HyunSales is the het ship between Cho Hyun-ju and The Salesman from the Squid Game fandom.

Canon

Between August and September 2024, the Salesman began recruiting players for either the 36th or 37th Squid Game. During this time, he presumably approached Cho Hyun-ju, along with many other players, inviting them to play multiple rounds of ddakji with him, where the winner would receive ₩100,000.

After ddakji, the salesman offered them a spot in the Squid Game without revealing its true nature and handed them a business card with a phone number. The recipient may have been asked for their name and date of birth and given a password along with a meeting time. They was then sedated with gas, knocked unconscious by the guards, and transported to the island where the games were held. They were than stripped of their belongings and their clothes, save for their undergarments, and placed player uniforms. They were then put in their respective beds.

After waking up in the Squid Game dormitory and seeing the guards enter, Hyun-ju is one of many players who question the staff. When the Manager played footage showing the debts and names of some players, as well as scenes of them being slapped by the Salesman after losing at ddakji, it included a scene a brief glimpse of her being slapped by him in some unknown place that looked like the woods (or a park).

Fanon

This ship is somewhat known through some jokes on TikTok, such as this video by a Tiktok user @luv.k.dramass mentions about Hyun-ju being slapped by the Salesman in the woods instead of on the subway like other players, and it's also unclear how the Salesman managed to find her in the woods and what they were "doing" there besides playing ddakji. While some people believe that the Salesman simply has known extensive information about all players, allowing his to track and approach them to join the game (but it is still unclear whether it was him or another the Salesman/the Recruiter, as he usually approaches players on the subway). Hyun-ju may be trying to escape to Thailand because she was not accepted by her family and friends before she transitioned, but due to a chance encounter with the Salesman, she ended up being drawn into the game.

Because she appears to be in the woods with a bob cut, so some people joke that she resembles the character Snow White in the Snow White Live-action movie (2025) and the Salesman could be a "prince" visiting her. And a few would also joke on how mad they got seeing the Salesman even slap her alongside Geum-ja and Young-mi.

Because this is a rarepair, while there are many more popular ships like SalesHun or Juncruiter (this is also a rarepair, but at least it's somewhat more popular) for the Salesman and Hyunmi or Hyunseok for Hyun-ju. There's only one fic that has a small connection to them, but it is not a ship (also be mindful when reading this fic, as it contains sexual content).

• Besides her, in Season 1 - episode 1 "Red Light, Green Light", there is a scene where the Manager reveals the debts and names of other players. Cho Sang-woo also gets slapped somewhere that looks like the woods. In Season 2 - episode 7 "Friend or Foe", Thanos tells Min-su in the bathroom that he was once approached by a man (implying the Salesman) on a bridge who gave him a business card.
• They have a few small similarities, such as being skilled with guns, which was revealed after they talked about themselves. Hyun-ju was a sergeant in the Republic of Korea Army Special Forces, while the Salesman was a Soldier in the Squid Game organization. Both are among the characters who have slapped others but Hyun-ju only slapped Seon-nyeo to help her calm down, whereas the Salesman did it to bait players into participating.
