- (Her voice is so delicate and gentle... She knows exactly how to express herself through song. I really wish I could sing like that too...)
- —Ichika in Musical Twilight Parade Episode 6 "A Song to Help You Smile"
Ichinene is the femslash ship between Ichika Hoshino and Nene Kusanagi from the Project SEKAI fandom.
Canon[]
Ichika and Nene are both second-year high school students as well as friends. While Nene attends Kamiyama High School, Ichika goes to Miyamasuzaka Girls Academy. They share a great passion in music, as Nene has always loved musicals and dreams of starring in big productions, and aside from being Leo/need's vocalist, Ichika has loved Hatsune Miku's songs and sung them ever since she was young. They're both also more reserved when compared to their groupmates, and also refer to each with their last names and honorifics ("Kusanagi-san" and "Hoshino-san" respectively).
Musical Parade Twilight[]
Tsukasa invites the Leo/need members to take a break by coming over to have fun at Phoenix Wonderland and watch one of Wonderlands x Showtime's shows. After Leo/need's band practice, Ichika is walking home while wondering how she could improve like Shiho, as she wants to keep up with her. Upon hearing Nene sing at the park, Ichika is left in a stunned state, thinking how good Nene sounds and how she wishes she could sing like Nene. When Ichika tries calling out to her, Nene runs off in panic and Ichika is left alone. The scene ends with Ichika telling herself that she hopes she'll see Nene again.
When Tsukasa tries introducing his troupe members to the Leo/need members, he is shocked to find out they all know Emu, as she attends the same school. Meanwhile Ichika notices Nene and thinks she should ask her for tips on singing. Ichika greets her and Nene hides behind Tsukasa out of shyness. The two groups then agree to visit attractions together. While heading towards the Dreamland, as the groups talk about their memories of Phoenix Wonderland, Nene and Rui mention their fondest memories of the park come from their performances, and Ichika suggests that they all should make memories together. Later as Ichika and the others watch Wonderlands x Showtime perform, she becomes even more determined to ask Nene for help.
In the final chapter of the event, Ichika claims she left something at the Wonder Stage and goes back to talk to Nene. Nene is surprised to see her again, and Ichika mentions how she isn't doing as well as she wants to, and that she wants to get better for everyone's sake. Ichika then praises Nene's singing, telling her she was touched upon hearing her and then asks if Nene could teach her. Nene is moved about the revelation, and after a small moment of hesitation, she agrees to Ichika's request and tells her not to be so formal and stiff around as they're the same age. After Ichika leaves, Nene feels nervous again but Rin assures she'll be fine.
In Rui's "Beastly Madness" card's second side story, Wonderlands x Showtime is about to rehearse in the Wonderland SEKAI, before Rui asks why Nene's sighing so heavily. When Nene mentions Ichika, Emu asks if they're friends now, and Nene mentions she forgot to exchange contact info with her. When Tsukasa mentions Ichika most likely didn't remember to ask because she's not as outgoing as well and how tragic it would be if their friendship ended there, Emu exclaims she'll talk to Ichika next day. Nene stops her, saying it's sort of her fault so she'll make sure to do things right, before Rui assures her that Ichika will most likely reach out to Nene sooner or later as she's the one who asked for Nene's help. Rin calls out to Nene who leaves the scene, and Rui suggests to the other two that they should cancel their rehearsal tomorrow so Ichika and Nene can meet. Next day after school, Rui chuckles while mentioning he hadn't expected Rin to suggest her to go and talk with Ichika. Rui, Tsukasa and Emu then secretly watch the events unfold while smiling, and Rui especially thinks how happy he is for Nene.
Resonating with you[]
In Ichika's "My feelings, Your Heart" second card story, Ichika asked Nene to meet up in front of Kamiyama High School's gate. Nene thanked Ichika for waiting for her as she was late due to an activity that took longer than what she was expecting. Ichika then told Nene that she and her band are going to go pro, Nene was shocked at first but she's happy for them. Ichika says that she's indebted to Nene, Nene has helped Ichika realized that she was lacking self-confidence, and her words has motivate her to find the moment where she would playing music the most. That moment for her was when Leo/need played together on stage and the audience had received their song and performance. After hearing that, Nene states that she thinks Ichika doesn't need her help anymore, but Ichika declines this, saying that she still wants to get better and really enjoyed singing with Nene. Ichika asked Nene if they could still practice again and Nene says "sure" because she also enjoys singing with Ichika too. Ichika thanked Nene and she bids her farewell.

One Small Trip Before a Big Journey[]
In Nene's "Gentle Encouragement From Afar" card's first side story, while watching Emu happily explain her plans for the first-years' Yokohama trip, Nene thinks back on her phone call with Ichika after Leo/need's one-man live. Enchanted by their concert, Nene calls Ichika after getting home and telling how much she enjoyed watching her band perform. Nene then apologized for suddenly rambling on and Ichika insists it's fine and encourages Nene to keep working hard as well.
In the second side story, Nene practices for the 30th Anniversary Show at the park while waiting for Ichika to arrive. After acting out a scene, she thinks to herself how she fully can't be satisfied with her performance, how Ichika's singing prowess has been improving, and how she feels their dynamic has somewhat changed (that Nene is learning from Ichika rather than the other way around). Ichika arrives and thanks Nene for finding time to meet up despite her being so busy with the 30th Anniversary Show. Nene insists it's alright and that she was also looking forward to practicing with Ichika. She then proceeds to ask Ichika about the first-years' Yokohama trip, and when Nene mentions that Emu gave her and everyone else in Phoenix Wonderland a bunch of souvenirs, Ichika surprises Nene by giving her a keychain with a little blue bird on it. Ichika explains her reason for picking it, Nene thanks her saying she loves it, and then Ichika reveals that she also has a matching keychain, and Nene thanks her for putting so much thought into it. Nene puts the keychain on her bag and Ichika says she'll always be cheering for Nene, leading to them starting their practice session.

Fanon[]
Ichinene is not a very popular ship in the fandom at the moment, though it’s not a rarepair in both the Western and Eastern fandoms. It sailed as a result of their interactions and how interested the normally cool Ichika was in Nene during Musical Parade Twilight. The ship gained a bit of boost in popularity in 2022 after Nene's Valentine's dialogue, where she mentioned she wanted to give Valentine's chocolate to Ichika but not knowing the proper way to do it due to her shyness.
Ship Weeks[]
The first Ichinene Week was held on July 31-August 6, 2023, under the ichineneweek2023 hashtag on Twitter.
