Hyunseok is the het ship between Cho Hyun-ju and Park Gyeong-seok from the Squid Game fandom.

Canon[]

Cho Hyun-ju and Park Gyeong-seok meet each other at a remote island where they are both participating in mysterious survival games that promise them a big prize that can help them get a big sum of money. The both of them interact for the first time during the third game, Mingle.

In this game, all the players step on a platform in the center of the arena. Once the game begins, the platform will start to spin around. Shortly after, a number will be called out, and the players must form a group that matches this number, enter one of the surrounding cells, and close the door within 30 seconds, or be eliminated. So far, Hyun-ju is able to stick with the group she's formed throughout the days spent there. But at one particular moment, when the name called out was three, she instantly partnered with Young-mi, a person from her group that she was closest to, as the other members of her team separate and anxiously hope for the best (for them to not die).

When the time passes, and the players can go back to the platform, Hyun-ju and Young-mi happily run to hug the other members of her team, reuniting at last. Geuma-ja asks the two of them if anything happened, to check if they're hurt, as the last time they separated, they were desperate to find a third member. In that moment, Gyeong-seok, who was walking towards them, arrives and as he stares at Hyun-ju, she says that he saved their lives. Young-mi mentions that he came at the right time to save them, like a prince. Geuma-ja thanks him profusely, but Gyeong-seok humbly says that it was Hyun-ju and Young-mi who saved his life.

Later on, Young-mi ends up tragically dying during one of the rounds, and the next number called out ends up being two. Hyun-ju is stuck in place, unable to move, with all the chaos around her as people scramble to find a partner. And right on time, Gyeong-seok comes through to save her, taking her by the hand to one of the cells. Both of them end up surviving the game, but totally defeated by the losses of people who they came to become friends with, especially in Hyun-ju's case.

After this event, Gyeong-seok joins Hyun-ju's team, as he gets closer to them after what they went through. So much so, that they end up sticking together throughout the whole night when players start eliminating one another for votes. And when Gi-hun implements his plan to take down the guard and reach the higher ups, Hyun-ju sticks close by to Gyeong-seok, protecting him with her weaponry skills. She even takes the time to explain how to handle the weapons, to the other players who decide to join Gi-hun in his plan, and Gyeong-seok is so impressed by her knowledge that he asks her about how she learned it all, so Hyun-ju tells him that she used to be a sergeant in the Special Forces Units.

As they fight against the guards, and they run out of ammunition, Hyun-ju sends out one of the players, Dae-ho, volunteers to go look for more. However, when he doesn't come back with it, and they are desperate as the guards keep shooting them, Hyun-ju says she will go herself. So Gyeong-seok immediately asserts he will cover her from the guards to ensure she arrives there safely.
