Hyapollo is the slash ship between Hyacinthus and Apollo from Greek Mythology.
Canon[]
Hyacinthus was a Spartan prince, young, handsome and athletic, who caught the attention of sun god Apollo. Apollo fell deeply in love with him as soon as he saw him. To be with him, Apollo reportedly gave up all of his godly possessions, luckily, Hyacinthus accepted his love. One day, the two decided to have a friendly competition of throwing the discus. When Apollo wanted to prove his skill by throwing so fast that it made a cut in the clouds, Hyacinthus ran after the discus to catch it. However, the speed at which the discus flew was so great that when it hit Hyacinthus, it collided with his skull and killed him instantly. Apollo held the corpse of his lover, weeping for him and hoping that he could miraculously restore him with his medicine skills. However, even Apollo couldn't do anything to save Hyacinthus. So instead, Apollo turned his lover's corpse into a type of flower which he named "hyacinths" to remember him by. Ovid's telling of the story ends with Apollo's tears leaving marks on on the flower's petals and the Spartan people holding an annual festival to honor Hyacinthus.
Other versions of the story absolve Apollo of having any part in Hyacinthus' death, one version has Hyacinthus attempt to outdo Apollo's throw, with the discus bouncing back and hitting Hyacinthus, thus he was killed by his own hubris. Another variant has a love triangle between the two and the wind god Zephyrus, who had also made eyes for Hyacinthus. However, when seeing how close the two were, Zephyrus grew incredibly jealous and believed that Apollo did not deserve to be with Hyacinthus, thus Zephyrus deliberately caused the discus to fly towards the prince's head. Another ending for the story added by the Spartans actually have Apollo succeed in bringing Hyacinthus back to life by deifing him and living with him on Olympus.
Camp Half-Blood Chronicles[]
In The Heroes of Olympus, the fourth book The House of Hades has Jason and Nico run into Zephyrus, currently cursed to be stuck in his Roman identity as Favonius, who mentions how jealous he was of Apollo and Hyacinthus' relationship as a bit of foreshadowing to same-sex attraction becoming a major theme in the story later.
Throughout the Trials of Apollo series, Apollo is frequently reminded of his brief time with Hyacinthus, revealing that being unable to prevent his death is something that he regrets to this day. He also reveals that Hyacinthus and Daphne were his two favorite lovers.
Blood of Zeus[]
This series has Hyacinthus as an incidental character and goes with the version that ends with Hyacinthus becoming a god after his death. A large scar is visible as a reminder of the incident of the discus hitting him. Because he was Apollo's lover, he joins Apollo on Zeus' side of the civil war.
Fanon[]
Though it ultimately ends in tragedy, the romance between Apollo and Hyacinthus is one of the most important stories in Greek Mythology for the LGBT community, being cited as one of the primary reasons why Apollo is recognized as the patron god of same-sex love.
