Hinawa & Lucas is the family ship between Hinawa and Lucas from the EarthBound fandom.

Canon[]

Lucas is regarded by most of the Tazmily villagers as having been coddled by his mom.

On the last day of their visit to Alec's log house, Lucas is the last one to wake up. He comes downstairs to see his mom. When he tries to go outside, Hinawa tells him to put his clothes on first. If he says "no", she tells him he can stay inside in his pajamas for the rest of his life. If Lucas dashes into Hinawa before he leaves, she playfully says "Ow! Ow! I surrender!" and gives him some Nut Bread. After playing outside for a while, Hinawa calls Lucas and Claus back inside to eat lunch (the player's "favorite food" named at the beginning of the game) and prepare for their journey back home. She announces that she made Omelets, which excites both boys since it's their favorite food. Before they leave, Hinawa sends a letter by carrier pigeon to Flint, in which she writes that while Lucas is still a bit coddled, neither he nor Claus have gotten tired of playing there.

On their hike back through the Sunshine Forest, they are attacked by a Drago altered by technology. Hinawa protects her sons, allowing them to escape, but she is killed by the Drago. Lucas is stricken with grief from his mom's death The next day at Hinawa's grave, Lucas is saddened that he can't even be punished by her anymore, because she's completely gone now, and wishes it wasn't like this.

After Lucas falls from the helicopter after escaping from the crumbling Thunder Tower, he wakes up in a field of sunflowers. Hinawa's spirit looks at him, and guides him by walking to the left. Lucas finally reaches the cliff, where Hinawa stands off it mid-air. Lucas jumps in an attempt to reach her, and falls into a pile of hay that Alec put out. Alec comments that Hinawa came to him in a dream and told him to put the hay out. Hinawa was able to save her son this way.

Post-time skip, Lucas can visit Hinawa's grave, and remembers a time when she was still alive with him.

Fanon[]

Hinawa is not present for much of MOTHER 3, and Lucas rarely speaks in it, so there is not a lot of their relationship that is seen on-screen. However, with the way Hinawa is characterized and Lucas's few memories that are shown, it's clear that they had a very good relationship. On Tanetane Island, Hinawa is the only person close to Lucas that he does not see hallucinations of, suggesting he saw her in such a way that he thought she had no flaws. Some think Lucas would have been closer to Hinawa than Flint; one reason being that he would have been less willing to get dirty outside, so Hinawa would teach him to do chores inside, and he would take on her skills in things such as cooking and knitting clothes, and possibly sing to him. Also, some believe that Hinawa would seldom (if at all) get upset or punish Lucas for any mistakes he makes, instead teaching and gently guiding him to do better next time - effectively coddling him in the long run, unlike how she may for Claus.

As Hinawa is associated with sunflowers, Lucas is often drawn with sunflowers in fanart in remembrance - or with Hinawa directly present, sometimes including Claus.

Due to the open-ended nature of MOTHER 3's ending, many people believe that Hinawa (and by extension, her oldest son, Claus) were revived after Lucas pulled the final Needle, effectively giving him (and father Flint) a "happy ending" in the sense that she is back with them in their life - this has not been confirmed, however.
