And while they adventure in the route that seems like a safari, Steven also gifts her a mega stone, saying that he likes her so much.
Later, Hoenn enters in a cataclismic scenario, and Steven Stone calls May to help him to solve the issue. He invites her to his house, and let her stay ther until she is ready to fight the villains. When everything is over, May fights against the champion who she discovers that is nothing else than Steven himself. She defeats him and becomes the champion herself, and he is glad and congratulates her.
In post game evens in the Coordinator events, the trainer Wallace comments that his Steven "must be gnashing his teeth over missing today's Contest Spectacular" that May was participating.

Fanon[]
Hoennchampionshipping is one of the most popular shippings of Pokemon games. It's the most popular ship for May from the games, and alternates with Originshipping between first or second most popular ship for Steven Stone.
Fanfictions and headcanons often explore May's reaction upon seeing his letter saying he left, and their reencounter after his journey. Other fictions also explore a new adventure of them together in a new region. Considering the role playing aspect of Pokemon games, there's no comfirmed relationship for the playable character and most npcs, so the relationships and events during the adventure are up to the player's imagination, filling the blanks of the story. The ship is only possible if May is chosen as the protagonist, otherwise Brendan will fulfil her role if the male playable character is chosen.
