HyuHun is the het ship between Cho Hyun-ju and Seong Gi-hun from the Squid Game fandom.
Canon[]
The two met each other during the killing game and don't interact often. Gi-hun came back with the mission to end the games, while Hyun-ju came to play the games to get enough money for her surgery. After waking up, Gi-hun saw Hyun-ju ask the guards on how they can trust them after they've been kidnapped by them. Their first true interaction was during Red Light, Green Light.
During Red Light Green Light, Hyun-ju is seen to be listening to Gi-hun when he is telling players what to do, as he tells them he played these games before. Hyun-ju takes his word into account as she follows his directions. With 30 seconds on the clock, Gi-hun sees Player 444 who was shot in the leg, instead of a spot that could actually kill him. Even though Gi-hun has already crossed the line he goes back out to help him. He tells him to stand up when he tells him to, which he does and holds him up. However, with limited time and the doll saying to stop moving, they are about to fall as Hyun-ju saves them by coming up to hold up the man as well. Hyun-ju and Gi-hun share a glance and start helping the man by moving with him. They successfully get him over the line, however he still gets shot despite him crossing the line.
During Mingle, they are sometimes seen standing near each other. In the first round when the amount of players needed is announced to be ten, Gi-hun looks at Hyun-ju and grabs her arm to ask how many players does her team have. She answers four and Gi-hun answers back saying that they have five. They get interrupted by a different team saying that they have enough to make ten, but they change their minds when another team comes up to them with 5. After that, Gi-hun's and Hyun-ju's teams get together. As they need a last player for their team, Hyun-ju picks Seon-nyeo and grabs her as the two teams get into a room.
The two are also in on the rebellion, as Hyun-ju chooses to volunteer and joins Gi-hun's plan. While in the dorms, Hyun-ju decides to show everyone the basics of an MP5 and how to use it. Following Gi-hun's direction, the players get going to the control room. After some shooting and moving further in the building, Gi-hun decides to go with Jung-bae to the control room leaving the rest behind them. This would be the last time that Hyun-ju and Gi-hun see each other.
Fanon[]
HyuHun is a rarepair as the two don't interact quite often in canon and most people see them as friends or just ship them platonically. Although, that doesn't stop people from seeing potential between the two because fans think they would've been great for each other, whether as friends or lovers, had they met outside the games. People like their dynamic from the short amount of interactions the two had, because Hyun-ju actually took the time to listen to Gi-hun during Red Light, Green Light and Gi-hun's first instinct was to grab Hyun-ju's arm to ask to team up in Mingle. Some people also ship the two due to the sole fact of them being shipped with too many characters that they practically have their own harems.
Both can also be described to have a protective and caring nature of others, as Hyun-ju cared about Young-mi and helped her when she could, while Gi-hun was protective over Sae-byeok and cared about the people around him. This makes them compatible and even more of a reason to ship the two.
However, people also like to point out that Gi-hun has a history of not judging others as he cares about other people and letting them in into his circle, as evident by letting the girls join his team during Tug of War. Due to this, people also like to imagine that he would accept Hyun-ju's transition and not judge her for it. Another detail that people like to point out is that it was Hyun-ju who practically saved Gi-hun's life in Red Light, Green Light when he was trying to help player 444 out. Had she not stepped in, Gi-hun would've most likely died with the man who was shot in the leg. People like to compare this scene to Ali saving Gi-hun in Season 1 because if both hadn't stepped in, Gi-hun most likely wouldn't have enough time to make it.
It is also a rarepair due to both characters having more popular ships with others, Hyunmi or Hyunseok for Hyun-ju and take any character from Gihun's Harem for Gi-hun. The only known fic that features the ship is this one but it only has them hooking up.
