Hinawari is the het ship between Akane Owari and Hajime Hinata from the Danganronpa fandom.
Canon[]
Akane and Hajime both spend time as members of the Ultimate Despair. While Akane is a student at Hope's Peak Academy, Hajime as a student in the Reserve Course. As such, they do not share any significant interactions in the Danganronpa 3 anime prior to Hajime's transformation into Izuru Kamakura. At some point, they are both captured by the Future Foundation. They, along with the other Ultimate Despairs, are placed into the Neo-World Program for rehabilitation.
Akane and Hajime do not interact often in the Neo-World Program. In fact, Akane can never seem to remember his name; she is seen calling him "Hank", "Harvey", and "Hector". During the investigation of Mahiru's murder, Akane helps Hajime investigate the window in the beach house bathroom. She climbs on his shoulders to reach the window, and makes frequent reference to Hajime viewing her panties. He insists that he did not do so, and tells Akane to not spread that around. When Akane (somewhat helpfully) suggests that a ninja could have scaled the wall and escaped out the window, Hajime waves off her suggestion. This offends her, and she says she regrets sharing her "wisdom" with him.
At the end of the Neo-World Program, Hajime is able to motivate Akane into leaving the game.
Hajime and Akane do not share any interactions in the non-canonical Ultimate Talent Development Plan or Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp.
Free Time Events[]
Hajime and Akane get to know each other better over the course of Akane's "Free Time Events". Akane speaks to Hajime about her talent, and reveals that she only really does gymnastics for the money. Throughout the course of their conversations, Hajime comes to learn that Akane grew up in a bad neighbourhood. He also learns about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother's boyfriends. He seems to worry deeply for Akane and her troubled past.
Fanon[]
Hinawari is considered a rarepair in the fandom. While each game's respective protagonist is easily shippable due to Free Time Events and Bonus Mode dates, Hajime and Akane's general lack of interaction throughout the main story has made this a ship that isn't often considered. Even in the context of writing about the five survivors of the Killing Game, Akane is more often shipped with Sonia Nevermind.
Fans of this ship, however, enjoy the dynamic between the two characters that is presented in the Free Time Events. They think that Hajime cares for Akane, and that he can help her overcome the trauma of her past. Some also like their slightly differing personalities, with Hajime being more cynical and Akane being happy-go-lucky.
There are currently over 25 works for this ship on AO3.
