HonoMaki is the femslash ship between Honoka Kosaka and Maki Nishikino from the Love Live! fandom.

School Idol Project

In Episode 1, after being rejected from starting a School Idol Club, Honoka finds Maki singing and playing a piano version of the song "Aishteru Banzai". Honoka watches in awe, commenting on how beautiful Maki's voice is. Honoka claps from behind the glass door separating the hall and the music room, bursting into the room and telling her how amazing her performance was. Maki denies it and says she's nothing special, but Honoka tells her she's great and singing and piano as well as being cute like an idol. Maki blushes and gets up, and Honoka asks if she wants to try being a school idol. Maki is slightly taken aback, and asks what's with Honoka.

In Episode 2, Honoka asks Rin and Hanayo where Maki is. They tell her she's in the music room. Rin also notes she isn't very social, and Honoka heads to the Music room. After watching Maki play another song, Honoka claps behind the glass door just like she did last time. Maki asks her what she wants and Honoka asks her if she wants to be a school idol, again. Maki tells her she doesn't listen to pop music and prefers classical and jazz. Honoka asks her why and Maki tells her pop music lacks substance. Honoka agrees, much to Maki's surprise. She tells her she first wanted to party and have fun singing, but it's actually hard work.

She then asks Maki if she can do push-ups, which confuses Maki a lot, but she still does it anyway to prove she can. Honoka is impressed that she can do push-ups, even better than her, but asks her to do some while smiling. Maki then does a few more, but visibly struggles. Honoka tells her that being an idol is actually pretty hard. Maki is confused and asks her what she's talking about. Honoka then asks her to read her lyrics, which Maki rejects at first. Honoka asks her again, saying it won't hurt. Honoka tells Maki she loves her voice, and that she wants her to compose her music because she was moved by her playing piano. She tells her they train at the local shrine everyday, so she can drop by if she'd like.

Maki comes up to the shrine, wherein Nozomi tells her to not give up on her dreams. After that, Yukiho gives Honoka a cd labeled "muse". It turns out the cd is a song made by Maki, named "Start dash". Honoka, Kotori and Umi are moved by this song and start practicing, while Maki looks off into the distance—satisfied with the result.

In Episode 3, Honoka, Kotori and Umi are seen practicing at the shrine. Honoka sees Maki and shouts her name, which Maki then asks her not to say so loudly because it's embarrassing. Honoka shows Maki the version of song her song she, Kotori and Umi sang. Maki asks why she should listen to it, which Honoka responds to by saying it's because Maki composed it for them. Maki tries to deny it, but Honoka jumps on her. She makes a menacing face while sneakily putting an earbud in Maki's ear to listen. In the end of the episode, Maki peeks into the the auditorium to watch Honoka, Kotori and Umi preform.

Fanon

HonoMaki is a relatively popular ship within the Love Live! fandom, competing only with NicoMaki, RinMaki and Honoka with Umi, Kotori or both. The ship sailed due to their interactions dating back to the first episode School Idol Project and Honoka helping Maki come out of her shell. Some fans compare it to ChikaRiko, due to the similarity in their general aesthetics as well as the scene in which they met. The two could be considered opposites attract as, as while Maki is introverted and often does what she's told to do, while Honoka is outgoing and always pushes for what she believes in.
