into the realm of demon-slaying, so he instead offers them a proposition: if the girls can move a boulder, he'll contemplate introducing them to cultivators, potentially sealing their fate in the process. Fanon[]
The pairing is rather rare and generally frowned upon when considered romantically, primarily because their initial interaction remains unanimated since it occurred in Chapter 143, and critics often cite the age Gyomei was (since he was in his late teenage years, almost reaching his 20s) when first meeting Shinbou, while Shinobu was still an child. The ages they were when they first met is a reason that many people dislike the ship in a romantic sense. However, platonically, the duo garners a significant liking among fans. Gyomei saving Shinobu's life, coupled with her canonical gratitude, inspires many to envision them as having a father-daughter like bond. This sentiment is further fueled by Shinobu's reminding Gyomei of the children from his former temple. Occasionally, the pairing is joined by Kanae Kocho, since Gyomei saved her life in the process of saving Shinobu's, and or Genya Shinazugawa, whom he trained.
